Bare rooted or open ground trees should be lifted and replanted whilst dormant, usually from November to the end of March. Roots of “lifted” trees should be kept moist and protected against frost. If not planting within 7 to 10 days of receipt it is advisable to “heel in” or cover roots completely. When soil conditions are suitable, the tree should be planted on the old soil line, at the depth it was in the nursery. Slow release fertiliser should be incorporated into the existing backfill. It is important to use an adjustable tree tie with protective buffer between stake and tree. Keep the ground around the tree grass and weed free for at least the first two growing seasons ideally using manure as a surface mulch.

A more complete planting guide is available on request.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT NOT TO PLANT TOO DEEPLY. THE ROOT WRAP ON ROOT-BALLED TREES SUCH AS YEW MUST BE LEFT ON.
