Expect the unexpected in this remote and that you have the best experience region, including slow or no internet and the possible. Every Backroads trip is unique and occasional ATM possibly running out of cash. It's all this one is no exception. part of the adventure! TERRAIN & TRAIL SUPPORT Our hikes through Patagonia's captivating rugged terrain climb rocky and sometimes uneven paths, many of which are remote and do not intersect with roads. Vehicles will get us to and from the trailheads, but due to the nature of these trails, we won't see our vehicles along the route. Ample trail support in the form of water, snacks and encouragement is provided by your Backroads leaders and local guides. TRAVEL TIME In order to experience the full grandeur of Argentina's Patagonia region, we spend more time shuttling and on boat crossings on this trip than on a typical Backroads trip. This enables us to explore the incredible variety of ecosystems and scenery this region has to offer. Rest assured, the views from these shuttles are spectacular. US citizens need a passport valid at least 6 months beyond the start date of the trip. HIKING IN NATIONAL PARKS Most hikes on this itinerary are inside Argentine national parks and unlike other Backroads walking and hiking trips, regulations require a certified local guide to accompany us. We offer flexibility by dividing into several groups of different paces, with each group hiking in the company of a local guide. LEADERS & LOCAL GUIDES Trips with a small number of guests may be supported by one Backroads Trip Leader and a team of knowledgeable local guides. Rest assured that there will always be at least two people hiking on the trail with you. ITINERARY CHANGES Because of Patagonia's extreme weather conditions and strong winds, mid-trip itinerary changes are 4 DAY 1 On the first day of the trip, meet your Backroads Trip Leaders (the folks in Backroads T-shirts) at 8:30 a.m. at Hotel Posada Los Alamos (+54-(0)2902-491144, ext. 502 or 501) located at Ing. Miami , Flori daBuenos Aires, Argentina Overview Introduction Buenos Aires, Argentina, is a wonderful combination of sleek skyscrapers and past grandeur, a collision of the ultrachic and tumbledown. Still, there has always been an undercurrent of melancholy in B.A. (as it is affectionately known by expats who call Buenos Aires home), which may help explain residents' devotion to that bittersweet expression of popular culture in Argentina, the tango. Still performed—albeit much less frequently now—in the streets and cafes, the tango has a romantic and nostalgic nature that is emblematic of Buenos Aires itself. Travel to Buenos Aires is popular, especially with stops in the neighborhoods of San Telmo, Palermo— and each of its colorful smaller divisions—and the array of plazas that help make up Buenos Aires tours. Highlights Sights—Inspect the art-nouveau and art-deco architecture along Avenida de Mayo; see the "glorious dead" in the Cementerio de la Recoleta and the gorgeously chic at bars and cafes in the same neighborhood; shop for antiques and see the tango dancers at Plaza Dorrego and the San Telmo Street Fair on Sunday; tour the old port district of La Boca and the colorful houses along its Caminito street; cheer at a soccer match between hometown rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate (for the very adventurous only). Museums—Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA: Coleccion Costantini); Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes; Museo Municipal de Arte Hispano-Americano Isaac Fernandez Blanco; Museo Historico Nacional; Museo de la Pasion Boquense (Boca football); one of two tango museums: Museo Casa Carlos Gardel or Museo Mundial del Tango.

  • Useful Information About Buenos Aires CLADEA 2014 Buenos Aires 1
Useful information about Buenos Aires CLADEA 2014 Buenos Aires 1. Tips for money exchange Due to economy policies we have had these few last years, foreign exchange has two markets: the official one and the so-called “blue” (not legal but which most people use). As tourists you can access the official market in banks and foreign exchange offices. We strongly recommend that you stick to it and not try buying in the blue market. While walking along downtown streets you will be offered money exchange by people standing in the corners. These are what we call “arbolitos” (small trees). Their rate is usually very good but making a transaction with them is quite risky. Where to get reliable Exchange information • www.bna.com.ar – página oficial. • www.afip.gob.ar – página oficial. • www.ambito.com -- página no oficial. • www.lanacion.com.ar/dolar-hoy – página no oficial. Some other useful tips on money • Tax Free Shopping – Foreign tourists can get the IVA tax (VAT) refunded when buying domestic goods as from $70. To get this percentage discounted, you should ask to be given a “B” ticket at stores and the “Refunding Check” stating the amount to be refunded. Any imported good you may buy should be in a different ticket. Before departure you should show the acquired goods, the ticket and check to be stamped at customs. The amount to be refunded is the 21% of the full price, which corresponds to the IVA. • Please note: Some restaurants, hotels, shopping malls, may prefer to receive dollars so they can give you a better exchange rate.
