Half Court Sets

Dribble Drag Pindown

3 dribbles at 1 who cuts backdoor, then dribbles off drag screen from 5, 2 dives off back of 4 toward the rim. 1 continues and cuts off pindown screen from 4.

Wing Twist

1 passes to 2 on the wing and cuts off him (similar to 21 action) 2 passes to 4 at the top of the key. 1 & 2 screen off each other, typically 2 man popping to look for a quick shot. If no shot is available then he comes off dribble hand off from 4 and 1 comes off double screen on baseline.

Page | 6 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

Chicago

5 brings the ball up the floor (or 1 passes to him on the trail) and 1 sets a down screen for 2 who comes off dribble hand off form 5. 2 looks to attack and 5 dives hard to the rim.

Weave

4 (typically ) cuts off 5, 1 passes to him and clears to the corner. 4 dribble hand offs to 3 who drives across and dribble hand offs to 2. 2 comes off ballscreen from 5 who rolls to the rim. Note: in this set Klay Thompson (2) likes to attack early off the last dribble handoff and beat the defense early to the rim.

Motion Weak Fist

Set made famous by the , 1 passes to 2 and cuts through to opposite wing. 2 passes to 4 who reverse to 1. 3 cuts down and sets cross screen for 5 and clears to the wing. 1 & 5 run Pick & Roll on the wing.

They run this action out of both Motion Strong & Weak, ending into Horns and a pindown screen away. Note: They like to open up the game with this set to try and get Klay Thompson and early score. Page | 8 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

Same action as Zip Fake Mix, but instead after the fake dribble hand off 5 dribbles at 2 who cuts backdoor.

Rip DHO

3 passes to 4 at the top of the key and 1 (Steph Curry) sets backscreen for 3. If covered, 1 comes off dribble hand off from 4 looking to attack.

Page | 10 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

Rip DHO Seal

Same action as above, but instead of giving it to 1 off the dribble hand off, 3 seals his man in the post on a mismatch. Fist Spread

In end of clock situations or if the Warriors feel like they have an advantage based on Pick & Roll coverage, they run a Spread Pick & Roll in space. Page | 11 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

Fist Spread Down

Typically at the end of quarters, the Warriors run this set. 2 sets a down screen for 5 who sprints up to set a ballscreen for 1. After setting the down screen, 2 cuts off down screen from 4 to the wing. Action with a high ballscreen that is tough to guard. Fist Spread Down Slip

When the Warriors go small, they run their 4 man (Draymond/Barnes) off a down screen and they slip the ballscreen to give 4 man a chance to attack.

Page | 12 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

Fist Spread Down Veer

Steve Kerr noticed the Clippers running this set for Redick this season and applied it to the Fist Spread series, running 4 man off the ballscreen slip into a pindown screen for 2.

Fist Spread Down Veer Counter

If the 2 man is overplayed on the Veer screen he runs off a double baseline screen from 3 & 5 to look for a shot.

Page | 13 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

ATO Rip

Steve Kerr’s go to After Time Out set in this year’s playoffs is designed to get Draymond a quick layup off backscreen from Klay.

Page | 14 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

SLOB Away

Sideline out of bounds set designed to get Klay Thompson a shot off a quick pindown screen.

Page | 15 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

SLOB Away Slip

A counter off of the SLOB Away, if 5’s man overhelps or falls asleep then Bogut can fake the screen and slip for a lob. SLOB Quick Pitch Fist

1 passes to 2 off zipper cut. 2 turns and quick pitches to 1 and clears to the corner, 1 comes off ballscreen from 5.

Page | 16 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

SLOB 2 Low

A counter off of SLOB Away, 1 fakes like he will reject the screen and cuts inside. As 3 dribbles across he turns and sprints off double screen from 4 & 5 for a shot.

COB Rip

An After Time Out set again, Kerr uses 1 as a screen to get a quick layup. 1 sets backscreen for 4 who fakes cutting off double screen.

Page | 17 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

Baseline Out of Bounds

BLOB

This is the main BLOB the Warriors have used this postseason. 1st option is to look for reject of double screen for layup. 2nd option is cutting off double screen. 3rd option is for 2 to kick to 4 at the top and set a down screen for 1 to come off dribble hand off to attack.

Page | 18 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

BLOB Mix Double

A set the have run all year, that Kerr adapted for the Warriors, 5 screens for 1 and pops. This action almost guarantees 5 will be open because his man must help at basket allowing the dribble hand off to 3. 1 then comes off double screen from 4 & 5.

Page | 19 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

Half Court Sets

Down Slide

2 sets down screen for 3 (LeBron James) 1 passes to 3 and slides over to the wing. 3 passes right back to 1 and follows with a ballscreen. This set can be a slip for 3 or on a switch look to post up.

Cavs run a lot of Pick & Roll with Kyrie/LeBron, 4 slips ballscreen into space to get an isolation opportunity. Page | 21 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

AI Seal Under

2 cuts off 4 & 5, 4 pops & 1 passes to 4. 3 dives under and seals his man for post up.

Page | 23 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

Fist Down (Weave)

Cavs weave set, similar to standard weaves, but the wrinkle I like is when 1 comes through he receives a brush screen or exchange from 3 before attacking the Pick & Roll. Page | 24 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

Hawk Double

1 dribbles on the wing and 2 cuts off hawk screen from 3. 3 then turns and sets a ballscreen for 1, 2 comes off double screen on opposite wing. 1 chooses best option.

Hawk Double Leak

A set commonly run for in the regular season, David Blatt run this counter for JR Smith in the Playoffs. Instead of a double screen he peels off the screen for a quick shot.

Page | 25 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

Hawk 2 High

Another nice counter out of the Hawk Screen, instead of cutting off of it 2 (typically JR Smith) fakes the cut and sets a double ballscreen for LeBron to attack. This is a nice counter because typically defense expects 2 to just cut through, so it almost guarantees a bad hedge.

Horns Loop Mix

1 () cuts through, 2 screens for him and comes off for dribble hand off from 4 to attack.

Page | 26 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops

Loop Double

1 (Kyrie Irving passes to the wing and cuts through. 2 passes to 5. 1 cuts off double screen from 2 & 4 and comes off dribble hand off from 5 to attack.

Horns Lift

1 dribbles off ballscreen from 4, 4 pops and 5 dives to the rim. 4 looks for hi lo entry, then reverses to 3 and sets a ballscreen. 2 man game.

Page | 27 Coach Gibson Pyper @HalfCourtHoops
