They provide an unparalleled opportunity for studying marine biogeography because they include the globally distributed families Tripterygiidae (triplefin blennies) and Blenniidae (combtooth blennies), the temperate Clinidae (kelp blennies), and three largely Neotropical families (Labrisomidae, Chaenopsidae, and Dactyloscopidae). However, interpretation of these distributional patterns has been hindered by largely unresolved inter-familial relationships and the lack of evidence of monophyly of the Labrisomidae. Results: We explored the phylogenetic relationships of the Blenniiformes based on one mitochondrial (COI) and four nuclear (TMO-4C4, RAG1, Rhodopsin, and Histone H3) loci for 150 blenniiform species, and representative outgroups (Gobiesocidae, Opistognathidae and Grammatidae). According to the consensus of Bayesian Inference, Maximum Likelihood, and Maximum Parsimony analyses, the monophyly of the Blenniiformes and the Tripterygiidae, Blenniidae, Clinidae, and Dactyloscopidae is supported. -

This species was characterized by a black spot between the first and the second dorsal spines, and a black spot on upper part of opercular membrane. The species was morphologically similar to N. okazakii, but distinctly distinguished by pectoral fin base without a black dot. This study documents the first record of N. chihiroe in Korean waters and suggests the new Korean name ‘Donghaebineulbedolachi’ for the species. Minoji The Minoji is a road that connects Miyajuku (present day Nagoya City, Atstuta Ward) along the old Tokaido Road to Taruijuku(present day Fuwagun in Gifu Prefecture) along the Nakasendo Road (old mountain pass route). This Minoji passed through seven lodging towns of Nagoya, Kiyosu, Inaba, Hagiwara, Okoshi, Sunomata, and Ogaki. Such alternate side routes of the Tokaido and Nakasendo among five roads radiating from Edo were placed under the control of the Edo Shogunate’s road magistrate. The Minoji was greatly used to allow bypassing the sea traffic between Kuwana and Miya along the waterway route Akasaka Nakasendo Goudo Tarui Kano known as Shichiri no Watashi.
