Joint initiatives and campaigns take place for both workforce and passenger safety. Joint working on reducing train accident risk Alliance safety performance is reviewed jointly every week and formally every period. 11 Safety in the Scotrail Alliance Everyone home safe every single day Our aim is to ensure that all 7,500 employees, our customers, our contractors, the public and our partners go home safe every single day. How will we do this? We get the basics right by having solid foundations for Health & Safety. We look for our leaders to be role models in positive safety behaviours as this will impact on safety values, beliefs and attitudes - We regularly engage with and listen to our employees on safety issues taking action and giving feedback direct. We implement a program of activities to engage with employees to create an open and honest safety culture where we are comfortable to challenge and praise each others behaviour. We are looking for Everyone to take action by focussing our campaign on: Life and health Personal responsibility and Accountability You are my brother & sister’s keeper 12 Shadow of the Leader Strong 'Safety Leadership' creates and maintains positive safety perceptions among the entire workforce. This motivates people to behave safely, so that a collective commitment to 'safe working' becomes the norm. Safety Tour process has been revised to focus on good quality safety conversations focussed on safety behaviours and recognising good practice. • 7 simple steps to follow • Key message – Becoming safer one conversation at a time 13 Our Approach - Safety Conversations Despite the Railway being seen as a “high risk“ industry the majority of accidents occur during high frequency low risk tasks. It has been shown that one of the ways to maintain safety alertness during high frequency low risk tasks is through feedback / safety conversations. Safety conversations re-enforce positive behaviours and maintain alertness as well as demonstrate others taking an interest in your welfare.” They connect peoples behaviours with the things that most important to them i.e. the Health and Wellbeing of themselves and their families. 14 Safety Conversations Encourage development of safety culture of Scotrail Alliance through safety conversations / safety leadership at all levels Volunteers from across the Scotrail alliance at all levels of the organisation.
