Emilie Simarpi Studying Level 3 Women’s Hairdressing “I work as a delivery driver and wanted to change my career path to something that would work with my family, being a mum of three. I always had a passion for hair so decided to learn more and achieve a qualification that would enable me to work in a salon.

My teachers are great and really support me and are understanding of my life outside of college. I’ve made some good friends at college and I now feel more like me, and not just a working mum. I’ve really enjoyed the whole experience, learning new skills and meeting new people.”

10 Nicole Brookes Studying Level 4 AAT Accounting

“I chose to enhance my career prospects going back to work after having my child. Beforehand I was mostly doing admin roles with little scope for progression and limited earning potential.

I started by studying the Level 3 AAT Accounting at Strode on an apprenticeship, where I was taken on by a local accountancy practice. After my apprenticeship finished they kept me on, and paid for me to continue my studies on the Level 4 AAT course.

I have found Strode College to be friendly, organised and supportive. My lecturer has been amazing - I couldn’t have come this far without his knowledge and support.

There are so many aspects to accountancy that I never realised. It is a fantastic basis for a wide variety of job choices. I am loving my new career and couldn’t have achieved what I have so far without the learning and practical skills acquired at the College. I hope to progress further in my accountancy career with my current employer.”

Preparation for IELTS L1 INT NC IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a high level and academically demanding qualification which is widely recognised by universities and professional bodies in Britain as part of their entry requirements. We will study the Academic strand which is suitable for people who want to study on an undergraduate or postgraduate degree course; it is also increasingly needed by health care professionals such as doctors and nurses who wish to practice in this country. Preparation for IELTS is an intensive course so be prepared for a lot of homework! There are four papers, or modules, to the IELTS test: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. We will practise exam tasks on these in the context of typical IELTS topics such as the environment, international issues, education, government etc. The exam itself must be taken at an official IELTS centre, which will charge a fee – currently £180. Your teacher will give you advice on how to register.

To join the IELTS Preparation Course you will need to book an assessment interview which will take about one hour. The tutor will check your level of English (your English skills need to be quite advanced to do this course – Level 1/2 or above) so please bring any language certificates you already have. You will need to enrol and pay before the start of the course. To book an assessment call 01458 844614 in term-time or 01458 844590 during the college holidays. Alternatively email us on [email protected]. Minimum numbers apply. Strode College Tue 1000 - 1230 02/11/21 - 05/04/22 19 Wks £550 BV0PIF/P1-21SC

It is essential that students attending this course have their own DSLR camera with battery, charger and SD card. You will explore the workings of your camera while daily photographing a theme. Building on the introductory course, we will look at developing more creativity through using manual functions on the camera and exploring different styles of imagery and composition.
