Recommends that this action should be pursued and developed and assigned greater priority, and that Unesco’s activities in education, the social sciences, communication and culture should contribute in substantial measure to programmes of action in this area. Resolution 24.1: Possible establisment of a Unesco University The text of 23 C/Resolution 14.1, as given in Volume 1 of the Records of the twenty-third session of the General Conference, is replaced by the following text: 24.1 Possible establishment of a Unesco University The General Conference, on the proposal of the Drafting and Negotiation Group, decided at its thirty-seventh plenary meeting, held on 9 November 1985, to invite the Executive Board to study at its 124th session draft resolution 23 C/PLEN/DR.8, the text of which is reproduced below: DRAFT RESOLUTION submitted by Jordan, Sudan, Yemen Arab Republic, Kuwait, Algeria, Senegal, Afghanistan and Yugoslavia Unesco’s contribution to peace, and its tasks with respect to the promotion of human rights and the elimination of colonialism and racism The General Conference, Considering the importance of going more deeply into the study of the principles which should govern co-operation and understanding between States and peoples, Considering it essential to use every available means to explain the principles that provide the basis for peace, justice, equity and equality more fully and to promote an understand- ing of them, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) document. Considering also that it is important to ensure wide propagation of the ideals and purposes of the United Nations and of Unesco through those circles that know of them and are convinced of their validity, Recalling the purposes and functions set forth in Unesco’s Constitution, and in particular Article 1, paragraph 2(b), the last phrase of which refers to: ‘suggesting educational methods best suited to prepare the children of the world for the responsibilities of freedom’, Striving in this way, through the foregoing, to help the peoples to know and understand one another, Noting with satisfaction the work done and the results of the studies carried out by the United Nations University, 1. Invites the Director-General to prepare a study with a view to establishing a university, to be called the Unesco University, taking into account the concerns expressed above and the considerations set out below: - the studies offered in the University should cover only subjects relating to man and society, the work and the ideals of the United Nations system; - the teaching and administrative staff should comprise people from all the regions of the world, in accordance with well-defined rules and profiles; - the university should accept students from all continents without exception; - the university should be sited in a Member State which maintains good relations with all other States and is equipped to provide the best conditions for the University; 2.     REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA GRAND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, MUNICIPAL COUNCILLORS AND MAYORS A C T Promulgated State Gazette No. 69/22.08.1991 Amended SG 70, 76 & 98/1991; 66/1995 Chapter One GENERAL PROVISIONS Article 1 This Act shall establish the manner oF election oF Members oF the National Assembly, municipal councillors and mayors, and the procedure for the termination oF their terms oF oFFice. Article 2 (1) The election shall be conducted on the basis oF general, equal and direct suFFrage by a secret ballot. (2) The following shall be eligible to elect and to be elected: all citizens oF the Republic oF Bulgaria aged 18 or older, except those placed under judicial interdiction or serVing a prison sentence. (3) The following shall be eligible to elect municipal councillors and mayors: the residents oF the municipality, respectiVely the community, and any other citizens registered as residing within the respectiVe territory at least two months beFore voting day. Article 3 (1) The following shall be eligible to be elected to the National Assembly: any citizen oF the Republic oF Bulgaria who does not hold another citizenship, is aged 21 or older, is not under a judicial interdiction, and is not serVing a prison sentence. (2) The following shall be eligible to be elected a municipal councillor or mayor: any citizen oF the Republic oF Bulgaria aged 18 or older who is not under a judicial interdiction, is not serVing a prison sentence, and is a registered as residing within the municipality, respectively the community, at least two months beFore Voting day.

    Südosteuropa 62 (2014), no. 3, 326-347 TONKA KOSTADINOVA 60 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Greece and Bulgaria: Challenges and Benefits of the Reconciliation Process Abstract. In 2014, Greece and Bulgaria celebrate the 60th anniversary of the 1954 restoration of diplomatic relations . The history of the Greek–Bulgarian rapprochement after decades of hostility and national rivalry represents a unique case of postwar recovery and reconciliation, comparable only to the German–French example . Indeed, the course of Greek–Bulgarian relations is particularly interesting because it often transcends the specific aspects of bilateral developments and takes account of broader geopolitical processes, such as the conflicting uS and Soviet stances on key Cold War issues or the energy rivalry in the post-1989 period. Using the method of diachronic analysis, the article gives an overview of the development of Greek–Bulgarian relations, as it seeks to outline the major achievements of the past and the possible challenges for the future . Tonka Kostadinova is assistant Professor at the National Museum of Military History, Sofia. Greek–Bulgarian Relations in Times of Transition, 1954–1974 Greek–Bulgarian relations during the last six decades offer an interesting precedent in Balkan and European diplomatic history . Although they were “traditional” national rivals and were military and ideological opponents during the Cold War, Greece and Bulgaria managed during this period to overcome the burdensome legacy of the past and establish constructive political, economic, and cultural relations for the first time in their common history. This article seeks to reveal the major path dependencies in their relations and argues that the foundation for the post-1989 rapprochement and the role that the two countries assumed as partners in the EU was created during the Cold War era .

Sansaridou-Hendrickx Johannesburg 2014/15 1 Foreword When I was in Primary School I recall hearing and reading about the exploits and conquests of Alexander the Great. To me, Alexander the Great or Μεγαλέξανδρος was more than a great warrior who tamed Bucephalus at a young age and then proceeded to conquer the known world before the age of thirty. Personally, he was a champion for Greece and for Hellenism. Alexander the Great ensured that Greece and Hellenism would become known and respected throughout the ages. Films have been made and books have been written about him. References have even made about him and his empire in Holy Scriptures like the Bible (in Daniel 7:6, 8:5-7, 11:3-4) as the Four-Horned Goat, the Four-Winged Leopard and the metal statue and the Quran (as Dhul-Qarnayn the Two-Horned One). When I was in High School I recall how passionately the global Hellenic community reacted when a small republic on Greece’s northern frontier proclaimed its independence with the official name “Republic of Macedonia”. This event struck a deeply emotional chord within me. I viewed this occurrence as a theft of my heritage. A proud heritage that was being appropriated by a young republic that was desperate to clutch onto anything in order to assign legitimacy to its newly-found independent status.
