To ensure the sustainability of the outcome, an associated technical assistance is proposed to assist the government in updating its master plan for roads and improving its planning capacity. Project Rationale and Bangladesh reached lower middle-income status in July 2015. With its young and rapidly growing Linkage to Country/Regional population, Bangladesh has the potential to become a major exporter of labor-intensive products. Its Strategy location between South and Southeast Asia provides the country good prospects of becoming a regional trading hub. But the country's transport infrastructure is inadequate, which raises costs, reduces competitiveness, and impedes intra-regional trade. -

But generally 100-150 trucks are cleared in the Indian side leaving rest trucks tailbacked in Bangladesh side. This causes heavy traffic congestion in the port area. Beside the cost of export is increased due to demurrage charges by the transport agencies for the delayed delivery of export cargoes. -

The Bangladesh Delta, bisected by the Brahmaputra River (also called the Jamuna River), is rife with complexity. Here, an emerging middle-income country with the world’s highest population density coexists with the world’s most unpredictable and largest braided, sand-bed river. Bangladesh has struggled over decades to protect against the onslaught of a continuously widening river corridor. Many of the principles implemented successfully in other parts of the world failed in Bangladesh. To this end, Bangladesh embarked on intensive knowledge-based developments and piloted new technologies. After two decades, successful, sustainable, low-cost riverbank protection technology was developed, suitable for the challenging river conditions. It was necessary to accept that no construction is permanent in this morphologically dynamic environment. What was initially born out of fund shortages became a cost-effective, systematic and adaptive approach to riverbank protection using improved knowledge, new materials, and new techniques, in the form of geobag revetments. This article provides an overview of the challenges faced when attempting to stabilize the riverbanks of the mighty rivers of Bangladesh. An overview of the construction of the major bridge crossings as well as riverbank protection schemes is detailed. -

Integrated Check-Posts on the India-Bangladesh Border: A Field Survey and Brief Analysis ABSTRACT India is in the process of establishing Integrated Check-Posts (ICPs) at selected checkpoints along land borders with its neighbours, for the efficient management of border crossings. The ICPs are aimed at facilitating cross- border trade and movement of people. As of 2019, 20 checkpoints have been identified for development as ICPs, of which half are on the India–Bangladesh border. This report studies the impact of the ICPs on activities along this border. It analyses the shortcomings of the ICPs and suggests ways of improving their efficiency. INTRODUCTION Border checkpoints are integral to border management. They are usually managed by officials responsible for inspecting and facilitating the legitimate cross-border movement of people and goods, while preventing any unauthorised passage. -

Bangladesh Land Port Authority (at a glance) Overview : Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA) came into being under Bangladesh Sthala Bandar Kartipaksha Act, 2001 (Act 20 of 2001) in order to facilitate and improve the export-import activities with the neighbouring countries through land routes. Since inception, Bangladesh Land Port Authority has been functioning as statutory body under the Ministry of Shipping. So far, 24 Land Customs Stations have been declared as Land Ports. Out of them, 12 land ports are wholly in operation. Among 07 land ports are being operated by BLPA own management. On the other hand, 05 land ports are being operated by Private Port Operators on BOT (Build, Operate and Transfer) basis. A Private Port Operator has also been appointed to develope and operate Birol Land Port. The remaining 12 land ports are waiting for the development and operation activities. Vision : To establish efficient, safe and environment friendly world calss land port. Mission : To promote export-import trade trough the use of modern technology in cargo handling, strorage and infrastructural development of land ports. : (1) Formulating policies foroperation, development, management, Activities of BLPA expansion and maintenance of the land ports; (2) Engaging operators for receiption, storage and delivary of cargoes at land ports; (3) Preparing schedule of tariffs, tolls, rates and fees chargeable from land port users having prior approval of the government; (4) Executing any contractwith any person to fulfill the objectives of this Act.
