This trophy was donated by Bob Campbell-Burns, past club President (1979–81) and is correctly named after his Thunderbird yacht Greenwitch. It is awarded to a yacht which has defied a changing handicap throughout the season and has continued to gain handicap places. It was first awarded in the 1975 - 76 season jointly to Julie, J Gilfillan and Lenore L Henry. Greenwitch Yardstick Trophy is determined by subtracting each yacht’s lowest handicap in the Spring and Autumn Saturday Series from the yacht’s next handicap and then multiplying the result by the yacht’s score after discards in the Overall Series and a ‘p’ factor for weighting divisions based on the average fleet sizes (see Balmain and Allan and Mick York ‘p’ factor calculations. To calculate the winner of the Greenwitch Yardstick Trophy. The Yardstick Trophy relates changing handicap and handicap results for the Overall Season 1. Calculate each yacht’s handicap (AHC) difference for successive races across the entire Overall Saturday series. (Next handicap – Previous handicap) for each race to give handicap differences 2. Add the differences (diff 1 + diff 2 …….) for all races in Spring and Autumn 3. Multiply the differences by the yachts overall points 4. Multiply by a p factor (average fleet size as above) to weight each division 5. Discard anomalous results (eg yacht only sailing one race). Note: Some score will be negative. 6. Lowest positive score wins Greenwitch Yardstick Trophy recipients - 1975 – 1976 Julie J Gilfillan Lenore L Henry 1976 – 1977 Chiff Chaff R Rogerson 1977 – 1978 Viking Wal Noske 1978 – 1979 Lenore L Henry 1979 – 1980 Lazy Susan Phil Daniels 1980 – 1981 Fun D Hillerman 1981 – 1982 Not awarded 1982 – 1983 Striking Midnight I and V Cleveland 1983 – 1984 Sprite John Amos 1984 – 1985 Cumbria P Collins 1985 – 1986 High Cs I Collins Scanti H Dudman 1986 – 1987 Not awarded 1987 – 1988 Sandpiper Peter Downs 1988 – 1989 Roleen B Pickering 1989 – 1990 Brer Rabbit Andy Fraser 1990 – 1991 True Blue D Ainsworth 1991 – 1992 Zulu Ross Turner 1992 – 1993 Gazer Denis Lane 1993 – 1994 Margaret P Giles 1994 – 1995 Charisma Charles Munster 1995 – 1996 Whitewash Andrew Davies 1996 – 1997 Oversway C Ruttley 1997 – 1998 Going Grey Mark Baker 1998 – 1999 Markim Bill Carney 1999 – 2000 Speedwell Col Geeves 2000 – 2001 Gatsby John Amos 2001 – 2002 Going Grey Mark Baker 2002 – 2003 Going Grey Mark Baker 2003 – 2004 Forte Forever Mark Baker 2004 – 2005 Flair Phil Hare 2005 – 2006 Forte Forever Mark Baker 2006 – 2007 CavSav John Veale 2007 – 2008 Flair Phil Hare 2008 – 2009 Kirralaa Jefferson Smith 2009 – 2010 Serendipity Richard Joy 2010 – 2011 Soundtrack John Amos 2011 – 2012 Zig Zag David White 2012 – 2013 CavSav John Veale 2013 – 2014 Eggshells Michael Coleman and Ritchie Lees 2014 – 2015 Solitude Phil Lucas 2015 – 2016 Umzimkulu II David Leslie 2016 – 2017 Hasta La Vista John Veale Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Trophy – Contribution to the Club Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Trophy was donated to GFS by the Australian Government in 1978.
