That’s when the Village of Hilton Beach hosts its annual ‘Arts at the Dock’ event. Teresa Parker and her camera were there to capture the sights and the atmosphere of this wonderful offering of so many beautiful creations by talented artists and arti- sans, working in so many different media. Teresa tells us that she went early, because it looked like it might rain. On the bright side, she found the cloudy sky made better lighting for her photos. That’s our Teresa – always finding the rainbow in any situation! Photos by Teresa Parker

WE HAVE ALL OWNED A TEDDY at one time, but have you ever wondered how the received its name? Did you know there was a Teddy Bear being made in Germany at the same time? I’m getting ahead of the story. Let’s go back a little and learn how the Teddy Bear received its name and how American president Theodore “Teddy” Roo- sevelt ties into the tale. Letters to the Editor printed in the Island Insight Column reflect the views of the writer and not necessarily those of the Island Clippings. Highway Repairs Causing Damage to Vehicles I am writing to ask if it is possible for the Clippings to do a survey on how many flat tires people have had since the starting of the re-surfacing of the highway on the Island. So far in between Hamilton Bay Road and the U Line, we have had 5 flats and one cracked windshield. This is because of the stones/gravel that they are using. All 5 tires were caused by sharp stones and the windshield, we saw that one coming, literally! We were following the new posted speed limit to minimize the damage from the rocks to the ve- hicles. So much for that idea! I know that they are trying to keep up with a better highway, but it is costing money to get these tires replaced and or fixed. I know that we are not the only one, but how many more? Thank you Yves Gauthier Publisher’s Note: We’re sure that everyone agrees that these highway repairs are long overdue, but Mr. Gauthier is not alone. We too have suffered tire damage from these stones. We can all, as drivers, do our part to help minimize the dangers Celebrating Fifty Years simply by slowing down to a sensible speed on loose gravel - especially when approaching other vehicles.
