I had to negotiate with the rapacious taxi drivers to take us to the Otrar hotel was booked ready for us, and Julia from the local agents office, phoned soon after to let us know the day’s plan. This allowed us two hours rest before breakfast. At 10am Julia introduced us to Anna and Yerken and we drove with driver Yerlan two hours (80km) north out of town to Lake Kapchagai by the dam on the Ili River. Starting from the rather dilapidated industrial scene and negotiating a crossing of the main road with two imposing policeman we started on the west side of the road. Almost immediately we saw Tulipa kolpakowskiana in flower and our first Ixiolirion tartaricum. Further up the bank we found wonderful specimens of Tulipa albertii, although many flowers had already gone over as spring apparently was unusually advanced. Our tally of Tulips was increased by Tulipa buhsiana but not in flower. -

Tulips of the Tien Shan A Greentours Itinerary Days 1 & 2 Kapchagai After our overnight flight from the UK one can relax in the hotel or start in the sands of the Kapchagai where we’ll have our first meeting with the wonderful bulbous flora of the Central Asian steppes. Tulips soon start appearing, here are four species, and all must be seen today as they do not occur in the other parts of Kazakhstan we visit during the tour! These special species include a lovely yellow form of Tulipa albertii which blooms amidst a carpet of white blossomed Spiraea hypericifolia subshrubs. Elegant Eremurus crispus can be seen with sumptuous red Tulipa behmiana, often in company with pale Gagea ova, abundant Gagea minutiflora and local Gagea tenera. There are myriad flowers as the summer sun will not yet have burnt the sands dry. Low growing shrubs of Cerasus tianshanicus, their pale and deep pink blooms perfuming the air, shelter Rindera cyclodonta and Corydalis karelinii. In the open sandy areas we’ll look for Iris tenuifolia and both Tulipa talievii and the yellow-centred white stars of Tulipa buhseana. We’ll visit a canyon where we can take our picnic between patches of Tulipa lemmersii, a newly described and very beautiful tulip. First described in 2008 and named after Wim Lemmers, this extremely local endemic grows only on the west-facing rocks on the top of this canyon! Day 3 The Kordoi Pass and Merke After a night's sleep in the Hotel Almaty we will wake to find the immense snow- covered peaks of the Tien Shan rising from the edge of Almaty's skyline - a truly magnificent sight! We journey westwards and will soon be amongst the montane steppe of the Kordoi Pass where we will find one of the finest shows of spring flowers one could wish for. -

Tato práce se zaměřila na analýzu ploidie vzorků vybraných populací uvedeného okruhu pomocí průtokové cytometrie a současně jejich morfometrické studium. Pro všechny studované populace v literatuře uváděné jako G. bohemica subsp. bohemica byl zjištěn pentaploidní cytotyp (2n = 5x = 60), pro většinu populací G. szovitsii pak poprvé tetraploidní cytotyp (2n = 4x = 48). Avšak u jedné populace, přiřazované k tomuto taxonu, byly všechny analyzované rostliny pentaploidní, u dalšího jednoho vzorku populace sice převládli tetraploidi, s výjimkou jedné rostliny, která byla rovněž pentaploidní. Výsledky opakované analýzy rostlin, řazených ke G. bohemica subsp. saxatilis (Senička, Olomoucko, Česká republika), ukazují na tetraploidní cytotyp. Morfometrická analýza studovala i dříve používané znaky pro determinaci taxonů, nicméně jen některé z nich se ukázaly jako charakteristické pro udávaný taxon (počet květů a délka lodyhy, tvar okvětních lístků). Ovules of G. villosa are of anatropous, bitegmic and tenuinucellate type. Inner integument forms the micropyle. Embryo sac development is of bisporic Endymion type. Polar nuclei fuse before fertilization to form a secondary nucleus near the antipodals. Key words Gagea villosa, Liliaceae, Megasporogenesis, Megagametogenesis. The Liliaceae family is represented by approximately 250 genera and 3,500 species in the world. 36 genera and 461 species of them are found in Turkey. It is a cosmopolitan family. It shows more natural distribution in tropical and temperate regions. This family includes both medicinal and important ornamental plants. There are 26 species of the genus Gagea in Turkey (Zarrei et al. 2007). Gagea villosa is distributed through Turkey, Europe, North Africa, the Crimea, the Caucasus, Iran, and Palestine. In this study, detailed morphological investigation on the pollen of two Turkish Gagea species (G. glacialis and G. fibrosa) was carried out under light microscope and SEM. Pollen grain microphotographs of examined taxa have been taken from preparates which were made by Wodehouse and Erdtman techniques in LM. According to this analysis, Pollen ornemantetion of investigated taxa are identified as reticulate for Gagea glacialis, microreticulate for G. fibrosa. For G. glacialis mono sulcate, subprolate P/E= 0.76 (W), 0.8 (E), Exine 1.3 µm (W), 1.366 µm (E). For G. fibrosa, pollen grains measured as mono sulcate, subprolate P/E= 0.78 (W), 0.73 (E), Exine 1.316 µm (W), 1.25 µm (E). 1. Introduction The Gagea Salisb. which contains about 320 species is one of the genera from Liliaceae. Gagea is bigger family and it’s taxa distributes many areas in Europe, Asia and North Africa [1, 11]. Also many of these Gagea taxa have natural distribution in Turkey. With recent taxonomic studies, the number of Gagea taxa in the flora of Turkey were reached to 31. Four of these are endemic to Turkey and they do not identified any other country yet [5, 15]. -

Following systematic Jibou Botanical Garden, investigations undertaken in the botanical garden a large number of spontaneous flora, spontaneous taxons were found from the Romanian flora (650 species of adventive and vascular plants and 20 species of moss). Also were inventoried 38 species of subspontaneous plants, adventive plants, permanently established in Romania and 176 vascular plant floristic analysis, Romania species that have migrated from culture and multiply by themselves throughout the garden. In the garden greenhouses were found 183 subspontaneous species and weeds, both from the Romanian flora as well as tropical plants introduced by accident. Thus the total number of wild species rises to 1055, a large number compared to the occupied area. Some rare spontaneous plants and endemic to the Romanian flora (Galium abaujense, Cephalaria radiata, Crocus banaticus) were found. Cultivated species that once migrated from culture, accommodated to environmental conditions and conquered new territories; standing out is the Cyrtomium falcatum fern, once escaped from the greenhouses it continues to develop on their outer walls. Jibou Botanical Garden is the second largest exotic species can adapt and breed further without any botanical garden in Romania, after "Anastasie Fătu" care [11]. -

A. Schultes and J. H. Schultes (= G. amblyopetala Boiss. and Heldr.; 2n = 36), G. foliosa (J. and C. Presl) J.A. and J.H. Schultes (2n = 36), G. bohemica (Zauschner) J.A. and J.H. Schultes var. saxatilis (Mert. and Koch.) Fiori (2n = 48), G. granatellii (Parl.) Parl. (2n = 36). All the studied populations come from Northern Calabria. Karyotype analysis is carried out for G. chrysantha and G. foliosa (both studied for the first time) and for G. bohemica.
