    Abbotsford Sailing Club News 07/04/2021 Wrap-up of the 85th 12Ft skiff Australian Championships It was an extremely lively Easter weekend at the club with all the 12ft skiff crews visiting, the racing and the dinners and socialising after the racing. The whole event was a great success, we had enough breeze to complete all the races, and the last day even offered a bit more spectacle, after some lighter days earlier in the weekend. All results, photos and videos are on our regatta page. A thank you to all the crews who participated and the 1 2ft skiff association for choosing Abbotsford for this regatta. As the president of the club, I really would like to thank all the members, friends, family and past members who helped out at the club, including the bar and canteen and the support on the water. A special thank you to Robyn and Barrie who, together with Judy, ran all the starts and finishes from Scout. A major effort and much appreciated! We will have those snacks and drinks ready for next time you are able to officiate! Also a big thank you to Tom Biskupic for being the on-shore race manager and race recorder, and keeping the race results up to date on the website. Lodge, Director Graduate Program in Biological Sciences Notre Dame, Indiana August 2009 HUMAN-MEDIATED DISPERSAL OF AQUATIC NONINDIGENOUS SPECIES: IMPACTS AND INTERVENTIONS Abstract by John D. Rothlisberger The introduction and establishment of species beyond the boundaries of their native ranges is an environmental issue of increasing scope and seriousness. This dissertation examines the consequences of the establishment of aquatic nonindigenous species (NIS) in the Laurentian Great Lakes (GL) region and also investigates alternatives for reducing anthropogenic spread of nuisance aquatic NIS. I first investigate the pathways by which aquatic NIS are introduced to the GL to learn if introduction pathway is related to where species originate and how likely they are to have spread beyond the GL basin. My analysis shows that ballast water release is highly likely to introduce new aquatic NIS to North America, whereas unauthorized release of organisms in trade tends to introduce to the GL aquatic NIS already established in North America. Moreover, it appears that it is primarily a matter of time before novel NIS that become established in the GL appear in other North American waterways. I also consider the relationship between introduction pathway and species impacts, finding that John D. Rothlisberger there is an apparent relationship, but that further study of species-specific impacts is needed to verify this finding. Given the importance of ballast water release in bringing novel species to the GL, I use a novel technique to estimate the economic impacts in the region of ecological changes caused by populations of aquatic NIS introduced by this pathway.

INTRODUCTION: Entries are invited for the Georgetown to Deviot Safari to be conducted by the Deviot Sailing Club in conjunction with the Georgetown Yacht Club on Saturday 24 March 2018. This is planned to be a fun social event rather than highly competitive race. Low water at Beauty Point is approx 1209 hrs, so boats will have the tide to assist them southwards. 2. Eligible classes All competitors must be a member of a Club affiliated with Sailing Australia, and have a Australian Sailing number. Eligible classes include: • International Mirror, Sabre, Flying 11, Laser, Pacer, NS14, Corsair, B14, 420, 470 29er, 505 • Catamaran classes and trailerable and keel boats, and motor boats. The Organizing Authority may refuse any entry for a boat deemed unsuitable for the event. All those taking part in this event do so at their own risk and responsibility. The Organizing Authority shall not be responsible for the seaworthiness of a boat whose entry has been accepted, or for the adequacy or sufficiency of its equipment. Attention is drawn to ISAF Fundamental Rule 4 which states, “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.” No member or members of the Organizing Authority, nor other party involved with this event, shall accept any responsibility for, or be liable for any accident, injury, damage or personal loss (material or otherwise) to any boat, participant or third party, before, during or after any race of the event.
