The manda- tory participatory meetings in municipal planning are criticized for being slow and ineffcient and alterna- tive, parallel methods of participation are called for. After having followed two municipalities’ efforts in trying their hand at such alternative methods, conclu- sions have been drawn about participation in municipal planning in general. The frst case study in the mu- nicipality of Uddevalla (2009-2011) dealt with specifc participatory methods in practice, while the second case study in the municipality of Lerum (2011-2014) focused on organizational changes. A vast empirical material has been collected in interviews, workshops and meetings, most of which have been audio-recorded. -

TIME for SHIFT CHANGE in the FABRIC of EXISTENCE Exploring the Role of Darkness and Artificial Light for Humans and Biodiversity
TIME FOR SHIFT CHANGE IN THE FABRIC OF EXISTENCE Exploring the role of darkness and artificial light for humans and biodiversity Author: Maya Strömgren Supervisor: Mattias Sandberg Master’s thesis in Geography with major in Human Geography Spring semester 2021 Department of Economy and Society Unit for Human Geography School of Business, Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg Student essay: 30 hec Course: GEO230 Level: Master Semester/year: Spring 2021 Supervisor: Mattias Sandberg Examiner: Jerry Olsson Key words: Darkness, artificial light, light pollution, biodiversity, human- non-human relations, all-ecology, non-representational theory. Abstract This thesis departs from the loss of biodiversity due to artificial light at night. The diurnal human has taken over all hours of the day instead of the natural light once, meaning that space and time have become limited for the nocturnal living species. Earlier research concern how darkness and artificial light affect either animals, insects, and plants, or humans’ health. The combination of the two, however, remains largely unresearched. Therefore, this geographical thesis dives into this gap by exploring humans and biodiversity in relation to darkness and artificial light. Building on that exploration, the aim was further to formulate generative ways forward in the matter. A qualitative method was conducted, consisting of a self-written Darkness Diary and walking interviews with a moth-expert, a bat expert, and a light designer and light artist. The theory of all-ecology was applied as an ontological stand and a geographical toolbox. Non- representational theory (NRT) was further applied as a guide in the exploration of experience. -

Karlssonkullingsjö, 1160102, Full Paper Version2
EEVC Brussels, Belgium, November 19-22, 2012 The Swedish car movement data project Lars-Henrik Kullingsjö 1, Sten Karlsson 2 Energy and Environment, Chalmers University of Technology Gothenburg, SE-41296, Sweden [email protected], [email protected] Abstract To facilitate a well-informed and efficient transition to electrified vehicles, such as PHEVs, information about individual vehicle’s movements over longer time periods is needed. This is of major importance for optimal battery design, estimation of consumer viability and assessment of the potential for PHEVs to shift energy use in transport sector from fuel to electricity. Good and publicly available data of this kind is today unfortunately lacking. The aim of this project has been to gather a larger amount of data on the characteristics and distribution of individual movements for privately driven cars in Sweden by measurement with GPS equipment. The logging was performed with commercial equipment containing a GPS unit, including a roof-mounted antenna, and a gprs communication unit. Data logged were: time, position, velocity, and number and id of used satellites. The measurement started in June 2010 and ended in September 2012. The target is to accomplish good quality measurements of at least 30 days for about 500 representative vehicles. All data is not yet processed but in this paper initial statistics is offered to present important areas of use and possibilities for future work. Keywords: GPS measurement, car movement pattern, PHEV, Sweden Today however there is a lack of publicly available 1 Introduction good quality data on car movement patterns. Needed is improved data on the distribution of trip Possibilities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lengths and trip characteristics, such as speed and rising oil prices and concerns about energy orography, to be able to determine the possible security are important factors increasing the energy use for individual trips and thus possibility interest for various kinds of electric vehicles. -
