ABSTRACT (maximum 200 words) While most of the world's media remains focused on insurgent attacks on coalition forces, oil facilities and Shia and Sunni sectarian attacks in Iraq, Pakistan is experiencing a rising tide of violence in the country's volatile Balochistan province, where the majority of the energy-starved country's natural gas facilities are located. Pakistan, currently engaged in a drawn-out conflict against al-Qaeda and Taliban remnants in its North-West Frontier Province (NWFP), is slowly descending into conflict with anti-government forces in Balochistan province, raising the unsettling prospect of a rising second internal front against militants. A second internal front would drain resources from Pakistan's ability to maintain effective, smooth and stable control over the law and order situation in the country and its campaign against al-Qaeda and Taliban remnants in the NWFP and the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA). Under the prevailing situation conventional means to bring about peace and encouraging environments for political and economic stability seem to be elusive. In this thesis an effort will be made to uncover the root causes, historical perspective and genesis of socio cultural setup in Balochistan, so that the modern techniques and tools of IO/IW can be used to recommend useful options to deal with the situation by the Pakistan government. 14.     HRCP/CHRI 2010 POLICE ORGANISATIONS IN PAKISTAN Human Rights Commission CHRI of Pakistan Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative working for the practical realisation of human rights in the countries of the Commonwealth Human Rights Commission of Pakistan The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) is an independent, non-governmental organisation registered under the law. It is non-political and non-profit-making. Its main office is in Lahore. It started functioning in 1987. The highest organ of HRCP is the general body comprising all members. The general body meets at least once every year. Executive authority of this organisation vests in the Council elected every three years. The Council elects the organisation's office-bearers - Chairperson, a Co-Chairperson, not more than five Vice-Chairpersons, and a Treasurer. No office holder in government or a political party (at national or provincial level) can be an office bearer of HRCP. The Council meets at least twice every year. Besides monitoring human rights violations and seeking redress through public campaigns, lobbying and intervention in courts, HRCP organises seminars, workshops and fact-finding missions. It also issues monthly Jehd-i-Haq in Urdu and an annual report on the state of human rights in the country, both in English and Urdu. The HRCP Secretariat is headed by its Secretary General I. A. Rehman. The main office of the Secretariat is in Lahore and branch offices are in Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta. A Special Task Force is located in Hyderabad (Sindh) and another in Multan (Punjab), HRCP also runs a Centre for Democratic Development in Islamabad and is supported by correspondents and activists across the country.

Leventis* The Waziristan Accord between Pakistan’s government and tribal leaders in that country’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) has failed not only to curb violence in the immediate region but also to restrict cross-border militant activity--including resurgent Taliban and al-Qa’ida cadres-- between Pakistan’s “tribal belt” and Afghanistan. The purpose of this article is to examine the Waziristan Accord and to indicate why agreements of this nature will continue to fail unless there is a substantial modification in Pakistan’s internal and regional policies. Rahim, R.K. Ansari, A.K.Zai, 2011) which dealt with only pre-university level curricula in Pakistan whereas, the present study reviews the university level curricula in Pakistan. There are two types of higher education institutions in Pakistan. The state governed (Public sector) universities and institutes and the private sector universities and degree issuing institutions. Also, there are institutions under military control and R & D organizations. We will review the curricula of some such institutions and compare with curricula of United Nations programs on space applications. It is concluded that the standard and span of AS and SS courses at university level curricula in Pakistan have highly been raised. However, no institution is granting degree in the specific area of commercial and industrial uses of space. This means that as a nation we have just stepped on but not yet have started the journey to participate in the activities of industrialization and Commercialization of space and more efforts have to be put in this regard. Sadiq Malkani Paleontology and Stratigraphy Branch, Geological Survey of Pakistan, Sariab Road, Quetta, Pakistan Abstract Sulaiman (Middle Indus) Basin represents Mesozoic and Cainozoic strata and have deposits of sedimentary minerals with radioactive and fuel minerals. The new coal deposits and showings, celestite, barite, fluorite, huge gypsum deposits, marble (limestone), silica sand, glauconitic and hematitic sandstone (iron and potash), clays, construction stone are being added here. Sulaiman Basin was previously ignored for updating of stratigraphy and economic mineral potential.   • Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling
    Title Page Research and Analysis Centre - a UNODC and FIA Collaboration UNODC's program on illicit trafficking and border management (Sub-Program1) enhances the core capacities of Pakistan's law enforcement agencies to reduce illicit trafficking and manage borders primarily through the provision of specialized training and equipment. Law enforcement agencies struggle to interdict trafficking and smuggling of various kinds and scales, which poses a challenge to the governance, development, and security of the country. In January 2014 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between UNODC COPAK and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to establish a Research and Analysis Centre at FIA Headquarters in Islamabad. The purpose of this initiative was to enhance legal, regulatory, and enforcement frameworks on human trafficking and migrant smuggling. It added to knowledge and skills within the migration-related law enforcement agencies and improved information collection, analysis, and coordination of migration-related crimes. The Research and Analysis Centre (RAC) was officially inaugurated on 1 May 2014. Currently three researchers from UNODC and two from the FIA have been placed at the Centre, with necessary equipment and software provided by UNODC. The findings of this report are based on research conducted at RAC over the past year.
