Sylvain Chauveau _ glockenspiel, guitar Stéphane Garin _ percussion, field recordings Joël Merah _ guitar The core of 0 (Sylvain Chauveau, Stéphane Garin, Joël Merah) is based in Bayonne (France) and in Brussels (Belgium). The band has already performed pieces by Morton Feldman, Steve Reich, Taku Sugimoto, Erik Satie, John Cage, Moondog, Gavin Bryars or Rachel Grimes (Rachel’s), as well as original compositions by the members of the ensemble. Ben Vida (Town And Country, Bird Show), Nikos Veliotis, Steven Hess (Haptic, Pan American), Florencia Di Concilio and Antti Rannisto have written pieces especially for 0. 0 has played live around Europe (Switzerland, France, Spain, Belgium) and in Asia (Japan tour in Spring 2011). The project Our project is an artist residency for 5 musicians: the original trio that is the core of 0 plus wordly acclaimed German electronic composer Stephan Mathieu and Mathias Delplanque (a French musician and sound artist awarded by many grants and residencies): Sylvain Chauveau _ glockenspiel, guitar, vocal Mathias Delplanque _ electronics Stéphane Garin _ percussion, field recordings Stephan Mathieu _ electronics, virginal Joël Merah _ guitar With the support of Pau’s La Centrifugeuse (where we are artists in residency 2011-2012) we will create a new, original directory based on acoustic intruments (guitars, percussion, glockenspiel, virginals, vocal) and electronic processings. It will be performed live and also recorded for a discographic release. Therefore, we are sending you this document to ask you if you are interested in allowing us a period of residency in your venue to rework and optimize this new directory for a live performance completely adapted to your place (its stage, structure, acoustics, size, audience). Resumés _ Sylvain Chauveau (www.sylvainchauveau.com) _ French musician who has released 9 solo records on labels such as Type and FatCat, as well as Creative Sources and Les Disques du Soleil et de l'Acier: compositions for acoustic intruments, electronics and vocal, with the use of silence and quietness as musical elements. Artist in residency at the Villa Kujoyama 2011 in Kyoto (Japan), he has toured in Europe with Icelandic band Sigur Ros and has performed at the Knitting Factory (New York), Union Chapel (Londres), O-Nest (Tokyo), Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), festival La Batie (Genève), Grand Rex (Paris), Formoz Festival (Taipei), Sala Rossa (Montréal), Fringe Festival (Singapour), EACC (Castellon), Opéra de Lille, Brussels Electronic Music Festival, Les Siestes Electroniques (Kyoto), festival Approximation (Düsseldorf), Musique Action (Nancy) and many other places. Sylvain Chauveau is also a member of Arca (with Joan Cambon) and of On (with Steven Hess). He lives in Brussels, Belgium. _ Mathias Delplanque (www.mathiasdelplanque.com) _ was born in 1973 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. After classical music studies, he graduated at the Ecole Nationale d’Arts de Cergy Pontoise in France and started to work as a sound artist. His work as a composer takes on several main lines and develops through different identities. As Lena, he composes electronic music strongly influenced by Jamaican Dub. With this project (several albums released on the labels Quatermass, Soundsaround and Plush!), he shared the stage with some celebrities from contemporary dub music (Adrian Sherwood, Pole, Paul St Hilaire, Rhythm & Sound, Aba Shanti), and was greeted by the Press as « one of the most interesting actor of the French dub scene ». His other project Bidlo (first album released on the English label Harmsonic) explores the outer limits of a hybrid and melodic electronica. As Mathias Delplanque he creates sound installations and immersive pieces (the series « Ma chambre quand je n’y suis pas », « Le pavillon témoin », « SOL », « La plinthe », « L’inondation », « Parcelles1-10 », « Passeports »…). Mathias Delplanque is also the founding member of various collective projects : Lena & The Floating Roots Orchestra (with Steve Argüelles, Rob Mazurek, Black Sifichi, Charlie O, Charles-Eric Charrier, Rasim Biyikli, Alice Lewis), Afterlife Music Radio (with Myra Melford, Ben Goldberg and Shahzad Ismaïly), The Missing Ensemble (with John Sellekaers and Daniel De Los Santos), AAA Men (with Charlie O and Black Sifichi). He has released albums on more than ten labels around the world (Canada, France, UK, USA, Greece, Belgium, Switzerland...). His spatial work (being sound installations or hybrids of live and multidiffusion processes) is regularly presented in galleries, group exhibitions and festivals. A strong believer in art and music collaboration, he worked with many visual artists (Dove Allouche, Jean-Pierre Aubé…) and musicians (Charlélie Couture, Rob Mazurek, Steve Argüelles, Man, Black Sifichi, Charlie O, Daniel Givens, Pierre-Yves Macé, Ghislain Poirier). Mathias Delplanque has won several grants and got several artistic residencies in different countries (France, Canada, India…). He runs the label Bruit Clair (www.bruitclair.com). _ Stéphane Garin _ has started his musical studies at the CNR in Bayonne and has received the first prize of percussion, then at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris, where he received the first prize of percussion in Jean Geoffroy and Jacques Delecluse’s class. He has collaborated with musicians and dancers such as _ Olivier Bernet (soundtrack for the film “Persepolis” by Marjane Satrapi), Black Sifichi, Pascal Comelade, Carl Craig, Julyen Hamilton, Pierre-Yves Macé, Thierry Madiot Moritz von Oswald (Basic Channel), Shua Group (New York), Wax Taylor… He has performed with symphonic orchestras (Brussels Philharmonic, Pau Pays de Béarn orchestra, orchestre philharmonique de Radio France, Opéra de Rouen, les Siècles…) directed by Pierre Boulez, David Robertson, Léon Fleisher, François-Xavier Roth or Fayçal Karoui… He is also a member of the ensemble Dedalus (http://dedalusensemble.blogspot.com/) directed by guitarist Didier Aschour. Since 2005, he has started a collaboration with visual artist Sylvestre Gobart: a phonogrpahic work about the memory of extermination during World War II in France, in Poland and in Ukraine (CD on Bruit Clair / Gruenrekorder in February 2011). He has played live in La Cigale, La Grande Halle de la Villette, Grand Rex, La Cité de la musique (Paris), Confort moderne (Poitiers), at the Printemps de la Photo (Cahors), at the festival Sons d’Hiver, Les Instants chavirés (Montreuil), L’Olympic (Nantes), Centrifugeuse (Pau), at the Sol Del Río Arte Contemporánea (Guatemala City)… in Asia, Europe and USA. _ Stephan Mathieu (www.bitsteam.de) _ born in 1967, is a musician and sound artist based in Germany. He works in the field of digital art, mainly as a self taught composer and performer of his own music. He creates audio installations, works as a hobbyist photographer and graphic designer, and taught Digital Arts and Theory at the HBKSaar university of art and design in Saarbrücken and as a guest lecturer at the royal academy of arts in Göteborg, the Bauhaus university Weimar and the Merz-Akademie in Stuttgart. During the last decade his music has been released on 18 CDs, both solo and in collaboration
