Altzella Monastery Park Life Behind Monastery Walls

BRIEF DESCRIPTION The ruins and buildings of what once used to be one of the richest and most powerful Cistercian monasteries lie embedded in a romantic landscape park. Since the time of Reformation, its monks have long disappeared but buildings, such as the Converses’ House with the Refectorium and Library Hall or the Mausoleum of the Wettins, are a testimony of bygone times. Where had the monks once come from, which rules did they follow and what was their everyday life like? These are some of the questions that will be answered during an adventurous tour with a special highlight: While tasting a goblet of wine in the Refectorium you are given insight into the strict rules of the Cistercian Order in those times and will learn something about the measure of the drink. The tour will end at a coffee table where typical Saxon pastry is served.

The Grand Garden of Dresden By Rail and on Foot

BRIEF DESCRIPTION No doubt, the Grand Garden is the most beautiful of the numerous parks of the city. There are quite a number of visitors that listen up in amazement when rail noise and a locomotive's resolute whistle disrupt the idyllic tranquility and dense clouds of smoke rise through the canopy of foliage. The answer to the riddle is the Dresden Park Railway, a miniature train that has been operated for decades now by children and youths in their leisure time. Dresden Royal Palace A Unique Museum Experience

BRIEF DESCRIPTION The Dresden Royal Palace ranks among the most important palatial buildings of German Renaissance. Since 1485, Dresden has uninterruptedly been the residence of Saxon electors and kings. Today, the castle is home of the Historic Green Vault and the New Green Vault, the »Turkish Chamber«, the monumental Great Hall with the Armory, the Gallery of the Nobles and the Coin Cabinet. The guided tour starts in the Small Castle Yard of the Residential Castle, which was only reopened in 2009. Now, a transparent dome spans the historical Small Castle Yard, which had been open to the sky for centuries. Yet, it still allows to experience the various façades of the Renaissance castle yard in its entirety. In addition, the guided tour leads you to the major works of the Green Vault, the »Turkish Chamber«, the Armory in the monumental Great Hall as well as the Coin Cabinet. BRIEF DESCRIPTION It was Augustus the Strong who had this Baroque piece of art created in the early 17th century as a magnificent venue for courtly festivities. Today, the Dresden Zwinger accommodates museums of world renown and is the stage for music and theater performances. BRIEF DESCRIPTION Under Elector Frederick the Wise and his successors, Hartenfels Castle and Torgau became the political center of the Reformation in the 16th century. Martin Luther stayed in this town on the Elbe River over 60 times. He consecrated the Castle Chapel there in 1544 as the first newly-built Protestant church. Wolkenburg Castle The Count’ Beautiful Cabinets

BRIEF DESCRIPTION Wolkenburg Castle, its park grounds and the Lauchhammer cast-iron sculptures are always worth a visit. The late 12th century ensemble was later reconstructed into a palace and has seen gradual restoration since 2000. Especially impressive are the Classicist-style festive hall and the library designed in the shape of a ‘rondonta’. Also the exhibition rooms with cabinets presenting the painter Fritz von Uhde and the family of the Count von Einsiedel as the former owners invite for a visit. A four-hectare-large park estate surrounds the building complex and offers to take a stroll or have a rest. The sculptures placed there are originals, basically in Classicist style, and masterpieces of their time. The tour will be completed by enjoying coffee and cake.
