1. INTRODUCTION

Coahuila is the third largest state in the country. Located in the North-East part of , Coahuila shares a 512 kilometer with the U.S. State of Texas. In Mexico is next to the States of Chihuahua, Durango, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosi and Nuevo Leon. CANADÁ

Location of Coahuila in Northeamerica.

Coahuila in numbers:

Represents 7.73% of the surface of the country. It has a population of 2'954, 915 inhabitants, 2.5% of the total in the country, the distribution is 90% urban and 10% rural. Schooling that is 9.9 (almost year of upper secondary education); the national average is 9.2 of schooling. Speakers of an indigenous language of 3 years and older, are 2 per 1000 people, the national level is 70 per 1000 people. The sector of activity which contributes most to State GDP are manufacturing industries, including the production of machinery and equipment. Finally, brings the 3.4% to the national GDP.

Coal-Mining Region is comprised of the municipalities of Juarez, Muzquiz, Progreso, Sabinas and San Juan de Sabinas. Is characterized by large extractions of different materials such as: coal, fluorspar, Celestite, and strontium; It also has a growing maquiladora industry.

This document provides general information about the region: geographic location, main economic activities, infrastructure, basic services, education, quality of life and tourism.

4. TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE

4.1 Airports

The Coal-Mining Region has two aerodromes: one located on Highway 57 Monclova - stones black km. 129.4 in Sabinas, Coahuila; It has a track of 1,800 meters. long by 30 meters. wide, taxiway and general platform of 113 meters. 90 m wide. long; identified as runway 11/29, currently does not operate commercial line.

The other is the aerodrome of Muzquiz, Coahuila; with a runway of 1.200 mts. 19 meters long. wide; identified as runway 13/31, currently does not either operate commercial line.

The region has easy access to the international airport in the city of Monclova "Venustiano Carranza" and to the international airport of Piedras Negras, Coahuila.

4.2 Highways and roads

 57 Federal Highway: it connects with Piedras Negras, Monclova, and Saltillo, Coahuila.; San Luis Potosí, S.L.P.; Queretaro, Qro. and Mexico, D.F.

 93 State Highway: it connects with Nueva Rosita, Palau y Múzquiz, Coah.

 95 State Highway: it connects Sabinas with Juarez, Coah.

 35 State Highway: it connects Juarez with Progreso, Coah.

 284 State Highway: it connects Progreso with the 57 Federal Highway.

 Inter-State Highway: it connects with the cities of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas and Anahuac, Nuevo Leon.

There are also comunication channels between the municipalities of the region.

4.3 Railroad

The coal mining Region has railway stations in the municipalities of Múzquiz, Juniper and San Juan de Sabinas. The stations are connected to the national railway network, allowing access to the borders, ports and major cities of the country.

A magical town is a town that has attributes unique, symbolic, true stories, transcendent events, everyday, which means a great opportunity for the tourist use according to the motivations and needs of the travellers.

Muzquiz, Coahuila.

Birthplace of men and women who fought for the progress of Mexico at different historical stages, stands out by offering the revolution more than 30 young people who became General for his military achievements. Land where traditions are preserved, with great paleontological importance and home to two local tribes: Mascogos blacks and the Kickapoo Indians.

It is currently in the process of application for incorporation to the magical towns programme.
