SELECTION CRITERIA

Students will need to meet the relevant criteria in Table A and will be selected based on their achievements in following:

PAG Type of Instrument Pre-requisite Audition Requirements Played Band Woodwinds: Grade 5 in a woodwind/brass Two contrasting pieces flute, oboe, instrument preferred, OR (equivalent to Grade 5 saxophone, clarinet, standard) bassoon Band Member in Primary School with participation in Brass: SYF trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, euphonium Percussion: Mastery in various percussion Candidates are to xylophone, tubular techniques and rhythms demonstrate an array of bells, glockenspiel, percussion techniques and timpani, drum set, rhythms in minimum 3 Chinese drums minutes of performing time Piano Grade 6 in piano and string Two contrasting pieces instruments preferred AND (equivalent to Grade 6 String Instruments: standard) violin, viola, cello, Students must be willing to double bass learn a relevant instrument in the Band Chinese Bowed string: Attainment of Grade 3 in a Two contrasting pieces Orchestra banhu, gaohu, erhu, Chinese musical instrument (equivalent to Grade 3 zhonghu preferred standard)

Plucked string: liuqin, pipa, guzheng, yangqin, zhongruan

Winds: suona, dizi, sheng Percussion: Mastery in various percussion Candidates are to xylophone, tubular techniques and rhythms demonstrate an array of bells, glockenspiel, percussion techniques and timpani, drum set, rhythms in minimum 3 Chinese drums minutes of performing time Guzheng Attainment of Grade 3 in Two contrasting pieces Guzheng preferred (equivalent to Grade 3 standard) Piano Grade 6 in piano and string Two contrasting pieces instruments preferred AND (equivalent to Grade 6 String Instruments: standard) violin, viola, cello, Students must be willing to double bass learn a Chinese Orchestra Instrument

Choir Voice Grade 3 in voice, OR Two contrasting pieces (equivalent to Grade 3 Has sung in a choir standard) consecutively for at least 3 years Sight-reading test Piano Grade 6 in piano and string Two contrasting pieces instruments preferred, AND (equivalent to Grade 6 String Instruments: standard) violin, viola, cello, Students must be willing to double bass sing in the choir. Pianists Sight-reading test must be willing to play the piano for the choir or conduct where required.
