Doug Fraser is the Chief Estimator at EllisDon Construction Services. Looking for a new challenge with a larger contractor, Doug joined EllisDon where he leads a team of estimators responsible for all Northern pursuits.

Doug, a second-generation estimator, has an extensive history in the construction industry. His father was also an estimator with a long history in the construction industry in the city, leading to Doug’s career Doug Fraser path. Doug has 32 years of industry experience, starting EllisDon Construction in his days as a labourer while attending NAIT. For the last Services Inc. 20 years, Doug has worked as an estimator, with the last Chief Estimator nine being in an Estimating Manager or Chief Estimator position, for some of the major general contractors, all here in Edmonton.

A born and raised Edmontonian, Doug is happy to call this city home. His entire family, including his two grown children, also call Edmonton home. An avid sports fan, Doug fills his time playing hockey and volunteering with his step-son’s club soccer team. He always has a home reno project on the go or can be found working on his current project car.

Doug wants to get further involved and help shape the future of the construction industry into a positive, open and collaborate environment. He looks forward to working with subcontractor and supplier members to further our collective interests and continuing to strengthen the Edmonton Construction Association.

Travis Gilson has always been a builder of great things. With over two and a half decades of experience, Travis serves as a Senior Operations Manager with Graham Construction and Engineering. He pursued a career in construction to connect everything he was passionate about: problem solving, working with others in a collaborative environment, and building meaningful places that will be used for years to come.

As a kid, he was constantly taking things apart and Travis Gilson putting them back together. He has been intrigued Graham Construction and by construction since he began working during the Engineering summers when he was a teenager. Travis has a unique Senior Operations and advantageous background built from the ground up, Manager bringing his hands-on experience as a tradesman and site superintendent. Building on this solid foundation and his technical training in construction he quickly advanced into project management and leadership roles. Travis continued his education in alignment with these new challenges and advocates strongly for educational opportunities within the industry.

Passionate about growing and mentoring his teams, Travis builds trust and authentic relationships as he empowers people to find success in their roles. He is driven by a desire to inspire and develop others: seeing himself as a leader working to better himself and his team. He is particularly proud of Graham’s involvement in the communities in which they work as it aligns with his commitment to community. As a Past President of his Rotary Club to working with Habitat for Humanity he looks to leave his own mark for the betterment of the greater good.

Jen has worked for Chandos for the last 12 years and has helped lead may of the company’s innovative practices in that time. She works primarily as a coach, facilitator and trainer for project teams with a focus on Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), collaborative construction practices, Lean and Sustainability. She worked on some of the first IPD projects in Canada and has been a key champion in bringing it across the country from BC to . She oversees Lean integration and training, and was instrumental in setting up and managing the waste Jen Hancock BA, BEd, diversion policy in 2010 that has seen the company divert LEED AP BD+C over 70% of its waste in the last 9 years. Jen is also on Chandos Construction the board of directors and is committee chair with the Ltd. Integrated Project Delivery Alliance. Vice President Collaborative Jen attended the University of Alberta and has a Bachelor Construction of Arts degree in English and Bachelor of Education Degree. She taught in both Edmonton and Seoul, South Korea; and, she uses this training extensively in her current role. Jen has lived in Edmonton for the last 25 years and loves being part of the design and construction industry. She has a passion to learn, educate and improve the industry.

Doug Hansen of Fillmore Construction is seeking re- election on the ECA Board of Directors. Over the past two years Doug has been highly engaged in several ECA initiatives including the Finance and Risk Committee, Stakeholder Strategies and Engagement Committee, and the Education Sub-committee. As an ECA Representative for the Alberta Construction Association Board of Directors he has participated in several other external partnership engagements with municipal and provincial governments as well as a variety of ECA stakeholder Doug Hansen groups. Fillmore Construction Management Inc. Doug has been with Fillmore Construction as a Project Project Director Director for the last 25 years. Doug is highly effective and passionate about several sectors of commercial construction while specializing in food plant and tenant Improvement development and construction. Doug’s clients have held true to him for a long time, he has completed over $200M of Shoppers Drug Mart over the last 25 years while completing numerous projects for the likes of Maple Leaf Foods and Sofina at the same time. Overall, he has personally managed over $800M in construction projects in his career with no end in sight.

