In memory of my father, the Reverend E D Morgan who preserved a treasure. iii ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS With grateful thanks for the generous support of: North America Wales Foundation (Dr Philip Davies and Hefina Phillips) Welsh Women’s Clubs of America (Barbara Crysler) Welsh Society of Philadelphia (Jack R. Williams, Jr.) Diolch o galon: for the experience and guidance of my supervisors, Professor Menna Elfyn and Dr Jeni Williams, for the friendship and encouragement of Karen Rice, for my siblings always, Nest ac Arwel, for the love and steadfast support of Lisa E Hopkins, and for the unconditional love of my mother, Thelma Morgan. Diolch am fod yn gefn. iv Abstract The desire to recognise the richness, humanity, and cross fertilisation of cultures and identities that built today’s America is the starting point for Braids of Song. Its overarching concerns trace the interrelation between immigration, identity and creativity within a Welsh Trans-Atlantic context. Braids of Song is a mixed-genre collection of stories that acknowledges the preciousness of culture; in particular, the music, which is both able to cross different linguistic boundaries and to breach those between melody and language itself. The stories are shared through four intertwined narrative strands in a mixture of literary styles, ranging from creative non-fiction essays and poems to dramatic monologues.

Benefice Profile for Tredegar, Rhymney & Abertysswg The Church in Wales Yr Eglwys yng Nghymru The Diocese of Monmouth The Benefice of Tredegar, Rhymney & Abertysswg Benefice Profile December 2019 1 Benefice Profile for Tredegar, Rhymney & Abertysswg From the Archdeacon of the Gwent Valleys The Venerable Sue Pinnington Thank you for taking the time to look at this profile for the post of Team Rector (Ministry Area Leader designate) of Tredegar, Rhymney and Abertysswg. This new benefice (Ministry Area) offers an exciting opportunity to develop collaborative ministry and mission. The parishes are growing closer together, realising the benefits of sharing resources, skills and the desire to grow spiritually and numerically. They would like to extend their existing mission and should the Diocesan Bid to the Church in Wales Evangelism Fund be successful, more financial support for mission will be heading to the Valleys. The Benefice has an excellent NSM Associate Minister in Elizabeth Jones and lay ministers, who are very much looking forward to working in the newly created team. The Diocese had committed to funding a 0.5 fte post of Team Vicar to serve the whole benefice, but to live in the parsonage at Rhymney. We expect the new Team Rector (TR) to take a full part in this appointment and we hope to advertise swiftly following the TR’s licensing. However, this post is not without its challenges. These are the same challenges faced by the whole of the Archdeaconry, which covers the eastern post-industrial valleys of South Wales. All our communities face issues relating to poverty and deprivation, but we work hard together to address and tackle these issues.

Amen. A reading from the book of Exodus. The whole congregation of the Israelites complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. The Israelites said to them, ‘If only we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the fleshpots and ate our fill of bread; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.’ Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘I am going to rain bread from heaven for you, and each day the people shall go out and gather enough for that day. In that way I will test them, whether they will follow my instruction or not.’ Then Moses said to Aaron, ‘Say to the whole congregation of the Israelites, “Draw near to the LORD, for he has heard your complaining.” ’ And as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the Israelites, they looked towards the wilderness, and the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

Fe welwch o'r adroddiad fod hon wedi bod yn flwyddyn anarferol oherwydd pandemig Covid 19 a olygodd fod yn rhaid i ysgolion gau o fis Mawrth i fis Gorffennaf. Oherwydd hyn, daeth tymor yr Haf â gofynion a heriau newydd nad ydym erioed wedi gorfod eu hwynebu o'r blaen. Yn dilyn cyhoeddiad bod rhaid cael cyfnod clo o Fawrth yr 20fed, cafodd cymuned yr ysgol gyfan ei gwthio'n sydyn i fyd dieithr iawn. Roedd yn rhaid i staff a disgyblion addasu'n gyflym i ffordd newydd o ddysgu, a dyma ddechrau ar sefydlu dysgu cyfunol gan staff. Roedd hyn yn glod i bob aelod o staff gan eu bod yn sicrhau bod gofal a chymorth ar gael i bob dysgwr.

  • ABERYSTWYTH DIGITAL HERITAGE WALK the Women's Heritage Walk Has Been Developed As Part of the Women's Archive of Wales '
ABERYSTWYTH DIGITAL HERITAGE WALK The Women’s Heritage Walk has been developed as part of the Women’s Archive of Wales ‘Century of Hope Project’, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project marks the centenary of some women getting the right to vote in parliamentary elections, and this walk draws attention to some of the remarkable women who have lived in Aberystwyth during the last two hundred years, and to the man who contributed powerfully to the campaign for the vote. The information in this booklet gives a very brief account of their achievements, but we hope that – especially for the less well known – it will lead to more interest in them. Length of walk: approximately 90 minutes. Ability level: this walk should be accessible to all levels of ability. Route: Ceredigion Museum, Pier Street, Old College, Vulcan Street, Chalybeate Street, Portland Street, Alexandra Hall, The Prom, the Coliseum Theatre and Cinema, Ceredigion Museum.
