Part III Unique Preliminaries & Main Practice 1. Generation of Innate Kalachakra To practice the generation of Innate Kalachakra unique preliminary practice for the Completion Kalachakra Six Yogas, remind yourself that all deceptive conventional existence is empty and never inherently existed. i. Meditation on Emptiness OM SHUNYATA JNANA VAJRA SVABHAVA ATMAKO HUNG All temporary relative existence dissolves into emptiness. Remain in this state for a few seconds. ii. Self-Generation Concentrating on the absence of all deceptive conventional aggregates, forms and arisings, from this state I instantly generate myself as the absolute, pure, empty-form of Innate Kalachakra. From his primordial divine mind, Kalachakra stands on a mandala formed of the four foundation elements. In the centre of the mandala is Mount Meru, with a summit larger than the base. On top of this sits a lotus flower, sun, moon, Rahu and Kalagni. Without any sense of my mundane self, I generate myself as the divine Kalachakra deity, blue in colour, transcending the avadhuti (central channel). One face signifies the oneness of the absolute truth, two arms represent the two aspects of limitless joy and emptiness, and three eyes exhibit direct awareness of all 1 phenomena of the three times. The hands are crossed at the chest demonstrating inseparable union. In the right hand is a vajra, an expression of the skilful method of great bliss. In the left hand, the ultimate wisdom of empty-form appears as a bell. The neck has three colours: the middle is black, the right is red and the left is white, representing the elimination of tamas, raja and sattva respectively. Two legs transcend the two extremes of samsara and nirvana. The left leg is white and slightly bent, conquering the left channel. It tramples on the heart of the powerful god of creation who is white in colour and has one face. He lies unconscious on his back. The right leg, which is red, is extended. It tramples on the heart of the red desire god, conquering the four gross and subtle maras. The head is adorned with a top knot and crown garland with wish fulfilling jewels. A crescent moon ornament is placed to the left side of the crown signifying immutable bliss. Long braided locks fall from behind the top knot. A double vajra sits upright in front of the top knot signifying the four enlightened activities. Kalachakra is adorned with the five-pronged vajra ornaments symbolising permanent ecstasy. He is decorated with earrings, necklaces, bracelets, belt and anklets made of the most beautiful and fine diamond vajras. A mala, also made of the finest diamond vajras, together with a closely entwined scarf drapes around his form. He wears a tiger skin draped around his lower body as a symbol that pride has been completely eradicated. He has five coloured fingers: a yellow thumb, white index finger, red middle finger, black ring finger and a green little finger overcoming the five qualities of the moon (left channel), and attaining the five wisdoms. From the palm upward the first finger joint is black, the second is red, and the third is white conquering the three qualities of the sun (right channel), and attaining indestructible body, speech and mind. On the crown is blue Vajrasattva from the Vajra family, emanating as an ornament. The ornament signifies that I will unveil my own Kalachakra primordial nature in the future. Kalachakra radiates a five coloured light out by one body length, and from the end of the light a five coloured fire radiates out limitlessly. Top and bottom teeth, appearing as fangs, come together in a half bite. Three eyes with a red tinge fuse rage and passion, signifying inherent non-dualistic compassion and great bliss. Reality is the embodiment of the method of non-dualistic compassion as immutable bliss. 2 Kalachakra stands embracing his consort Vishvamata. She has one face and three eyes, and her body is of a luminous golden yellow hue. She holds a curved knife in her right hand with her right arm gently resting around Kalachakra’s neck. In her left hand is a skull cup full of divine nectar which she delights in offering, as she embraces Kalachakra. With her right leg bent and her left leg extended, she is in a standing pose joined with her consort. Her crown chakra is adorned with a bone ornamental wheel; her earrings, necklaces, armlets, bracelets, anklets and rings are all made of the finest bone. A delicate belt also made of bone gently hangs around her waist enhancing the other ornaments. Half of her hair is arranged in a top knot while the rest falls loosely down her back. Vishvamata symbolises all excellent aspects of emptiness. Kalachakra and Vishvamata Yab-yum has a white OM (???) syllable at the forehead overcoming the element of water and manifesting as the embodiment of the Amitabha Buddha family. At their throat is a red AH (???) syllable overcoming the element of fire and manifesting as the indestructible speech of the Ratnasambhava Buddha family. At their heart is a black HUNG (????) syllable overcoming the element of wind and manifesting as the indestructible primordial mind manifested by the Amoghasiddhi Buddha family. At their navel is a yellow HO (???) syllable overcoming the element of earth and manifesting as the indestructible primordial wisdom of the Vairochana Buddha family. At their secret place is a blue SVA (??) syllable overcoming the primordial consciousness element and manifesting as the indestructible primordial wisdom manifested by the Vajrasattva Buddha family. At their crown is a green HA (?) syllable overcoming the element of space and manifesting as the Akshobya Buddha Family. Seeing oneself as Kalachakra Yab-yum, six-coloured light radiates limitlessly from the six syllables. It illuminates all universes and instantaneously transforms into a pure Kalachakra mandala. The light radiates to all sentient beings transforming them into enlightened deities. Remain with this pure perception. Keep the mind focused single-pointedly upon this visualisation for as long as you like. If you are able, use as many different forms of the traditional instruction (Unveiling Your Sacred Truth) as possible. Enlightening the Heart offers the minimum instruction required, however is suitable for ongoing practice. iii. Mantra Recitation The main focus now is to hold in your mind the pure Kalachakra mandala universe and have a sense of all beings as Kalachakra deities. This is not an external practice; remind yourself that you are uncovering your primordial nature through Kalachakra. Once your resolve is strong, recite the mantra. 3 OM HAKSHA MALA VARA YANG (SVAHA) Visualise and recite the mantra as much as you can. iv. Dissolution This field of mandala dissolves into Kalachakra ab-yumY from the edge; the union dissolves from the edge into the syllable HUNG at the centre of your heart, HUNG dissolves from its base to the top, all form disappears and merges into empty space. Dissolve the Kalachakra enlightened mandala field from the edge to the central deity (yourself as Kalachakra Yab-yum). Dissolve yourself from the edge to the HUNG syllable at the centre of your heart. The HUNG syllable dissolves from the bottom to the top and then disappears.
