Dr. John A. Provost, Ed.D. Superintendent Northampton High School is a 4-year, public secon- dary school located in the city of Northampton, Massa- Bryan Lombardi chusetts. Northampton is a middle income, residential Principal city with a rich cultural life, located in the Connecticut Celeste Malvezzi River Valley, twenty miles north of Springfield, Massa- Associate Principal chusetts. Be- cause of this we offer a number of other senior learning opportunities, in- cluding off-site intern- ships, teaching assistant- ships in some of our classes, and work study. Approximately 89% of graduates continue their education, based on a sur- vey of the Class of 2017.

A student typically earns 8 credits each year. Generally, a student schedule includes two to three core subjects and one or two electives each semester. All courses are college preparatory unless designated as Honors, Advanced Placement, or Developmental. A total of 28 credits are required for graduation, including 4 credits of English, 3 credits each of Social Studies, Mathematics and Sciences, and 1 credit of Wellness. An additional 2 credits must be earned from either Math, Science, Social Studies, English, or World Language.

AP courses are offered in English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, US History, European History, Psychology, Microeconomics, Calculus, Statistics, Spanish Language, and French Language. AP Biology is not offered in academic year 2017-18. All students entering Northamp- ton High School in the school year 2016-17 will progress through a three-semester Integrated Math curriculum that is aligned with the Mass Curriculum Framework for Mathematics.

Honors level courses are offered in English 2, Chemistry, World History 2, Integrated Math 2 (starting in 2015-16), Integrated Math 3, PreCalculus, Spanish 4, French 4, Latin 4, and Advanced Art.

Dual Enrollment and Smith College: Qualifying juniors and seniors may take courses at area community colleges or at Smith College. Students who take courses at the community colleges are considered dual-enrolled, and will receive college credit. Students taking courses at Smith College are not matriculated at the college and will not receive college credit. Smith College grades are reported to the high school, and are entered on the Northampton High School transcript; students receive high school credit for these courses.

Northampton High School uses Naviance to submit school documents whenever possible.

GRADE POINT AVERAGE GRADING

NumericalGrade Grade Points An unweighted grade point average is computed for the Class of 2017. With the exception of Developmental 94 – 100 (A) 4.0 courses, all graded courses are included in the calculation 90 – 93 (A-) 3.7 (Pass/Fail courses are not included). Numerical grades are 87 – 89 (B+) 3.3 used. A student’s grade point average is calculated at the end of junior year, at the end of first semester senior year, 84 – 86 (B) 3.0 and at the end of senior year.
