This name means - G for narrow gauge locomotive - e for electric drive - 6 first number = 6 axles powered - 6 second number = totally 6 axes - ' means that it is the first series Ge 6/6. The "Blue Crocodile" was in operation from 1999 to 2008. It was the machine Ge 6/6 '412. It was painted blue on the occasion of the anniversaries to 100 years Albula and 75 years Glacier-Express, in order to draw in appropriate outfit the salon train "Alpine Classic Pullman Express" through the mountains. In 2008, unfortunately, came the abrupt end. After a gearbox damage end station was on the junkyard. But today, ma- ny railway enthusiasts this vehicle is a concept. Manual for TS train driver page 4 of 21 ALPIN CLASSIC PULLMAN EXPRESS Service timetables for the train driver services in Prättigau and Davoserland To the locomotive series of the RhB crocodiles: The locomotives with the numbers 401 to 415 were built in the years 1921 - 1929. Two of these vehicles are still operational as historical vehicles at RhB today. Their use was for both passenger and freight trains on the entire Rhaetian Railway network (not on the DC operated Bernina line, where a similar machine also exists). Here are some techn. information: - Gauge 1000 mm, so called narrow or meter gauge - Length over buffer 13.3 meters - Weight, totally 66 tons - Speed max 55 Km / h - Power 1076 hp / 940 kW The fact that in addition to the two Rhaetian Railway still working "crocodiles" 2 of the 15 machines managed to be preserved as a monument shows the importance of this Loktyp's: - 402 is now in the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne - 406 is in the railway museum Kerzers / Kallnach - 407 stands as a monument in Bergün - 411 is in the museum in Munich - 412 made history in blue livery until demolition in 2008 Manual for TS train driver page 5 of 21 ALPIN CLASSIC PULLMAN EXPRESS Service timetables for the train driver services in Prättigau and Davoserland 2.2 Driver's cab and start-up For commissioning is only necessary: - Pantograph up (key P) - switch on the light (key H) - Reversing switch forward (key W) - release the train brake (key ü) The locomotive has 3 brake systems: - Apply train brake = release key ö = press ü - Apply loco brake = release key ^ = key ? - Dynamic Brake = key , release = key . The dynamic Brake (electric brake) only works when the driving switch at position 0. Driving switch is the big handwheel. This switches the gears. Door operation and stop register at stations: - First press button T to register the stop - doors open on the left = button U on the right = button O - Doors close on both sides = L key Manual for TS train driver page 6 of 21 ALPIN CLASSIC PULLMAN EXPRESS Service timetables for the train driver services in Prättigau and Davoserland 2.3 Keyboard assignment and operation with the mouse Based on the route of "Heidi-Express" by Simtrain.ch, the keyboard shortcuts are largely a- ligned with this product. The commissioning of the crocodile locomotive was kept simpler, but keyboard commands and clickable icons in the interface F4 are functional. Ecotourism and the Transport Network: A Question of Sustainability SORUPIA, Eden ECOTOURISM AND THE TRANSPORT NETWORK: A QUESTION OF SUSTAINABILITY SORUPIA, Eden Senior Lecturer, University of the Philippines ABSTRACT This paper identifies policies and structures which contribute to improve the sustainability of a transport network that serves an ecotourism destination. It looks into the sustainability of the modes available to the public and the level of public transport services, which are deemed important indicators. The experiences and current practices of the Swiss National Park (SNP) in Switzerland and Iguaçu National Park (PNI) in Brazil are analysed as case studies to evaluate and compare strategies that work and why these work. Findings show that although ecotourism destinations support biologically diverse areas, the car remains the major mode to the national parks even with reliable public transport services. This unsustainable travel behaviour can be reversed by changing the balance of transport incentives and disincentives and encouraging mode shift to more sustainable modes. Keywords: ecotourism, sustainable development, sustainable transport, transport network, national parks UNDERSTANDING ECOTOURISM AND THE ROLE OF TRANSPORT Sustainable development and ecotourism were the catchphrases of the 1990s. The former encourages everyone to rethink their utilisation of resources and stresses the importance of taking into consideration the needs of future generations. The latter term involves travel to natural areas rich in biodiversity. Ecotourism became the trend after popular destinations lost their appeal, and going off the beaten track to rediscover the wild was all the rage. Since then, conservationists have been lamenting the loss of biodiversity and attributing this to the increasing visitation and subsequent invasion of tourism of wildlife habitat.

WHICH SIDE OF THE TRAIN SHOULD I SIT ON? BLS LÖTSCHBERG ROUTE Pages 2 to 3 JUNGFRAU REGION Pages 4 to 6 RHÄTISCHE BAHN Pages 7 to 8 The BLS line from Spiez to Brig via the original Lötschberg Tunnel. As you may already know, since the opening of the Lötschberg Base Tunnel it is now possible to travel between Spiez and Brig in less than 30 minutes. The tunnel starts at Frutigen and exits just before Visp, very quick but obviously completely lacking in scenery. A far more interesting journey is to join one of the BLS “Lötschberger” units at Spiez and go to Brig via the original tunnel between Kandersteg and Goppenstein. The journey does take about an hour but the scenery on a fine day is spectacular. The “Lötschberger” units have both low floor and higher seating areas in standard class and I hope the following guide may be of some help. Please note that if you change sides of the train too often it may annoy/mystify your fellow passengers. I am assuming you will want to sit in the direction of travel. Spiez to Reichenbach Sit on the right hand side (view of the BLS shed and after the Hondrich Tunnel the River Kander. If you stop at Mülenen Station (this is a request stop) the building itself, on the left hand side, has been renovated and you will see the terminus station of the Niesen funicular on the right). Reichenbach to Frutigen Left hand side (view over the Kiental and then as you approach Frutigen the lines for trains, both passenger and freight, going through the Base Tunnel can be seen).

The stretch was originally operated with steam engines but electrifi ed in 1919. Despite continuous adaptations to changing requirements, the original alignment has been preserved virtually throughout and is still used for its original purpose. The Bernina line was constructed between 1906 and 1910 as an electrifi ed surface railway linked with the power stations on the south side of the Bernina Pass, and for better access to the natu- ral scenery that is so attractive to tourists. However, modifi cations to the alignment and inno- vations in terms of snow clearance and protective measures for the track proved necessary to permit services to be operated all the year round.
