The crash initiated panic within UK Oil and Gas industry, demanding grounding of the Super Puma fleet of helicopters. Four people died when the CHC Super Puma crashed on approach to Sumburgh Airport on 23 August 2013. 1 All Super Puma helicopter passenger flights to UK oil installations were suspended after a crash off Shetland claimed the lives of four people. The Helicopter Safety Steering Group (HSSG) had advised grounding all variants of the helicopter. The HSSG, which is made up of oil industry representatives, advised that all models of the Super Puma series including: AS332 L, L1, L2 and EC225 should be grounded for "all Super Puma commercial passenger flights to and from offshore oil and gas installations within the UK." The Norwegian civil aviation authority had earlier rejected appeals from its unions to ground all its Super Pumas – which operate in the North Sea in very similar weather conditions to the UK fleet – insisting that Friday's crash was an isolated incident.

  • Braathens Aviation Orders 4 Additional ATR 72-600S
Braathens Aviation orders 4 additional ATR 72-600s The Swedish group converts four of its ten options of the Paris Air Show 2015 deal Toulouse, 14th December – ATR and Stockholm-based Braathens Aviation are pleased to announce their agreement for the purchase of four additional ATR 72-600s. Today’s announcement represents the conversion into firm orders of four options from a previous deal inked at the Paris Air Show in June 2015. On that occasion, ATR and Braathens Aviation had inked a deal for five firm ATR 72-600s and ten options. The aircraft will be operated by the group’s subsidiary airline Braathens Regional. Braathens Aviation will progressively introduce its ATR ‘-600s’ fleet until the end of next year. The arrival of these nine brand new ATRs, configured with 72 seats and mainly operated in flights to and from the Stockholm-Bromma airport, responds to the aim of Braathens Aviation to upgrade and optimize its regional aircraft fleet. These new ATR 72-600s will partially replace aging Saab 2000s and, in a second step, ATR 72-500s, thus adding seat capacity and introducing the latest standards of comfort and navigation tools in its overall fleet. Braathens’ new ATR 72-600s aircraft will feature additional navigation capabilities including onboard reception functions needed for precision navigation and landing such as the Satellite- Based Augmentation System (SBAS) and Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance (LPV) capability. The aircraft are also equipped with PW127M engines, which are certified to operate with biofuel, thus further enhancing the environmental-friendliness of the ATR ‘-600s’ and giving Braathens the opportunity to provide an even greener service to passengers.

  • SAS “New” Business Model
SAS “new” business model David Sörhammar Uppsala University Department of Business Studies Sweden [email protected] Anna Bengtson Uppsala University Keywords: dynamics, market change, marketing practice, SAS. Abstract In September 2005 SAS introduced a new business model. Where did the model come from and what influenced it? This paper’s focus is on the making of the model where we study the making of a business model as a dynamic process through time. In concrete terms, traces of today’s model can be found and examined from the SAS group’s embryonic attempts starting in 1946, through the financially good years during the 1980s, to the market re-regulation in contemporary time. During these years several changes have taken part both on the larger air travel market and in SAS´s market practice. We have separated SAS´s history into three era’s, the technological era, the businessman’s airlines era, and the “to serve Europe with air travel” era. Elaborating on the theoretical notion of mutuality between markets and market practice (Cf. Helgesson et. al., 2004), the impact of these practices and of the market infra structure at different points in time are described and their importance for the emergence of the business model discussed. Our findings show that the political efforts to de-regulate the European air travel markets did not automatically change all market practices and thus not the market. The process that followed the de-regulation can better be characterised as a translation process in which a changed market was created, based on an already established network of embedded material and immaterial items, such as booking systems, airplanes and perceptive frames, that had to be taken into consideration.
