Citi Forms Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory in Japan Daisaku Fujikawa and Jason Rekate Appointed Co-Heads
Tokyo – Citi announced today that it has formed a new unit in Japan called Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory (BCMA) and appointed Daisaku Fujikawa and Jason Rekate as co- heads, effective immediately.
The unit combines Citi's Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) and Capital Markets Origination (CMO) divisions in Japan. Placing all of the firm's banking and capital markets businesses under one umbrella, the new structure will allow Citi to serve its banking clients with a more comprehensive coverage model and align Citi’s capital raising and advisory products more seamlessly. The same structural change was announced and implemented on a global level in September 2018.
Prior to today's appointment, Daisaku Fujikawa was the head of the CMO division in Japan. He joined Citi in 2006 as head of Debt Capital Markets in Japan. Prior to that, he worked for UBS for six years and the Industrial Bank of Japan (present Mizuho Financial Group) for 16 years. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Waseda University and a Master's degree from Princeton University.
Jason Rekate was the head of Corporate Banking in Japan. He joined Citi in 2002 and served in a number of corporate banking roles in the U.S., Europe and Asia before coming to Japan in 2016. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University and Master's degrees in Business Administration and International Affairs from Columbia University.
Fujikawa and Rekate will be double-hatted across Citigroup Global Markets Japan Inc. and Citibank, N.A., Tokyo Branch. They will report locally to Lee Waite, Citi Japan Country Officer, and globally to Tyler Dickson and Manuel Falco, global co-heads of BCMA.
