July 2020 | Volume 59 | Issue 7 A Monthly Publication of Methodist Village Senior Living FROM THE DESK OF OUR CEO... Dear Residents, Families, Friends, Volunteers: July is my very FAVORITE month!!! So many wonderful things happen in July! MY birthday, my daughter?s birthday, my daughter in laws birthday, one of my dearest friends? birthday? but the most important is our Country?s Birthday! July 4th ? Independence Day! The day we celebrate the birth of American Independence. Even with so many uncertainties going on in our country right now to tear us apart, we are ALL Americans. Let us celebrate the wonderful things that we have overcome! In 1776, 13 colonies claimed their independence from England, an event which eventually led to the formation of the United States. In 1865 slavery was abolished in America with adoption of the 13th Amendment? Ensuring that ?neither slavery nor involuntary servitude shall exit within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction?. In 1933 the Great Depression ended. This was the worst economic downturn in the history of the world. When the stock market crashed Wall Street went into a panic and wiped out millions of investors. In 2001 Islamic extremist group al Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. All these events were either tragic or had much tragedy before being established. We ARE the United States of America and we will come together as one. Working together to overcome.Let us remember we are brothers and sister. As my daughter use to say as a little girl? ? God made all of us, He just used different types of dirt to create us?. Let us pray for one another, pray for peace and healing in our Country! Happy JULY!!!! Warmest Regards, Melissa Curry, CEO MVSL Mission To provide wonderful life experiences that enable our residents and their families to lead full and enriching lives. MVSL Vision To exceed the expectations of our residents and families while inspiring hearts and minds. A CHAT WITH CHAPLAIN MAX GOINS How are things "Working" for you? "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28 We have all had our lives disturbed and disjointed by a virus and social distancing over the past five months. It does not seem that it will get better soon. However, I have found that God has helped me adjust to present situations and given me fresh ideas about how to do my job and live my life. Please allow me to share with you a recent illustration from our family life. Last week our number two granddaughter got married. The wedding had been planned for some time and was to be held in a public venue in Siloam Springs. Enter Coronavirus, and all plans went out the window. It could not be held at the scheduled venue. Our granddaughter and her fiancee were both recent graduates of John Brown University and had become close with a professor and his wife. When they heard of the cancellation, they graciously offered their lovely backyard for the ceremony. One of the major problems with the limited number of friends and family who could attend the wedding because of social distancing. A wonderful thing took place. Someone took a television studio (a phone) out of their pocket and broadcast the ceremony and reception live. It was not long before the numbers of people who attended the wedding via the live broadcast began to skyrocket. Nearly five thousand people have watched a dance from the reception via Facebook. Something bad, social distancing, was turned into a great blessing by powers beyond our control. How is God using the situation today making wonderful and marvelous experiences in our lives that we will long remember? Have you pursued technology and learned to have virtual visits with people-maybe some so far away that you wouldn't have gotten to visit even before Coronavirus was around? Have you gotten to "travel" to events using your phone, computer, or iPad while still sleeping in your own bed at night? Maybe you've built a new relationship with someone in person because of extra time. During these difficult times, be looking for was that God is working for good in your life!
