    HOTEL „Vodka“ bedeutet aus dem Russischen übersetzt „klei- nes Wässerchen“. Ausgangstoff e sind fast alle vergär- baren organischen Materialien wie Getreide, Kartoff el oder Melasse, dazu kommt Hefe, Wasser und eine De- stillationsanlage. Reifung gibt es offi ziell nicht, Lage- rung nur selten. Weizen, Gerste, Roggen oder Kartoff eln, Trauben, Me- lasse? In den Heimatländern des Vodkas, Polen, Russ- land, Schweden oder Finnland, war der Anspruch an Vodka immer ein anderer. Die Spirituose sollte gleich- zeitig ein sehr feines Destillat sein und doch den Cha- rakter ihres Getreides zeigen: Weizen in Schweden und Russland, Gerste in Finnland und Roggen in Po- len. Hier sind schon die ersten Unterschiede zu fi n- den: Getreidesorten wie Weizen, Roggen, Gerste un- terscheiden sich in ihrem Geschmack schon deutlich, wenngleich fein. Kartoff eln, Trauben und Melasse so- gar noch mehr. Die Wasserqualität der einzelnen Herstellungsorte ist ebenfalls ein wichtiger Aspekt, schon während der Herstellung, als auch am Ende, zur Verdünnung auf Trinkstärke. Immerhin sind ca. 60 % des Flascheninhal- tes Wasser. All das kommt also zusammen, wenn man von einem sehr guten Vodka spricht, der nicht nur im Cocktail, sondern auch pur einen Genuss darstellt. Schaut man sich das Etikett auf einer Vodkafl asche an, fi ndet man oft einen ersten Hinweis auf die Zu- sammensetzung der jeweiligen Marke: Made of 100 % Rye ist zum Beispiel auf vielen polnischen Vodkas vermerkt, Made of 100 % Grain oder Grain Neutral Spi- rit fi ndet sich auf vielen russischen oder osteuropäi- schen, ja sogar mongolischen Vodkas auf dem Etikett. Finnischer Vodka wirbt mit seiner verwendeten Gers- te, schwedischer Vodka mit dem Winterweizen und einige französische Sorten bewerben, neben Weizen, die Traube als Grundmaterial.
