Southern Africa administers the U.S. Agency for International Development's Regional Telecommunications Restructuring Program (RTRP) for southern Africa. The RTRP has helped to promote Regional Center for Southern Africa, telecommunications policy reform in southern Africa and has been U.S. AID particularly effective in supporting the creation and strengthening of telecommunications regulatory authorities. It also has been the catalyst for information exchanges between southern African nations and U.S. industry to encourage and support U.S.-based investment in the telecom sector in this region. Since early 1999, when she received her current appointment, Ambassador Robinson has participated in discussions with FCC officials The Honorable Kathryn Dee Robinson, about providing technical assistance to the regulator in . The U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Ghana Ambassador and her Deputy Chief of Mission, Dennise Mathien, have been very helpful in the continuing efforts of FCC staff to work with Ghanaian telecommunications officials in the development area.
