Changes in the List of Finnish Insects During 2001–2005 © Entomologica Fennica. 6 June 2007 Changes in the list of Finnish insects during 2001–2005 Hans Silfverberg Silfverberg, H. 2007: Changes in the list of Finnish insects during 2001–2005. — Entomol. Fennica 18: 82–101. During the period 2001–2005, 769 species have been added to the list of Finnish insects, and 213 species have been deleted from it. At the end of year 2005, a total of 20,533 insect species were known from Finland. The Finnish insect fauna is generally well known. Still, particularly for Diptera Nematocera and Hymenop- tera Parasitica, and to some degree also in part of Hemiptera, there still remains much to be done. H. • The Maria Curie-Skłodowska University Botanical Garden in Lublin As a Refuge of the Moths (Lepidoptera: Heterocera) Within the City
Acta Biologica 23/2016 | www.wnus.edu.pl/ab | DOI: 10.18276/ab.2016.23-02 | strony 15–34 The Maria Curie-Skłodowska University Botanical Garden in Lublin as a refuge of the moths (Lepidoptera: Heterocera) within the city Łukasz Dawidowicz,1 Halina Kucharczyk2 Department of Zoology, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Akademicka 19, 20-033 Lublin, Poland 1 e-mail: [email protected] 2 e-mail: [email protected] Keywords biodiversity, urban fauna, faunistics, city, species composition, rare species, conservation Abstract In 2012 and 2013, 418 species of moths at total were recorded in the Botanical Garden of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. The list comprises 116 species of Noctuidae (26.4% of the Polish fauna), 116 species of Geometridae (28.4% of the Polish fauna) and 63 species of other Macrolepidoptera representatives (27.9% of the Polish fauna). The remaining 123 species were represented by Microlepidoptera. Nearly 10% of the species were associated with wetland habitats, what constitutes a surprisingly large proportion in such an urbanised area. Comparing the obtained data with previous studies concerning Polish urban fauna of Lepidoptera, the moths assemblages in the Botanical Garden were the most similar to the one from the Natolin Forest Reserve which protects the legacy of Mazovian forests. Several recorded moths appertain to locally and rarely encountered species, as Stegania cararia, Melanthia procellata, Pasiphila chloerata, Eupithecia haworthiata, Horisme corticata, Xylomoia graminea, Polychrysia moneta. In the light of the conducted studies, the Botanical Garden in Lublin stands out as quite high biodiversity and can be regarded as a refuge for moths within the urban limits of Lublin.

Nat. Croat., Vol. 30, No. 1, 37–52, 2021, Zagreb. From 2016 to 2020 numerous surveys were undertaken to improve the knowledge of the pyraloid moth fauna of Biokovo Nature Park. On August 27th, 2020 one specimen of Psorosa mediterranella (Amsel, 1954) from the family Pyralidae was collected on a small meadow (985 m a.s.l.) on Mt Biok- ovo. In this paper, the first data about the occurrence of this species in Croatia are presented. The previ- ous mention in the literature for Croatia was considered to be a misidentification of the past and has thus not been included in the checklist of Croatian pyraloid moth species. P. mediterranella was recorded for the first time in Croatia in recent investigations and, after other additions to the checklist have been counted, is the 396th species in the Croatian pyraloid moth fauna. An overview of the overall pyraloid moth fauna of Croatia is given in the updated species list. NINE Phylum ARTHROPODA SUBPHYLUM HEXAPODA Protura, springtails, Diplura, and insects ROD P. MACFARLANE, PETER A. MADDISON, IAN G. ANDREW, JOCELYN A. BERRY, PETER M. JOHNS, ROBERT J. B. HOARE, MARIE-CLAUDE LARIVIÈRE, PENELOPE GREENSLADE, ROSA C. HENDERSON, COURTenaY N. SMITHERS, RicarDO L. PALMA, JOHN B. WARD, ROBERT L. C. PILGRIM, DaVID R. TOWNS, IAN McLELLAN, DAVID A. J. TEULON, TERRY R. HITCHINGS, VICTOR F. EASTOP, NICHOLAS A. MARTIN, MURRAY J. FLETCHER, MARLON A. W. STUFKENS, PAMELA J. DALE, Daniel BURCKHARDT, THOMAS R. BUCKLEY, STEVEN A. TREWICK defining feature of the Hexapoda, as the name suggests, is six legs. Also, the body comprises a head, thorax, and abdomen. The number A of abdominal segments varies, however; there are only six in the Collembola (springtails), 9–12 in the Protura, and 10 in the Diplura, whereas in all other hexapods there are strictly 11. Insects are now regarded as comprising only those hexapods with 11 abdominal segments. Whereas crustaceans are the dominant group of arthropods in the sea, hexapods prevail on land, in numbers and biomass. Altogether, the Hexapoda constitutes the most diverse group of animals – the estimated number of described species worldwide is just over 900,000, with the beetles (order Coleoptera) comprising more than a third of these. Today, the Hexapoda is considered to contain four classes – the Insecta, and the Protura, Collembola, and Diplura. The latter three classes were formerly allied with the insect orders Archaeognatha (jumping bristletails) and Thysanura (silverfish) as the insect subclass Apterygota (‘wingless’). The Apterygota is now regarded as an artificial assemblage (Bitsch & Bitsch 2000).

