    PAULO BRANCO He was born in Lisbon in 1950. He embarked in cinema in 1974, when he started working at the Olympic cinema, with Frédéric Mitterrand. Shortly thereafter, he became responsible for the management of the Parisian Action-République room. He became a film producer in 1979, working between Paris and Lisbon. Nowadays, he is one of the most internationally renowned personalities in the world of independent production, distribution, and exhibition. With a key role in auteur cinema, Paulo Branco is known for opening the door for innumerous promising directors who would go on to become established names. To date, he has produced more than three hundred films and worked with some of the most highly appraised directors in the world, such as David Cronenberg, Jerzy Skolimowski, Wim Wenders, Chantal Akerman, Alain Tanner, Werner Schroeter, André Téchiné, Andrzej Zulawski, Christophe Honoré, Olivier Assayas, Sharunas Bartas, Paul Auster, Philippe Garrel, Mathieu Amalric, Pedro Costa, João César Monteiro, João Botelho, and João Canijo or Teresa Villaverde.
