At the annual meeting of the SDS Group on May 25, 2011, Dagens Nyheter Editor-in-Chief and President Gunilla Herlitz was elected the new chairman of the board. Herlitz will also become chairman of the board for Bold Printing Group at its annual meeting in September. She replaces Ulrika Saxon as chair of the SDS Group Board and Jonas Bonnier as chair of the Bold Group Board.
"Sydsvenskan is an editorially strong that clearly sets the agenda in its market," says Jonas Bonnier, CEO of Bonnier AB. "We hope and believe that with Gunilla Herlitz as chairman and with Lars Dahmén as CEO we can achieve financial results that reflect its editorial strength."
Gunilla Herlitz has been editor-in-chief and CEO for Dagens Nyheter since fall 2009. Prior to that, she was editor-in-chief and CEO for Dagens industri and she has worked as a journalist at Svenska Dagbladet and Expressen, among others.
"I naturally see the possibility of bringing to Sysvenskan my important experiences with change at Dagens Nyheter that have been undertaken over the past year and a half," says Herlitz. "Daily newspapers have long been exposed to strong pressures on account of new advertising patterns and changed media habits. Furthermore, we live in an age of competition from even non-journalistic media so it is ever more important to protect the high- quality journalism that morning newspapers represent and here DN and Sydsvenskan can clearly learn from one another."
