Odgovore respondentov primerja z knjigotrškimi in knjižničarskimi statistikami in na tej osnovi analizira razmerja med zasebnim in javnim sektorjem na področju knjige, pri čemer ugotavlja pozitivno korelacijo med branjem leposlovja in širjenjem vključenosti prebivalstva v izobraževalne sisteme ter negativno korelacijo med branjem leposlovja in širjenjem avdio-vizualnih medijev. Ključne besede: slovenski knjižni trg / bralne navade / e-knjige / knjižne statistike / knjižnice / knjigotrštvo / leposlovje / uspešnice / žanri Naloga, ki si jo zadaja pričujoče besedilo, nas že v izhodišču napo- tuje na spolzek teren. Ugotoviti namreč želi, kako se je zadnjih 40 let v Sloveniji spreminjal odnos do branja leposlovja, v kakšni interakciji je bil s prodajo in izposojo knjig ter katere družbene in tehnološke spremembe so ga najbolj zaznamovale. Težava pri tovrstnih raziskavah je namreč v tem, da imamo ne samo v Sloveniji, ampak tudi drugje po svetu na razpolago razmeroma malo podatkov o bralnih navadah v različnih obdobjih in še manj knjigotrških statistik; pomagati si je torej treba z indičnimi dokazi in občasno o lokalnih razmerah sklepati na podlagi globalnih trendov. Poleg tega so bile raziskave bralnih navad v Sloveniji izvedene v precej različnih družbenih okoliščinah in z različnimi metodologijami, zato njihovi izsled- ki niso neposredno primerljivi in zgolj nakazujejo osnovne smeri razvoja bralnih navad. Bralcu, ki nima veselja do statistik in do podrobnejšega razumevanja mehanizmov, ki uravnavajo delovanje knjižno-založniške dejavnosti, zato priporočam, da podatkovne dele besedile le preleti in se osredotoči predvsem na zaključke, ki jih bom izpeljal iz njih – ti namreč odpirajo kar nekaj novih vprašanj, povezanih z razmerji med nosilci knji- 1 Primerjalna književnost (Ljubljana) 38.3 (2015) PKn, letnik 38, št 3, Ljubljana, december 2015 ževnih besedil, tehnologijami za njihovo razširjanje in percepcijo književ- nih vsebin. Raziskave branja v Sloveniji Uvodoma velja poudariti, da je, kar zadeva raziskave branja, Slovenija razmeroma srečna dežela, saj smo prvo resno raziskavo bralnih navad iz- vedli že leta 1973, nato pa jih ponovili vsakih deset do petnajst let (Žnideršič 1999; Rupar 2015). Izsledki raziskav so bili objavljeni leta 1974, 1979, 1984, 1998 in 2014, pri njihovem navajanju pa se bom v prvi vrsti naslo- nil na povzetke, kot so bili objavljeni leta 1999 (Žnideršič idr.). Rezultate pete raziskave z uradnim naslovom Bralna kultura v republiki Sloveniji bom povzemal po njihovi tiskani objavi (2015), pri čemer grafi, ki jih bomo uporabil v pričujočem besedilu, še niso bili javno objavljeni. Vprašanja v vseh petih raziskavah so bila zaznamovana ne samo z raz- ličnimi metodološkimi pristopi (prve štiri raziskave so bile terenske, peta je bila izvedena s pomočjo spletnega anketiranja), ampak tudi z duhom časa ter vrednotami

    Talivee: Tallinn Historical Fiction 109 Layers of the Past in Tallinn Historical Fiction: Jaan Kross and The Case of Balthasar Russow Elle-Mari Talivee Under and Tuglas Literature Centre of the Estonian Academy of Sciences _____________________________________ Abstract: A tetralogy called Kolme katku vahel (Between Three Plagues: The Story of Balthasar Russow) by the Estonian author Jaan Kross was published in the 1970s. Kross’s aim in this historical novel sequence was to educate his readers about the history of Tallinn and to activate their cultural memory. Kross was inspired by three texts about Tallinn: Balthasar Russow’s Chronika der Provintz Lyffland (‘Chronicle of the province of Livonia’, 1578), a short story entitled ‘Katsumus’ (‘An ordeal’, 1947) published by the exiled Estonian writer Gert Helbemäe in 1947 in Sweden, and a hypothesis by the historian Paul Johansen proposing that the author of the chronicle, Russow, might have been the son of an Estonian wagoner from the Tallinn Vorstadt of Kalamaja. This article discusses how Jaan Kross’s novel differs from earlier fictional treatments by major Estonian novelists of the Baltic German past of Tallinn. Through its comparisons between the varied sources of a modern historical novel sequence, the article’s aim is to show how and why the main character of Kross’s tetralogy changed existing spatial perceptions of Tallinn by unearthing buried elements of the city’s history. Tartu, 2012 POETICS OF THE LEITMOTIFS OF JAAN KROSS’S NOVEL “THE CZAR’S MADMAN”* LEA PILD No one has yet written about the leitmotifs1 used by Jaan Kross in “The Czar’s Madman” (nor about the micropoetics of his novels as a whole). This article will make the first attempt at such an analysis, which will provide not only for greater understanding of the architectonics of the writer’s artistic world as a whole, but also for the concretization of a complete series of features related to the composition of Kross’s works that have already been broached by literary scholars and critics. In accordance with literary tradition, “leitmotif” in this article is understood as a repetitive element in the text (words, phrases, parallel scenes, etc.), which, through its repetition many times over, forms a distinctive compositional struc- ture in the novel. Repeating motifs (or leitmotifs) are a means of structuring a narrative (a type of composition) that inevitably leads to the appearance in the text, alongside empirical imagery, of conditionally symbolic details, scenes, or episodes. Just such a narrative organization is found in “The Czar’s Madman”, which, like some of Kross’s other historical novels, such as “Between Three Plagues” and “Professor Martens’ Departure”, approaches the genre of 20th century neo- mythology.
