Summer School 2021 SUMMER SCHOOL 2021 . Location: Seggau Castle, Leibnitz, Austria . Arrival day: Sunday, August 8th, 2021 . Summer school: Monday, August 9th – Thursday, August 12th, 2021 . Departure day: Friday, August 13th, 2021 LOCATION AND TRAVEL PREPARATIONS Seggau Castle is located about 40km south of Graz, near the beautiful city of Leibnitz. Castle Seggau is located on top of a hill overlooking the city of Leibnitz, amidst the vineyards of southern Styria, Austria 1) ARRIVING BY PLANE • From Vienna Airport there is a direct train connection to Graz Hauptbahnhof. In some cases, you need to change train in Vienna Hauptbahnhof. • From Graz Thalerhof Airport trains run to Leibnitz on a regular basis (travel time 40 min;. Check for schedules at Austrian Railways link provided above (departure point: “Flughafen Graz-Feldkirchen”; arrival point: “Leibnitz”). The train station is about 200 meters (walking distance) from the airport. For Austrian train schedules use: Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) Route Planner • Arriving in Vienna at “Wien-Hauptbahnhof”, take a train to “Leibnitz Hauptbahnhof”. • Arriving in Vienna at “Westbahnhof”, transfer to “Wien-Hauptbahnhof” (subway U6, tram No. 62 to “Philadelphiabrücke”) and proceed to “Leibnitz Hauptbahnhof” (see above). • Arriving at Graz you can take a train to Leibnitz Hauptbahnhof. 3) ARRIVING BY CAR Address of the Castle: Schloss Seggau, Seggauberg 1, 8430 Leibnitz 4) ONCE YOU MADE IT TO LEIBNITZ After arriving at Leibnitz train station, take a cab to “Schloss Seggau”. If there is no taxi present, please call one of the local taxi companies, e.g. • maytaxi - Leibnitz • https://www.herold.at/gelbe-seiten/leibnitz/taxi-u-personentransporte/ We will try to arrange a pick-up shuttle service from Leibnitz train station depending on arrivals. More info will follow soon. ENTRY TO AUSTRIA For those students who will come to Seggau Castle, the University of Graz will issue approx. 2 weeks before the start of the summer school a confirmation and invitation letter for the summerschool course. TRAVEL PREPARATIONS We recommend to book tickets with the possibility of cancellation (most transportation companies do offer cancellation or rebooking options free of charge). The CIRCLE Board reserves the possibility to cancel the Summer School in case of a serious deterioration of the Covid-19 situation until 23 July 2021 at the latest. Travel costs for the summer school for scholarship holders are included in the CIRCLE travel grant. In special cases, cancellation costs may be refunded for self-payers.     Directions to the institute From the Graz International Airport (GRZ) to the Institute A taxi from the Graz international airport to the institute costs approx. 25 EUR. There are trains (S-Bahn no. 5) from the Graz airport (Train stop: Flughafen Graz-Feldkirchen) to the Graz main railway station (Train stop: Graz Hauptbahnhof), which runs every half an hour. From the Graz main railway station to the institute see below. There are less frequent buses (Bus 630) from the airport to the city centre (Bus stop: Graz Jakominiplatz). From Jakominiplatz to the institute you may walk about 10 minutes to the institute or take the tram no. 6 to the Neue Technik stop (see map below). A great success was the opening of a Christian Doppler Laboratory for Sustainable Product Management enabling a Circular Economy in April - this lab is currently the only Christian Doppler Laboratory being active at the University of Graz. Co-funded by the companies iPoint and ARA AG this research laboratory provides a creative space for developing and conducting research in sustainable product management, the results of which will support the transition toward a circular economy. In combination with other third party funded project activities on circular economy issues (Cresting, Start Circles) this enables us to develop a strong research focus in this domain. From a human resource perspective, the decisions of 2019 will enable continued development. First, Tobias Stern was appointed to move from his limited term endowed chair to an unlimited professorship on Innovation and Transition Research. Later on, Georg Jäger was appointed to fill a tenure track position (§99/5) on computer-based systems sciences. Hence, both colleagues have now the opportunity to work at the institute for a long time. Therefore, our institute can now rely on a steady personnel structure enhancing continued long-term development.
