VOLBEAT Intl Biog 7 2010
Release 13 September 2010, Vertigo Volbeat are sick and tired of music purists wagging their finger at them. They refuse to be confined to the pigeonhole of a specific genre but throw off all fetters intended to keep them on the ground. In the past four years, this thoroughly honest attitude has made the four musicians from Denmark one of the hottest acts on the rock scene. Sold-out venues everywhere, celebrated festival appearances at the Rock am Ring festival, during the Sonisphere Festival Tour, and opening for Metallica and AC/DC – and now they’re about to release their latest album “Beyond Hell/Above Heaven”. 13 September will see the arrival of the 13-track recording, and as they did on their previous four releases, the band has succeeded again in combing the sound of the Fifties with that metal flair. If you were to draw a picture of Volbeat’s sound, it would feature Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and Metallica – all of them peacefully united, cool drink in hand. “Beyond Hell/Above Heaven” is a perfect mix of heavy riffs, country coolness and rockabilly hip swing. The result makes not only the heart of a headbanger, but also that of a quiff wearer beat faster. Fans of anthemnic oeuvres are likely to press the Repeat button to listen to “Fallen” again, those more into quiet sounds will love “Heaven Nor Hell”, while up-tempo buffs will get down to business listening to “A Warrior's Call”. To cut a long story short: Volbeat have refined their highly original mix of passionate riffs and haunting melodies even more, getting straight to the point. -

GRACE POTTER &THE NOCTURNALS LAUNCH VAULTURNAL: HIGH-QUALITY LIVE RECORDINGS FROM THE BAND’S VAST ARCHIVES FIRST RELEASE IS A COMPLETE HEADLINING SHOW RECORDED AT TANGLEWOOD (LOS ANGELES - Nov. 25, 2014) Critically acclaimed rock band and touring powerhouse Grace Potter & the Nocturnals have announced the launch of Vaulturnal. Vaulturnal will offer fans fully mixed and mastered soundboard recordings of live performances from the band’s ever-growing live archives. Initially, GPN plans to release several shows per year as high-quality digital downloads and on compact disc. “We’ve been talking for a long time about launching a live site for fans to access our music, and we have a fanbase that really does feed off the live-music experience,” Grace says of her band’s motivation for undertaking this ongoing project. GPN drummer and co-founder Matt Burr added, “We’re excited to handpick shows that we’re really passionate about and get them out there.” The flagship release, now available at http://www.vaulturnal.com, documents in full the band’s show at the Koussevitsky Music Shed in the famed Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, MA, on the night of Aug. 19, 2013. The performance was “a barn-burner from start to finish,” according to Grace, comprising selections from each of the band’s albums, including spirited takes on fan favorites like “Medicine,” “Apologies,” “Stars,” “Paris (Ooh La La)”, and the 22-song set also features three covers — an acoustic interpretation of the Junior Parker-penned Elvis classic “Mystery Train”; Heart’s “Crazy On You,” a frequently performed crowd- pleaser during the tour; and a one-off work-up of Pink Floyd’s “Time,” which took shape spontaneously in the middle of show closer “The Lion The Beast The Beat.” As for future releases, the possibilities are endless, according to Grace. -

Apex Predator – Easy Meat”
“Apex Predator – Easy Meat” Ltd. Mediabook CD, CD, LP, MC, Boxset, Digital Download European street date: January 26th, 2015 Art reflects life. Extreme times demand extreme responses. Silence sucks. Noise is always the answer. And yes, NAPALM DEATH continue to be one of the few bands on this planet that adhere to all these principles and more. For the last three decades, their name as been synonymous with heavy music taken to the extreme – music that confronts, confounds and eviscerates in equal measure. NAPALM DEATH’s enduring impact on the world of sonic savagery began in earnest in the late 80s, when the band’s first two albums – 1987’s Scum and its 1988 follow-up From Enslavement To Obliteration – refined and redefined the notion of brutality and velocity in the worlds of punk, hardcore and metal. Endorsed by legendary and much-missed DJ John Peel, the Brummie grindcore pioneers were such an exhilarating and yet alien dose of jolting adrenaline that even the mainstream media were forced to prick up their ears and take note. Throw in the fact that NAPALM DEATH were – and still are – driven by a ferocious intelligence and a genuine desire to make the world a better place through the promotion of rational thought and respect for all fellow humans, they stood apart from the often nihilistic and intellectually bankrupt underground metal scene and have re- mained unique and unerring ever since. While grind purists may point to those earliest records as evidence of the band’s signifi- cance, it is the tireless and terrorising exploits of the now classic line-up of vocalist Mark ‘Barney’ Greenway, bassist Shane Embury, guitarist Mitch Harris and drummer Danny Herrera that have cemented NAPALM DEATH’s status as extreme music leg- ends. -

Nós queremos preservar a história! A história subterrânea, marginalizada e deturpada - a história de pessoas e suas ideias, e suas ideologias... a história de movimentos que usaram a “música” como plataforma para discursos humanitários, antiguerra, críticos, anarquistas, antifascistas e etc... Affective Intensities In, and Between, Australia's and Japan's Grindcore Scenes
SCHOOL OF CULTURE AND COMMUNICATION / THE ASIA INSTITUTE THE UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE Brutal Belonging: affective intensities in, and between, Australia’s and Japan’s grindcore scenes Submitted in total fulfilment of the requirement of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Rosemary Therese Overell 5/27/2012 THESIS ABSTRACT This thesis examines the experience of affective belonging in the grindcore music scene. Presenting an ethnography of how scene-members in Australia and Japan participate in grindcore, my thesis shows the experience of affective belonging in three ways: spatially, socially and through the transnational exchanges between both scenes. My thesis formulates the concept of ‘brutal belonging’ as a metaphor for the intense, sometimes violent, sensation(s) of affective belonging in grindcore, to argue that fans experience belonging via shared affective intensities rather than scenic signifiers. My thesis focuses on how grindcore metal music scene-members in Australia and Japan experience belonging affectively. 2 DECLARATION This is to certify that the thesis comprises only my original work towards the PhD except where indicated in the Preface, due acknowledgement has been made in the text to all other material used, the thesis is fewer than 100,000 words in length, exclusive of tables, maps, bibliographies and appendices or the thesis is 94,527 words as approved by the RHD Committee.
