It is because of exhibitors like you that we have continued to improve and grow our show. We are very proud of our State Fair facilities, particularly the Five Points Bank Arena. Some of the highlights of the 2019 Nebraska State Fair include: • This year's total premiums are again over $50,000.00 for the Draft Horse events. • New this year, we have added two Amateur driving classes. The Amateur Cart and Amateur Team classes are novice drivers age 16 and over who are not competing in any other youth or open hitch classes. 2 of 11 • We have also moved the Draft Horse Pull to the first weekend of the fair and will hold it on Sunday, August 25th immediately following the afternoon performance. All entry information for Pullers is located in the section following the Hitch, Halter & Farm Team show details. • Six horse hitches will compete for Triple Points in our Classic Series Qualifier Classes. You can sign up to drive in three qualifying six horse hitch classes for a potential of up to 42 points. We only have room in the barn for fourteen six horse hitches so you must get your entry in as soon as possible. • The Nebraska Draft Horse & Mule Association will again provide a draft horse exhibit or hospitality booth on Saturday and Sunday. • Farm Team classes will show in conjunction with the evening Hitch Classes. Each evening performance will begin with Feed Team races with a final drive off of the top teams from the two preceding performances during the final Sunday afternoon show. The obstacle and timed events will be held Saturday morning in the Five Points Bank Arena. • The Sunday Hitch Show will again be a Matinee with a start time of 4:00 p.m. We are asking that all exhibitors stalled in the Cattle Barn be out by Midnight, Sunday, August 25th. • Exhibitors stalled in the Sheep Barn can stay until 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26 th. Terry Pierce Draft Horse Superintendent LOAD IN – LOAD OUT 1. Draft Horses will be stalled in the Exhibition Barns adjoining the Five Points Bank Arena. 2. Stalls will be available after 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21st and horses must be stalled by Friday August 23rd at 10:00 a.m. 3. Load in-Load out for all Draft Horses will be through Gate 3 off of Stolley Park Rd. 4. Draft Halter horses will be allowed to load out after the halter competition on Thursday. 5. Hitch & Farm Team horses will not be allowed to begin loading out until AFTER the Sunday afternoon Performance without prior written permission from the Draft Horse Superintendent. No trailers will be allowed in the barns until the hitch show is over and the Pulling Horses have entered the arena on Sunday. Failure to comply will result in a loss of premiums and any other disciplinary action as desired by the Nebraska State Fair. 6. Draft Horses must be out of the Cattle Barn by Midnight, Sunday, August 25th and the Sheep Barn by 8:00 Monday, August 26th - NO EXCEPTIONS. Any horses that need to stay later than dates noted must relocate in the Racehorse Barns. There is an extremely tight barn cleaning schedule and rules must be followed. REGISTRATION PAPERS No animal may be entered or exhibited as purebred unless the same has been recorded in the recognized books of record for the respective breed. Draft horse exhibitors do not need to send in copies of registration papers for purebred classes. However, in the case of a dispute or questions you should be prepared to show copies if asked to by the Show Secretary. FEED & BEDDING All Feed and Bedding needs will be handled by Mid Nebraska Feeds, which is a local Purina dealer. Hay, bedding and/or feed will be available. You can pre-order feed and bedding by contacting Mid Nebraska Feeds at 308-382-3048. 3 of 11 RULES & REGULATIONS 1. Classes shall be governed by the current rules of the Nebraska State Fair General Livestock Information, Rules and Regulations and the Equine General Information, Rules and Regulations. By entering this horse show, you agree to be governed by the above rules as posted on the state fair website: www.statefair.org. The Nebraska State Fair will impose all rules of the IAFE National Code of Show Ring Ethics as outlined in the front of this premium book. 2. All entries for the Nebraska State Fair must be made in the NAME OF THE OWNER OR LESSEE with all horses to be named. If any individual enters an animal in a name other than that of a bona fide owner or attempt to perpetrate a fraud by misrepresenting any fact, the entry shall not be allowed to compete for or receive any premium. In case of question as to the age of an animal, the Superintendent shall appoint an expert whose decision shall be final. Exhibitors are responsible for errors on entries. Entries that have been erroneously entered may, at the discretion of the Superintendent of the department, be transferred to their proper classes previous to the judging. If such classes have been judged they shall not be re-judged. The Nebraska State Fair reserves the right to return any entries received beyond the capacity of the facilities offered. 3. Exhibitors, attendants, and headers must be neatly and properly dressed on entering the show ring. 4. The Draft Horse Show Office will not process any additional class entries less than an hour before the scheduled performance. 5. Hitch Performance: To be judged 40% performance, 40% uniformity of conformation, 20% harness and wagon. 6. The 3-minute gate rule will be enforced. Plan accordingly. 7. The Nebraska State Fair reserves the right to split or cancel classes at their discretion. 8. Youth Exhibitors: Shall be under the age of 18 as of January 1 of the current year. All youth drivers MUST be accompanied by an adult. Eligible youth drivers will not be allowed to compete in youth classes if they choose to compete in Open classes. 9. Halter Class Exhibitors: The Grand Champion Mare, Stallion and Gelding from each breed will come back to compete for Supreme Champion. Supreme Halter Champion will be a result of the collective decision made by both halter judges. 10. Six Horse Hitch Entries: This is a triple point Classic series qualifier show. You MUST hook the Six for all three performances to be eligible for the $1,200 guaranteed premium payback. There will be a limit of 14 Six Horse Hitch's that will be allowed to enter. Exhibitor/owner must own at least four of the horses in a six-horse hitch. You must be a member of the Classic Series and show proof of membership upon check in. 11. Classic Series Cart Class Entries: Must provide proof of membership. 12. Draft Horse Western Riding- Horses to be tacked up in proper western tack and rider attired accordingly. Horses will be asked to walk, trot, and canter, at the judge's discretion. Horses will work both ways in the arena and will be asked to back. Entry to be judged on the overall picture, including gaits and proper attire. Headset is not critical. Scotch bottom shoes are allowed. Open to all Percheron, Clydesdale, Belgian, and Shire draft horses. 13. Draft Horse English Riding - Exhibitor can ride Hunt Seat, Saddle Seat, or Dressage with the horse to be tacked accordingly. Horses will be asked to Walk, Trot, and Canter at the judge's discretion. Horses will work both ways in the arena and will be asked to back. Entry judged on the overall picture, including gaits and proper attire. Headset is not critical. Scotch Bottom shoes are allowed. Open to all Percheron, Clydesdale, Belgian, and Shire horses.
