Some 220 points separate the top programme, University of St Gallen, from the school ranked 70th. The top 12 participants, from University of St Gallen to Edhec Business School, form the top group of masters in management providers. The second group, headed by Grenoble Graduate School of Business, spans schools ranked to 32, a range of 37 points. Differences between schools are small within this group. The 21 schools in the third group are similarly close together. Maastricht School of Business and Economics, which heads this group, is 33 points above ICN Business School, the last school in the third group. The remaining 17 schools make up the fourth group. However, there are challenges to address. This case describes the recent experience of two major French business schools. The focus is on the changes made to faculty management. The case offers an opportunity to reflect on the benefits and potential pitfalls of the new workload policy. Keywords: Business Schools; Mergers; Faculty Management; Workload Policy INTRODUCTION n the spring of 2013, Rouen Business School and Reims Management School, two major French business schools located near Paris, announced their merger to become NEOMA Business School. While comparable in size and reputation among students and employers alike, the two schools had Idistinct cultures and procedures with regard to faculty management. Among the most pressing issues was the need to define common rules. This case presents some of the most visible measures affecting the faculty. It offers the opportunity to reflect on their potential benefits and consider their likely consequences. In addition, the background material can be used to evaluate the benefits of a merger between two business schools. Suggested questions and possible answers are provided at the end of the case. BACKGROUND INFORMATION NEOMA Business School is a French business school.
