Avid Xpress® DV Version 3.5.4 Addendum for the Windows® XP Operating System and for Mac OS® X

Important Information

Avid recommends that you read all the information in the Avid Xpress DV v3.5 Release Notes and this addendum thoroughly before installing or using any new software release.

This document pertains to v3.5.4 of Avid Xpress® DV for the Windows® XP operating system and for Mac OS® X.

Installation Instructions

To install Avid Xpress DV 3.5.4 on Windows XP: 1. Follow the instructions in the AvidXpressDV Installer. You will be asked to remove your current version of Avid Xpress DV v3.5. 2. After the unistall is complete, click Install Avid Xpress DV again and continue to follow the instructions. n If you received the Avid Pan & Zoom Plug-in when you registered Avid Xpress DV 3.5, the 3.5.4 installation will not overwrite this plug-in. Version 3.5.4 Addendum

To install Avid Xpress DV v3.5.4 on Mac OS X: n The Avid Xpress DV Macintosh installer no longer requires Mac OS 9 to be installed on your system.

1. Before you install Avid Xpress DV v3.5.4, locate and double-click the Avid Xpress DV folder currently installed on your system. 2. Double-click the SupportingFiles folder and locate the AVX_Plug-Ins folder. 3. Copy or move this AVX_Plug-Ins folder to your desktop. 4. Follow the instructions in the AvidXpressDV Installer. 5. After Avid Xpress DV v3.5.4 is installed on your system, move the AVX_Plug-ins folder back into the SupportingFiles folder. n By overwriting the newly installed folder with your old plug-ins folder, this will preserve any plug-ins (including the Avid Pan & Zoom plug-in, PowerPack, or other 3rd party plug-ins) you may have originally installed.

Installing the Avid Xpress DV PowerPack CD-ROM

n The Avid Xpress DV PowerPack Macintosh installer no longer requires Mac OS9 to be installed on your system.

2 Bugs Fixed in v3.5.4 on Both Platforms

Bugs Fixed in v3.5.4 on Both Platforms

➤ After installing the Spanish User Interface you cannot create a new project after launching the application. This only occurred when you installed the Spanish .tdf file from the Avid Xpress DV Localization CD-ROM. This problem has been fixed.

➤ Using the French, German, Italian, or Spanish User Interface, an error occurred when you reentered an existing project. When you opened an existing project and then created a new project, an error occurred when you went back to open the existing project. This problem has been fixed.

➤ Avid Xpress DV fails to detect a timecode break of 12 frames during record. This problem has been fixed. Avid Xpress DV 3.5.4 detects timecode breaks.

The following bugs were fixed in Avid Xpress DV v3.5.3 CPR, and have been incorporated into this release on both platforms

➤ Application freeze for certain effects arrangements. The application could freeze for some sequences with effects arranged in a certain way. One condition is attempting to play the last effect in a sequence. You might also see an error message "DecompStream::AllocateStream ran out of streams, see console for more info." Avid has fixed all known causes of this condition.

➤ Audio and may drift over time. Many manifestations of this problem have been fixed for most platforms.

3 Version 3.5.4 Addendum

➤ Desktop play delay would not keep synch. This problem is fixed.

➤ Templates added for some decks. We have added templates for Panasonic® AJ-D455P, Sony™ DSR-25, Sony DSR-25-PAL, Sony DSR-45, Sony DSR-45P, and Sony DSR 1500A/AP decks. We have added templates for the Leitch DPS-575 transcoder for NTSC and PAL. While NTSC is fully functional, it is only possible to digitize in PAL with this transcoder (no digital cut). Leitch is aware of this problem, and they are working to correct it.

➤ Support added for Shared Projects. We have added a third radio button in the single user open project dialog called "External." It is useful in at least two contexts: 1. If you have, for example, an external FireWire® disk and you wish to carry a project around from machine to machine, choose External to create a non-local Project. 2. If you wish to share a Project on a network drive, choose External.

➤ Problems duplicating the Start TC column into TC24 column. In NTSC matchback projects, the user can "duplicate" the Start TC (30fps) column into the TC24 column for use in generating 24-frame EDLs. This operation will create 24 FPS equivalents of the values in the Start column. PowerPack only.

4 Bugs Fixed in v3.5.4 on Mac OS X Only

Bugs Fixed in v3.5.4 on Mac OS X Only

➤ "VREF NOT PRESENT" error appears after deleting a project. Introduced with Avid Xpress DV v3.5.3 CPR release, this problem is fixed.

➤ Updating your Avid Xpress DV dongle required you to run under Macintosh OS9. Previous versions of the Avid Xpress DV Dongle Updater required you to run under Macintosh OS9. This has been fixed. New versions shipped from Avid allow the Dongle Updater to run under Mac OS X.

➤ Avid EDL Manager and Mac OSX: You must use an MSDOS pre-formatted RT11 floppy. With Mac OS X, you had to format an RT11 floppy on a Macintosh OS9.2 system. With Avid EDL Manager 11.4, you no longer have to do this. You must use an MSDOS pre-formatted floppy. Most floppies sold today can be bought with this already done for you.

The following bugs were fixed in Avid Xpress DV v3.5.3 CPR, and have been incorporated into this release on Mac OS X only

➤ Avid Xpress DV now supports Mac OS 10.2 "Jaguar." n If you are updating to 10.2 and use Apple's® "Archive And Install" option, the Mac OS X 10.2 installer will remove any non-Apple items from the system folders, including components previously installed by Avid. You should re-install Avid Xpress DV 3.5.4 if you are unable to launch Avid Xpress DV after updating to 10.2. n The "Send To DVD" settings may need to be reset after upgrading. If you find that the auto-launch feature no longer works after the 10.2 upgrade, delete the DVD authoring applications from the "Send To DVD" pull-down menu and re-add them.

5 Version 3.5.4 Addendum

➤ Flash frame appears when play stops. The frame that was under the play head before playing a sequence could appear for a brief instance after pressing stop on some systems under OS 10.2. It has been fixed.

➤ On-line books on CD would not launch. This problem is fixed.

➤ Added "Help" for Avid Storage Manager.

➤ "Temp directory not found" dialog. The application now uses the current working directory and does not recreate the old directory if it does not exist.

➤ OMF loaders/savers for HIIP are now available. The installers have the correct loaders and savers which fixes the "Module not found" error that would occur trying to import or export OMF files.

➤ Importing Quicktime™ with an alpha channel was broken. This problem is fixed.

➤ Audio was two frames out of synch with video. This problem is fixed.
