BAB IV PEMBAHASAN A. Gambaran Umum Kraton Yogyakarta 1
BAB IV PEMBAHASAN A. Gambaran Umum Kraton Yogyakarta 1. -

Legal Reforms for Improving the Freedom of the Press in Indonesia1
80 Journal of Southeast Asian Human Rights, Vol. 1 No. 1 June 2017. pp. 80-108 © University of Jember & Indonesian Consortium for Human Rights Lecturers Legal Reforms for Improving the Freedom of the Press in Indonesia1 Herlambang P. Wiratraman Faculty of Law Universitas Airlangga Abstract The political transition from Suharto’s authoritarian regime has been marked by significant decentralization which has seriously threatened journalism in Indonesia. Extra-judicial killings, physical violence, the criminalization of certain types of journalism, and a lack of support within the judiciary, have created a dangerous atmosphere for members of the press and have impeded the journalistic process. Under this decentralized model, violence against journalists is now very often perpetrated by members of regional and local political organizations as opposed to agents working on behalf of the national government. Unfortunately, law enforcement has proven ineffective in protecting journalist and the legal system offers little recourse in cases where violence has occurred. In fact, the courts themselves have been used as a tool to censor the media, silence opposition, and intimidate members of the press. The research presented in this paper shows that it is those media institutions which operate under a standard of journalistic professionalism and have attempted to produce honest, unbiased news, which are most often targeted by unjust lawsuits and criminal arraignments. This article also shows a new configuration of political imperium which combines of free press, dominant ownership over media, and the context of illiberal democracy which shapes press freedom in the country. Keywords: Indonesia, Freedom of the Press, and Human Rights I. -

Press Freedom, Law and Politics in Indonesia Def.Indd
Cover Page The handle http://hdl.handle.net/1887/30106 holds various files of this Leiden University dissertation. Author: Wiratraman, Herlambang Perdana Title: Press freedom, law and politics in Indonesia : a socio-legal study Issue Date: 2014-12-11 4 Press Freedom from the Early New Order to the SBY Administration 4.1. Introduction The demise of Guided Democracy was dramatic in all respects and the situ- ation of press freedom was no exception. During the backlash that followed the aborted coup of 30 September 1965, 46 of Indonesia’s 163 remaining newspapers were banned indefinitely because of their presumed associa- tion with, or sympathy for, the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) and its allies. Left-wing journalists were expelled from the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) and the national news agency Antara. Thirty percent of all editorial staff was dismissed. As Hill (1995: 34-35) put it, “the arrests and killing of communist and sympathizing journalists in 1965-66, carried out against a background of large-scale massacres in the country side, cast a very long shadow over the press for a subsequent decade.” Initially, the unstable and chaotic political situation led to strong attacks on the press, but when the New Order took form the situation gradually changed. This chapter starts where the previous chapter stopped. It describes and analyses from a rule of law perspective how press freedom has been shaped and implemented during the periods of the New Order and Refor- masi, looking at legislation and key cases (i.e. cases which drew much atten- tion). 4.2. -
Tafsir Desain Kursi Di Keraton Dan Gedung Agung
No. 3 Oktober 201 0 TAFSIR DESAIN KURSl Dl KERATON DAN GEDUNG AGUNG YOGYAKARTA Ed@ Supriyatna Mz* ABSTRACT Chair is one of the unique visual arts (designs). The Indonesian word 'kuni' is possibly derived from the Arabic word 'kursiyun' which means chair. The term 'kursiyun' which is assumed originally from Kursi verses in Al-Qur'an has different functions and meanings in different contexts. In a social context, chairs are attributes that can be used to present a person's social status and prestige. It was found that in the Palace and Gedung Agung of Yogyakarta, a chair does not only funtion as a place for sitting, but it also serves as a symbolic tool for status display to build an image. Thus, it can also be used as a tool to show wealth, greatness, honor, glory, or a symbol of social status. Key Words: chair, symbol, art, design, social status Penterjemah, 1989: 63).
