  • HAYK's SPIRIT IS IMMORTAL More Than 4500-Year-Old Roots of The
HAYK’S SPIRIT IS IMMORTAL Danielyan E. L. Doctor of Sciences (History) ETERNAL GLORY AND HONOR TO THE HEROES AND THEIR COMRADES-IN-ARMS WHO SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES FOR THE FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE OF THE FATHERLAND More than 4500-year-old roots of the Armenian Army are hallowed by the freedom struggle of the Armenian nation for the defence of the Fatherland against foreign invaders. The Armenian liberation torch sanctified by Hayk Nahapet (Patriarch) passed over from Hayots Dzor1 to Avarayr, Zeytun, Sasun, Sardarapat and has reached Artsakh. The heroes sacrificing their lives for the liberation of the Fatherland are immortalized. Hayk Lake Van 1 Մովսէս Խորենացի, Պատմութիւն Հայոց, Երևան, 1991, էջ 32-37: The year 2008 marked the 4500th anniversary of the victory of the Armenian Patriarch Hayk against Bel at the battle of Hayots Dzor (on the shore of Lake Van). Thе calendar calculation of the date based on the periodicity of “Hayk’s Cycle” of the “Ancient Armenian era” was done by the famous Armenologist Ghevond Alishan (1820-1901) (Ալիշան Ղ., Յուշիկք հայրենեաց Հայոց, հ. Ա, Վենետիկ, 1920, էջ 85). There was no leap-year in the ancient Armenian era, since a year was always considered to consist of 365 days; hence the year and the date were movable. Thus 1460 years, according to the Julian calendar, amount to 1461 years, according to the Armenian Calendar. By such periodicity of the “Cycle of Hayk”, 2492 BC denotes the year of Hayk’s victory. The beginning of the victorious year was Navasard 1 (=August 11). New discoveries connected with the observations of the starry sky (the 6th millennium BC - Zorats kar (Karahunj), the first half of the 3rd millennium BC - Metsamor), archaeological excavations and petroglyphs in the Armenian Highland, bear witness to the deep Haykian roots, and that the glorious victory of Hayk symbolized the beginning of a very important new epoch of the Armenian history.

MONTREAL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE BACKGROUND GUIDE United Nations Security Council 1 LETTER FROM THE CHAIR Dear Delegates, My name is Alex and I will be your chair for the 2020 MUNC UNSC Crisis Simulation. A little about me before we start: In 2017, I started my Model UN career as a wee delegate attending my first conference: MUNC’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). For the first day or two, I was extremely quiet; I did not raise my placard to speak and definitely did not believe in my abilities as a delegate. However, as time went on and I realised the chairs do not bite as hard as I perceived them to, I began to participate with more regularity. I spoke frequently, passed notes, and spoke as much as I could. For many, this will be your first dabble into the world of Model UN. Let this be a forum to express your interest in world affairs and to showcase your bright ideas for the future. Please do not be intimidated by the others in the room and give it your all! I and the rest of my team will do the best we can to make you feel as comfortable as possible, even if it may only be from behind our screens. The United Nations Security Council is by far the most powerful branch of the United Nations. Use this to your advantage to solve the crisis playing out throughout the weekend. The conflict we have in store for you is one rarely spoken about today, yet still continues on in 2020.

PHOTOLURE/ Hayk Baghdasaryan The publication became possible thanks to the support of World Federalist Movement/Institute for Global Policy. The opinions expressed in our published works are those of the author(s) and do not reflect the opinions of World Federalist Movement/Institute for Global Policy. YEREVAN, 2021 Introduction The first day of the ceasefire agreement, November 10, 2020, stopped the 44-day aggression of Turkey-Azerbaijan alliance against the unrecognized, small Republic of Nagorno Karabakh. A young woman journalist from Nagorno Karabakh wrote on her Facebook page: “I went to kiss the walls of my Amaras1 monastery, as I know I will never see it again.” That first day of peace, many people drove to visit the Dadivank2 monastery for the last time, to bid farewell to the spiritual treasure that was an inseparable part of their historic, centuries-old identity as Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh. People were confident that in only a few days, they would no longer be able to visit any of their national treasures so dear to their hearts—treasures of intellectual history that they grew up with. The videos broadcast and shared by Azeri soldiers over the internet showed them standing on the Green Church3, taking off the cross, and destroying the bell tower. It left the local Armenian population with very little hope for the preservation of the sites. The newly drawn map had handed over to Azerbaijan the control of these national treasures, dear to their hearts and part of their geographic landscape of historical monuments. As is true for all world nations, the lives of Armenians can’t be separated from their intellectual, cultural heritage.

