4Èmes Rencontres D'art Rupestre Du Centre National De Préhistoire 16 Et 17 Mai 2013 À L'auditorium Du Musée National De Préhistoire, Les Eyzies 4èmes Rencontres d'art rupestre du Centre National de Préhistoire 16 et 17 Mai 2013 à l'auditorium du Musée National de Préhistoire! les "#$ies Ces journées sont destinées aux échanges entre chercheurs et étudiants de différents horizons partageant des problématiques et des pratiques qui, au-delà de leur diversité apparente, sont au service de l'étude de l'art rupestre. Une demi-journée (vendredi "# matin) sera consacrée à la présentation des actualités de la recherche en art pariétal et rupestre. %%% & Penser les contextes en art rupestre ( méthodes, expériences, perspectives * %%% Notion fondamentale de l'archéologie, le contexte, son sens et ses usages n'en ont pas moins évolué au cours du temps. & l'origine constitué pour désigner les regroupements définis par la lecture des enregistrements archéologiques, il prend en considération les informations extrinsèques d'un objet, une œuvre, ou un site. Dans un sens plus large, avec ou sans adjectif, il désigne aussi les conditions environnementales, naturelles et anthropologiques et se trouve, de fait, très lié à la pluridisciplinarité des études. En archéologie de l'art rupestre, cette pierre angulaire de notre raisonnement reste souvent perçue comme un objectif à atteindre, voire un mo,en de s'affranchir des grands schémas d'interprétation ou d'évolution chrono-stylistiques trop généraux et simplificateurs. Il devient ainsi une approche à part entière, avec ses cadres théoriques et ses démarches analytiques. Les rencontres d'art rupestre seront l'occasion d'évoquer différents contextes et approches de contextualisation utilisés dans les études d'art pariétal et rupestre. Ho1ever its meaning and uses has evolved through time. 8riginally designed to allo1 the groupings of data derived from the archaeological records, it takes into account extrinsic information of an artefact, an art1or2 or a site. In its wider meaning, it refers to past environmental natural or anthropic conditions. Thus the context is strongly related to the multifaceted rock art studies. Within the archaeology of rock art, this ma, appear as a cornerstone of our reasoning, which is often perceived as a goal to reach, or a 1a, of avoiding generic interpretation or stylistic chronology, which in turn are too broad or simplistic. So contextual studies become a proper frame1or2 for research, with its own theoretical precincts and analytical processes. With more than 30 decorated caves in the region, it is one of the world’s richest areas in Palaeolithic artwork. My project explores the social and cultural dimensions associated with non-figurative cave images. Non-figurative artwork accounts for any image that does not represent real world objects. My primary objectives are: (1) To produce the first detailed account of non-figurative cave art in Cantabria; (2) To examine the relationships between figurative and non-figurative images; and (3) To analyse the many cultural and symbolic meanings associated to non- figurative images. To do so, I construct a database documenting the various features of non-figurative imagery in Cantabria. Its pro- duction was complex and varied all around the world, considering the sources of local materials used for its pro- duction as well technological knowledge about the manufacturing process. The aim of this work is to put some light on glass jewelry unearthed during the archeological excavations at the Main Market Square in Kraków, and to increase the importance of a stratifications investigation of ancient subjects by induced corrosion, using glass sensors. The collected data helps to determinate the definitive condition of a historical object. This data will also help to establish the chemical nature of the corrosion products and the altered glass and metal surfaces. Bayesian modelling of radiocarbon dates Radiocarbon dates were collected through a literature review and dealt with as described in the methods section of the main text. Where multiple radiocarbon dates were available, along with detailed stratigraphic information from the excavators, Bayesian models were built using Oxcal 4.2. Individual site models, along with the stratigraphic and site bibliography can be found in Collins (2012). Tables S1 and S2 show the radiocarbon dates used for the analysis, divided into those used for the Bayesian models, and those that could not be modelled. While no filtering of dates was undertaken, the use of Bayesian models, alongside outlier analysis, on the modelled dates should elucidate the impact of applying filters. The use of Bayesian modelling restricts the range of the posterior probability distribution, based on formalized stratigraphic information. The use of outlier analysis also down-weights the importance of outlying dates in the model, and the posterior distribution of a date identified as an outlier can be very different to the prior (unmodelled) distribution for the same date. Radiocarbon sample pretreatment methods have advanced dramatically since the early days of chronometric dating, most notably with the introduction of ultrafiltration since the early 2000s in order to reduce contamination in samples (Higham et al. 2006). In recent years several re-dating programmes have been undertaken at Palaeolithic sites, often producing very different results from the samples dated using earlier pretreatment protocols.

    Defining Magdalenian cultural groups in Franco-Cantabria by the formal analysis of portable artworks ∗ Olivia Rivero & Georges Sauvet The motifs, techniques and stylistic features of Upper Palaeolithic art offer enormous Paris potential for the investigation of social and cultural interactions in south-western France and northern Spain during the later stages of the last ice age. The key regions of Aquitaine, Cantabria and the Pyrenees clearly share an overall family resemblance, but detailed analysis of horse heads on portable objects of bone, antler and stone from Magdalenian contexts reveal that particular features can be attributed to different Madrid regions at different periods. Furthermore, the 0 km 500 patterns of interconnection are structured very N differently in the Upper Magdalenian than in the Middle Magdalenian, perhaps as rising temperatures in the latter period led to territorial expansion and social realignment.
