Stadler Rail Group

History Stadler Engineering was founded 1942 in Zürich and started in 1945 locomotive production. First assembly works was constructed 1962 in Bussnang. In 1976 the company was renamed to Stadler Vehicles AG and in 1984 the production of passenger rail vehicles commenced. 1995 the first GTW 2/6 was presented. 1997 Stadler took over Schindler Works and founded Stadler Altenrhein AG. 1999 Stadler Pankow GmbH was founded as a joint-venture with . Two years later Stadler owned 100% of the company. 2001 a new assembly plant and head offices in Bussnang were constructed and 2004 a third assembly plant was opened there. 2005 Stadler Weiden GmbH was founded and the same year Winpro AG (repair and maintenance works) in was taken over (later renamed to Stadler Winterthur). In 2006 Stadler was established and in 2006 Stadler .

Product range Stadler Rail Group is focusing on the regional and suburban service market segment , the light regional express railway service and streetcars. The company has positioned itself as a supplier complementing the global rail vehicle builders such as Bombardier, and Siemens. FLIRT – Fast Light Innovative Regional Train – EMU trains for the inter-regional and regional express railway market GTW DMU trains Streetcars – Tango and Variobahn Rack-and-pinion vehicles Stadler has also, over the last few years, invested in the development of a double-decker train.

Production and maintenance sites Bussnang – competence centre for FLIRT, GTW, rack railways and diesel-electric locomotives; marketing centre for Switzerland; global responsibility for projects. Altenrhein – previously the production site of Schindler Waggon taken over 1997; centre of competence for passenger carriages with focus on the development of mechanical vehicle concept such as carbody structures for the Stadler Rail Group Winterthur – formerly WINPRO AG, now focusing on 24 hour on-site service of comfort sub-systems such as air conditioning , doors etc; revisions, repairs and refit (from locomotive revisions to damage corrective maintenance or complete refitting solutions); 2 axled diesel and diesel-electric locomotive and bogie production –FLIRT and diesel-powered Regio-Shuttle and streetcars (Tango and Variobahn); marketing centre for Germany Velten – service and modernization site Weiden – previously the location of PFA Partner für Fahrzeugausstattung, today concentrating on maintenance but plans for constructing new vehicles

Hungary Budapest – subsidiary offering support to 1) implementation of contract for delivery of FLIRT railcars to MAV - Hungarian Railways – as to purchasing and final assembly 2) setting up maintenance site in Pusztaszabolcs (50 km south of Budapest) 3) market development

Market presence The company´s flagship FLIRT has been a real success on the international market.

Stadler has so far been awarded contracts on 325 FLIRT trains from operators in Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, , Poland and (see summary enclosed). To date more than 75 FLIRTs are successfully operating in Switzerland and Germany

Stadler has been very successful both in Poland and Hungary with their FLIRT trains. That’s why they are now opening assembly and maintenance units there.

Last autumn 32 FLIRTs were ordered for Helsinki suburban railway.

The company also got an order in 2006 for 64 FLIRTs to Algiers.

Recently orders on totally 24 sets of the 4th generation GTW 2/6 and 2/8 trains (order value appr. 80 million Euro) were received from Veolia Transport Nederland. In 2005 operator Arriva ordered 43 articulated railcars for the .

Rollout of first GTW 2/6 EMUs out of six ordered by Capital Metro of Austin, Texas (order value 32,5 MUSD), will soon take place. Stadler has an option for 12 more trains.

The first of four 3-car DMUs of rack-and-pinion type (750 mm gauge; with six bogies, whereof two with traction motors, two with powered rack equipment and two non-powered) will soon be outshopped from Bussnang factory to . Stadler is world-leader of this type of vehicles.