  • A Brief History of the Art and Architecture of Artsakh - Nagorno Karabakh
OFFICE OF THE NAGORNO KARABAKH REPUBLIC IN THE USA A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ART AND ARCHITECTURE OF ARTSAKH - NAGORNO KARABAKH Introduction The art created in Armenia’s historical province of Artsakh, the largest part of which is known today as Nagorno Karabakh, constitutes one of the important chapters in the history of Armenian art. It has progressed through the same major stages as did Armenian art in a larger sense: from pre-Christian times to the adoption of Christianity early in the fourth century, through the Middle Ages, and from there—to the era of modernity. As in many other Christian cultures, the principal expression of Artsakh’s art in the Middle Ages was through ecclesiastical architecture: churches, cathedrals, chapels and monasteries. Most other forms of art in that period, including illuminated manuscripts, khachkars (unique-to-Armenia stone slabs with engraved crosses) and mural paintings were likewise tied to Artsakh’s religious life and its primary institution—the Armenian Apostolic Church. Artsakh has been rightfully called an open-sky treasure-house of various forms of Armenian architecture. Overall, Artsakh, including adjacent areas that lay outside of the boundaries of today’s Nagorno Karabakh Republic, contains up to 1700 architectural artifacts. In addition to ecclesiastical structures, this number includes samples of civil architecture, ancient castles and fortresses as well as numerous khachkars. Pre-Christian Era The earliest monuments in Artsakh relate to the pre-Christian era when polytheism was the most widespread form of religion. The most curious art form from that time period is, perhaps, large anthropomorphic stone idols that are found in the eastern lowlands of the northern counties of Jraberd and Khachen.

  • Republic of Artsakh
Republic of Artsakh The Republic of Artsakh (Armenian: Արցախի Հանրապետթյն Arts'akhi Hanrapetut'yun),[3][4] or simply Artsakh Republic of Artsakh (/ɑːrtsɑːk/), (commonly known by its second official name of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (/nəˌɡɔːrnoʊ kɑːrəˈbɑːk/) between 1991 and 2017 ,) is an internationally unrecognised de facto independent country in the South Արցախի Հանրապետթյն Caucasus; it is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan. The region is populated mostly by Armenians and the Artsakhi Hanrapetut'yun (Armenian) primary spoken language is Armenian. Artsakh controls most of the territory of the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast and some of the surrounding area, giving it a border with Armenia to the west and Iran to the south. Its capital is Stepanakert. The predominantly Armenian-populated region of Nagorno-Karabakh was claimed by both the Azerbaijan Democratic Flag Coat of arms Republic and the First Republic of Armenia when both countries became independent in 1918 after the fall of the Russian Empire, and a brief war over Nagorno-Karabakh broke out in 1920. The dispute was largely shelved after the Anthem: Ազատ Անկախ (Armenian) Soviet Union established control over the area and created the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO) within Արցախ Azat u Ankakh Artsakh (transliteration) the Azerbaijan SSR in 1923. During the fall of the Soviet Union, the region re-emerged as a source of dispute between Free and Independent Artsakh Armenia and Azerbaijan. In 1991, a referendum held in the NKAO and the neighbouring Shahumian region resulted in a 0:00 MENU declaration of independence based on its right of self-determination.

  • Protection of Armenian Cultural Heritage of the Republik of Artsakh
13.11.2020 Protection of Armenian cultural heritage of the Republik of Artsakh The German-Armenian Lawyers' Association (Association) has been continuously following the war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) since September 27, 2020 and is actively documenting and reporting international humanitarian law violations. Based on the Association Statute as a non-profit organization, our mandate includes not only the documentation and reporting of human rights violations, war crimes and the violation of international humanitarian law by the Azerbaijani armed forces in this context, but also the reporting of imminent and accordingly still preventable crimes. Since September 27th, our association provides legal reviews and analyses on the events relating to the war in Artsakh. Committed to our statutory objectives, we called on to politicians, society as well as public and non-public institutions and informed about war crimes, the international human rights and humanitarian law violations after profound research and evaluation of the facts. Due to the current situation that 80% of Artsakh territory falls under the control of the Republic of Azerbaijan, cultural property/heritage have to be left behind and are thus threatened by imminent destruction. The Republic of Artsakh has an Armenian rich cultural and religious heritage. There are over 80 Armenian-apostolic churches and monasteries in the Republic of Artsakh, which were built in different centuries.1 These cultural and natural heritage sites are currently under threat according to the UNESCO fall into and protected under Articles 1 and 2 of the World Heritage Convention. Their activities are concentred especially in Gyumri, which has an invaluable historical, patrimonial and cultural wealth. After the earthquake of 1988, which caused the death of tens of thousands of inhabitants, this city tries to get up and regain its once undeniable radiance. Following this tragic event, the Family Care Foundation was created by the will of implementing projects for the economic and cultural development of Armenia in the fields of tourism, art, handicraft and restoration of traditional values with a strong ethical requirement. Regarding Muscari, created in 2016, its purpose is to valorise Armenian culture and French-Armenian exchanges. It works for education in France and Armenia and it promotes a better knowledge of peoples, cultures and languages. This complementarity gives life to projects such as the ceramics workshop in Gyumri, which allows currently many families to live with dignity, thanks to arts and crafts inspired by among others Armenian potters from Kütahya in the former Ottoman Empire, the golden age of their activity being in the 18th century.