With a generally young group of project managers and site superintendents at Fillmore Construction, Doug has been key in the training and development of those around him. He is driven to complete projects on exceptionally tight timelines, his leadership in this area shines clearly in Fillmore Construction’s success.

Rob McGrath, President of Synergy Projects has served as a dedicated board member for the past 2 years while helping Synergy become one of the foremost contractors in the Edmonton area. Rob has over 17 years of construction experience and has always found personal service to the construction industry as gratifying as the work he helps put in place. Rob is a strong supporter of the entire construction industry, continually creating partnerships in the supplier, trade and GC space. Rob continues to be a proud supporter of other not for profit Rob McGrath organizations within Edmonton including United Way and Synergy Projects Ltd. the MS Society. President Rob is seeking re-election having served on the board of the ECA for the past 2 years, this year serving as Chair of the Governance and HR committee. In addition to his role on the ECA board, Rob has been involved with the ECA’s Young Builders Group (YBG) since its inception 6 years ago. He started as a founding member and has served as executive chair for the past 4 years. The YBG continues to be one of the flagship offerings from the ECA, connecting more young professional groups within Edmonton than any other organization.

Rob looks forward to continuing his involvement in the ECA. Rob is committed to advancing the ECA’s mandate of becoming a HUB of excellence and enhancing the construction culture in Edmonton by engaging the construction community at large. Playing a key role on the larger teams of such meaningful projects, delivered in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, mark significant milestones in his career.

As a Project Director with Ledcor Construction, Trevor can share the experiences he has amassed over a 20- year career with a younger generation of up-and-coming Trevor Messal construction leaders. He is responsible for providing Ledcor Construction leadership and guidance to project teams and offers Limited overall support with respect to branch safety, quality, and Project Director day-to-day business needs.

A NAIT graduate himself, Trevor is an advocate for and believes in giving back to the institute that gave him the head start he needed in the industry. He recently joined the NAIT Advisory Council for the Construction Engineering Technology program and looks forward to a lengthy and gratifying tenure.

Trevor’s interests in joining the ECA Board of Directors stem from the positive experiences he has enjoyed working in collaboration with owners and designers to help realize their vision for project success. He sees this as an opportunity to be a voice for the membership and help promote an open and collaborative industry.

When Trevor isn’t building projects, he’s building memories with his beautiful wife and three amazing children. They enjoy spending time outdoors, playing sports, or getting back to nature by hitching up their trailer and heading off camping.

As vice president and district manager of Edmonton Buildings, Jason is a natural leader with a talent for organizing teams to achieve a common goal. His strong understanding of the construction business comes from 25 years of experience in the industry. Jason’s responsibilities include oversight and strategic direction for PCL’s Edmonton Buildings district, and together with trade contractor partners, delivers construction excellence for clients and stakeholders.

Jason Portas Jason has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering PCL Management Inc. and a Master of Science in Construction Engineering Vice President and and Management, both from the University of Alberta. District Manager, Jason has advanced his career with PCL while working Edmonton Buildings in Edmonton, , and Winnipeg. Jason is a member of the APEGA, as a Professional Engineer and is a CCA Professional, Gold Seal Certified Project Manager.

Jason encourages the next generation of builders behind him through his various efforts involving mentorship and sponsorship, instilling the values of leadership, innovation, and ownership. Jason advocates building communities through strong relationships, delivering an exceptional construction experience in an environment of trust, collaboration, and belonging. Jason’s passion for building communities extends beyond his work with PCL, as he supports the United Way and the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

Jason will bring to the ECA Board a rich history in the construction industry and a willingness to advocate for the betterment of the professional community. Jason aims to work with the ECA teams to address the challenges faced by fellow industry members and to ensure the association continues to work in collaboration in a non- partisan manner to advance the Edmonton construction community.
