Teaching Experience:

2019-present Olin Business School, Washington University in St. Louis

Opportunities and Challenges of the Global Economy 10-day field-study in Beijing and Shanghai, China for Olin EMBA students. Gives students a first-hand experience with international, private-domestic, and State-owned-domestic companies operating in China. Course requires students to practice learning about key cultural and institutional elements in new and unfamiliar contexts and adapting operating, management, and marketing strategies to these contextual details.

China National Health Commission Training Program on Precision Health Care and Translational Medicine A custom program for senior (Vice-presidents and Presidents) hospital administrators working for leading Chinese medical centers. The program combined daily on-site meetings with health care professionals at Washington University’s medical center to observe state-of-the-art cancer treatment and patient care. Each hospital visit was also paired with half-day workshops with Olin Business School faculty to help the participants understand the management, leadership and teamwork skills needed to provide these services.

2018-present Washington University- EMBA Program

Sustaining Value through Corporate Strategy A four-day required course focusing on multi-business and global strategy setting and leadership. Participants examined three key responsibilities for corporate strategists—finding growth, developing talent to sustain that growth, and managing performance. As a final project, students examine and critique these activities in their own organizations.

Innovation Projects Course serves as a capstone to the EMBA program and requires students to develop a new business from ideation to formal business plan. The course runs over the last 1/3 of the EMBA program, with teams meeting monthly with the instructor for coaching sessions on various aspects of their business plan. It culminates with a formal presentation of the business idea to a panel of faculty and entrepreneurs in the final residency of the program.

2018-present IIT Bombay-Washington University EMBA

Global Planning and Strategy Capstone simulation exercise at the end of the EMBA program. Revisits the strategic analysis components of the core strategy course using the tools taught throughout the program. Includes a strong emphasis on building a high-performance management team by designing an organization to cope with the fast pace and complex nature of the simulation exercise.

2015-2017 Duke Kunshan University

Boehringer-Ingleheim China Organizational Development Program A custom program to implement a corporate initiative to increase Accountability, Agility and Intrapreneurial behaviors. The program includes a mix of workshops and regular coaching sessions with members of Action Reflection Learning Projects.

2012-2017 Fuqua School of Business, Duke University

Business Communications I One of the fifteen required courses in the Master of Management Studies program. The course focuses on preparing, delivering and critiquing oral presentation, with individual and group presentations.

Business Communications II One of the fifteen required courses in the Master of Management Studies program. The course is designed as a combination capstone and professional development course. Students work in teams on consulting projects for international and domestic Chinese companies, with regular deliverables that require them to work on and receive feedback about their formal and informal communication skills.

Culture, Civilization, and Leadership A required “spine” course taught in all five locations (Durham, Shanghai, Dubai, Delhi and St. Petersburg) for Fuqua’s Cross Continent MBA program. Course introduces students to history, culture, and political economy of each region/country and includes a half-day experiential investigation at each location.

Fuqua Client Consulting Practicum Sourced student consulting projects in Shanghai and served as on-the-ground supervisor for two teams of students during their two weeks on the ground in Shanghai.

China GATE (Global Academic Travel Experience) An elective course for first year MBA students interested in exposure to China’s commercial and political institutions. Combined four weeks of in-classroom preparation work with two weeks of on-the-ground experience in Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Shanghai

Global Leadership Workshop: Leading Across Divides A three-day leadership workshop in Dubai, with modules on leading across cultures, gender, age, and distance. Participants were from 11 different countries from the Middle East, Europe, South Asia and East Asia.

2012-2017 Duke Corporate Education

LIXIL High Potential Program A one-day module on strategic execution taught as part of a three day program by Duke Corporate Education for a Japanese building materials company. Participants were from five different countries in East and Southeast Asia.

SASAC Global Leaders Program A one-day cross cultural management module taught as part of a two day program by Duke Corporate Education designed for the State Asset Supervision and Administration Committee (SASAC), the national level administrative body with responsibility for the largest State- owned companies in China.

2004-2012 Washington University-Fudan University EMBA Program Fudan University, Shanghai China

Strategic Management A core course taught to all EMBA students in the joint venture program at the onset of the program. Combines both traditional strategic analysis and strategic management training, with an emphasis on teamwork and leadership.

Strategic Management Core strategy course taught in English to Chinese MBA students at Fudan University as part of their IMBA program (a joint venture with MIT). The course is case based and analytical and is designed to train local Chinese to analyze problems and interact in a western style.

Sept. 2011 China Mobile Communications Management School Beijing China

China Mobile Growth Strategies Program Program director with design and delivery responsibilities for a two-day workshop delivered to the chief operating officers of 54 operating companies within the China Mobile Communications group. Program was delivered in English with simultaneous translation into Chinese and bilingual teaching materials.

2008-2009 Rochester-Berne Executive MBA Program Shanghai China

Management in Emerging Markets: Entry and Management Instructor and Academic Director with overall responsibility for the design and delivery of a one week residency in Shanghai for Executive MBA students from a Joint Venture Executive MBA program between Rochester University and Berne University. Students were required to complete projects investigating the strategic and tactical adjustments they will need to bring a business or part of an existing business to China.

Industry Analysis and Strategy Development A second year MBA elective applying the economics of industrial organization to business problems.

Introduction to Management and Strategy A seven-week course taught to all first semester of the MBA program. Introduces students to the basics of industry analysis and firm-level competitive advantage. Course consists of biweekly case discussion and brief supporting lectures.

Competitive Strategy An upper division undergraduate elective that teaches students to apply elementary economic principles from industrial organization to contemporary business problems. The course uses a combination of case studies and lectures to develop the students’ critical thinking and culminates with a team-based management simulation that provides students with an opportunity to apply their economic analysis skills.
