Heinäveden Grafiittikaivoksen Vaikutuksista
HEINÄVEDEN GRAFIITTIKAIVOKSEN VAIKUTUKSISTA 31.8.2018 PRO HEINÄVESI 1 LYHYESTI Grafiittikaivoshanke vaarantaisi ympäristön ja arvokkaan vesistöalueen. Vesien ja ympäristön saastumisen lisäksi kaivos haittaisi merkittävästi Heinäveden kunnan olemassa olevia sekä potentiaalisia elinkeinoja. Kaivos sijoittuisi alueelle, jossa on asumiskeskittymiä (Karvio ja Varistaipale), satoja vakituisia asuinrakennuksia ja vapaa-ajan asuntoja, Lintulan luostari ja Kermajärven laajat erinomaisessa kunnossa olevat luonnonsuojelualueet, jot- ka kuuluvat Natura 2000-ohjelmaan. Alueella elää EU-direktiivien suojaamia lajeja sekä sijaitsee valtakunnallisesti tärkeä ja alueen imagolle merkittävä Hei- näveden reitti. Kiinteistön omistajille aiheutuisi kaivoksesta jopa kymmenien miljoonien eurojen taloudelliset vahingot. Kermajärvi on myös tärkein puhtaan veden syöttäjä Saimaaseen. Toiminnanharjoittaja on kokematon varsinaisessa kaivostoiminnassa, sillä yhtiö harjoittaa ainoastaan riskirahoituspohjaista malminetsintää. Heinäveden grafiittiesiintymä sisältää merkittävästi ongelmallista sulfidirikkiä (4,5 - 5,2%). Malminetsintäalueen reunalta on Kermäjärveen, Suvasveteen ja Varisveteen alle 400m. Lyhytaikaisen (5-15 v.) kaivostoiminnan päätyttyä kaivannaisjätteet jäävät kai- vosalueelle. Ne saastuttaisivat ympäristöään satojen, jopa tuhansien vuosien ajan. Tällöin luontoon ja puhtaisiin vesistöihin perustuvat elinkeinot tulisivat alueella käytännössä pysyvästi mahdottomaksi. 2 KAIVOSHANKE LAAJENTUISI ERITTÄIN SUUREKSI Kaivoshanke voi laajentua Heinäveden lisäksi -

Enhancing Inland Navigation Intelligent Saimaa – the Finnish
Intelligent Saimaa – the Finnish EMMA pilot Lake Saimaa, located in the southeastern Finland, EMMA stretches over four different regions and is the largest lake in Finland. At approximately 4,400 square Enhancing Inland Navigation kilometres Lake Saimaa is also the fourth largest natural freshwater lake in Europe. The Saimaa Canal, 43 kilometres in length, connects Lake Saimaa with the Gulf of Finland. Navigation in the Saimaa area is challenging due to narrow routes in environmentally valuable waterways. However, for effective inland waterway shipping Saimaa Canal area is required to be passed through. Moreover, bioenergy and raw wood transport is likely to increase in Finland, creating significant transport volumes in the future and challenging the existing transport system. This pilot case aims to demonstrate an ”Intelligent Saimaa” piloting environment by analysing what kind of information a river information system (RIS) must provide in this region to develop an intelligent water transport means. Therefore transport potentials for different transport modes, including vessel transport, will be analysed. Making use of existing knowledge and concentrating on stakeholders’ needs and expectations this pilot will form a RIS pilot solution. Recommendations will also www.project-emma.eu be given to respective administrations to advance future development of RIS applications. Avainsanat: Luotsit, alukset, historiikit, vesiliikenne, s/s Saimaa Tiivistelmä Liikennevirasto tilasi vuonna 2015 metsänhoitaja Esko Pakkaselta käsikirjoituksen luotsialus Saimaan vaiheista. Aluksen rakentamisesta tulee vuonna 2018 kuluneeksi 125 vuotta.

Culture changes everything Saimaa is a place and a state of mind. On its shores we have found our own way of doing things, living, and thinking. We have found creativity in both beautiful and harsh conditions. That’s why our culture is unique − and worth discovering. We are the droplets that set in motion the power to change culture. When we hit the surface of the water together, we cause a vibration that resonates throughout the world. Culture doesn’t just change the story. It changes everything. 19th Biennial Conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals Tampa, FL, 27 November – 02 December 2011 estimated by the GLGs were then compared with estimates derived Ambient noise levels were then summarized via long-term from the two traditional methods of reading the GLGs (from the GLG spectrogram analysis, and we used automatic detection algorithms to ages not used in KAsp estimation). For the fin whales an KAsp of determine the presence of vocalizing whales. The 20 Hz pulses of fin 0.0011/yr (SE ± 0.00005) and a D/L ratio at birth ((D/L)0) of 0.028 whales (Balaenoptera physalus) were the most prominent biological (SE ± 0.0012) was determined. For the harbour porpoises a AAR rate sounds recorded. These sounds were recorded primarily in the fall and of 0.0031/yr (SE ± 0.0004) and a (D/L)0 value of 0.023 (SE ± 0.0018) early winter months. Sounds from blue whales (Balanoptera were determined. The fin whale racemization rate is in agreement musculus) and sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) were also with rates for other baleen whales, whereas the harbour porpoise rate recorded; upcalls from North Atlantic right whales (Eubalaena is considerably higher. Comparison of age estimates, of both fin glacialis) were not detected in these data. Background noise levels whales and harbour porpoises, by the AAR and the GLG methods were dominated by the sounds from seismic airguns during the spring, showed no statistical significant difference. Simultaneously with this summer and fall months; during summer these sounds were recorded study, a freshly stranded fin whale got age estimated to a 120 (SE ± in all hours of the day and in all days of a month.
