Martinus Dwi Marianto July 1995 ABSTRACT Surrealist painting flourished in Yogyakarta around the middle of the 1980s to early 1990s. It became popular amongst art students in Yogyakarta, and formed a significant style of painting which generally is characterised by the use of casual juxtapositions of disparate ideas and subjects resulting in absurd, startling, and sometimes disturbing images. In this thesis, Yogyakartan Surrealism is seen as the expression in painting of various social, cultural, and economic developments taking place rapidly and simultaneously in Yogyakarta's urban landscape. -
CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION A. Background of the Study Everyone
1 CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION A. Background of the study Everyone who has a relationship certainly wants to marry with her/his couple, to live together, to have children and new family. Marriage is the purpose for whoever wants to have better life than before, because they can live together with their soulmate in their life. Anthropologists have proposed several competing definitions of marriage in an attempt to encompass the wide variety of marital practices observed across cultures(Duran: 1997). Eva Illouz argues “that the 'love' (companionate) marriage emerged at the same time as the rise of capitalism in European and American society”.” 'Love' is not the raw emotion that Western representations make it out to be, but a cultural construction shaped by the social and economic conditions of modern industrial society”. “Industrialization weakened the ties between extended families, and made the nuclear family the norm” (Illuz: 1997). In some jurisdictions cohabitation may constitute a common-law marriage, and in some countries the laws recognize cohabitation in lieu of institutional marriage for taxation and social security benefits. This is the case, for example, in Australia. Common-law marriage is an option pursued by many as a form of resistance to traditional institutionalized marriage; however, in this context, states reserve the right to define the relationship as marital, based only on a history of co-habitation. Marriage laws refer to the legal requirements which determine the validity of a marriage, which vary considerably between countries (Nolo :2009). 1 2 Islam religion also commends to marriage, with the age of marriage being whenever the individuals feel ready, financially and emotionally. -

Goodfellow BA (hons) DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY 2003 Ul Synopsis The personal trauma associated with the intense violence that engulfed Indonesia between October and December 1965 is not enough to explain how an open and documented history of the killings was silenced for over 33 years. Likewise, the New Order government's political and military power to suppress competing historical accounts cannot fully elucidate this enduring silence. History is a story about who controls the means of historical consciousness as well as the production of narratives. Therefore, part of the answer of what enabled the forgetting of the Indonesian killings can be found in an examination of the Suharto regime's propaganda project. -

Indonesian Political Economy of Development and Lessons for Nigeria
International Journal of Management Studies and Social Science Research INDONESIAN POLITICAL ECONOMY OF DEVELOPMENT AND LESSONS FOR NIGERIA. 1. SUSAN DOOFAN ALBERT-MAKYUR (PhD Candidate) Department of Political Science & International Relations and Diplomacy, Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja, Nigeria. 2. PROF. SADEEQUE ABUBAKAR ABBA Department of Political Science & International Relations and Diplomacy, Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja, Nigeria. IJMSSSR 2020 VOLUME 2 ISSUE 5 SEPTEMBER – OCTOBER ISSN: 2582 - 0265 Abstract: The growth of any country is measured by the vibrant nature of its political economy. Indonesia is known to be among the largest and fastest growing economy in the world, both in economics, natural resources, geography, and demography. Indonesia has lived in different scenarios since its independence in 1949. From an authoritarian regime to its present state of free market and democratic system. Based on these variables, this paper examines, in brief, the most significant stages of the country’s post-colonial development, taking into cognisance the major events that transformed the economy of Indonesia, to comprehending the strength and weaknesses that led to its growth. Using the Economic Nationalism theory that, a country protects its own economy by reducing the number of imports and investments from other countries, the paper reveals that Indonesia have used her political and economic resources/initiatives to achieve development. Through secondary data such as journals, books and the internet, the paper will analyse Indonesia’s post-colonial challenges, such as the Asian financial crisis, and the Covid-19 pandemic. It will conclude on how Indonesia managed its political and economic crisis to attain tremendous growth and recommend that Nigeria should use her political and natural economic resources to modernize and pull her citizens out of poverty and reposition as a political and economical giant within Africa and the globe. -

It is understood that copying or publication of this thesis for financial gain shall not be allowed without my written permission. Department The University of British Columbia Vancouver 8, Canada i ABSTRACT This thesis applies the analytical concept of political culture to politics in the Indonesian context. The term "Javanization" is used to describe the process whereby ethnic Javanese and Javanized individuals gradually became the overwhelming and disproportionate majority of the governing elite in the post-independence era. It is further argued that the dominance in terms of numbers has led to the Javanization of Indonesian conceptions of state and limits of political behavior. The first chapter surveys other theories of Indonesian politics and makes a proposal for a cultural theory. The cultural cleavages in Indonesian society in the horizontal plane are described and a description of the government of Mataram operating in a totally Javanese environment is given. -