  • Worldwide Integrated Assessment of the Impacts of Systemic Pesticides
WORLDWIDE INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACTS OF SYSTEMIC PESTICIDES ON BIODIVERSITY AND ECOSYSTEMS http://www.tfsp.info/assets/WIA_2015.pdf Report in brief The Task Force on Systemic Pesticides is an independent group of scientists from all over the globe, who came together to work on the Worldwide Integrated Assessment of the Impact of Systemic Pesticides on Biodiversity and Ecosystems. The mandate of the Task Force on Systemic Pesticides (TFSP) has been “to carry out a comprehensive, objective, scientific review and assessment of the impact of systemic pesticides on biodiversity, and on the basis of the results of this review to make any recommendations that might be needed with regard to risk management procedures, governmental approval of new pesticides, and any other relevant issues that should be brought to the attention of decision makers, policy developers and society in general” (see appendix 2). The Task Force has adopted a science-based approach and aims to promote better informed, evidence-based, decision-making. The method followed is Integrated Assessment (IA) which aims to provide policy-relevant but not policy-prescriptive information on key aspects of the issue at hand. To this end a highly multidisciplinary team of 30 scientists from all over the globe jointly made a synthesis of 1,121 published peer-reviewed studies spanning the last five years, including industry-sponsored ones. All publications of the TFSP have been subject to the standard scientific peer review procedures of the journal (http://www.springer.com/environment/journal/11356). Key findings of the Task Force have been presented in a special issue of the peer reviewed Springer journal “Environmental Science and Pollution Research” entitled “Worldwide Integrated Assessment of the Impacts of Systemic Pesticides on Biodiversity and Ecosystems” and consists of eight scientific papers, reproduced here with permission of Springer.

E-mail: [email protected] 3H-5101 Jászberény, Táncsics út 5, Hungary Abstract – Four species of Microlepidoptera (Coleophora graminicolella HEINEMANN, 1877, C. pseudosquamosella BALDIZZONE et NEL, 2003, Elachista albifrontella (HÜBNER, 1817), Filatima ukrainica PISKUNOV, 1971) are recorded as new to the fauna of Hungary. The checklist of the Hun- garian Microlepidoptera is complemented with further 50 species based on published records. Six- teen valid species names are deleted from the checklist. Several comments and remarks concerning the Hungarian Microlepidoptera fauna are given. Key words – Microlepidoptera, new records, Hungary, checklist. INTRODUCTION After the publication of the Microlepidoptera volume of the “Checklist of the Fauna of Hungary” (SZABÓKY et al. 2002), new pieces of information became available concerning the microlepidopterans of the country. Altogether 54 species are added to the list based on new faunistical records, taxonomic studies, and pub- lished data. Four of them are recorded here as new for the Hungarian fauna (Coleo- phora graminicolella HEINEMANN, 1877, C. pseudosquamosella BALDIZZONE et NEL, 2003, Elachista albifrontella (HÜBNER, 1817), Filatima ukrainica PISKU- NOV, 1971). Fourteen species names are deleted from the list. New comments make the checklist more complete. We take the advantage of this possibility and try to correct the errors and mistakes present in the original list and complete (and in three cases replace) the Hungarian names with the widely used vernacular Folia ent.
