This success matched only once in our club’s proud history in the 1970’s, the first time however that all top three turf sides have made grand finals in the same season, as well as one synthetic team. To win a flag in a season is a good achievement but to win three, with our 2nd XI team falling just short, is extraordinary. To witness our 1st XI break a 27 year flag drought at home in front of a large Heathmont crowd, with a magnificent ton from Ben Morris and in Tim McCann’s 300th game, will forever be a lasting memory. Upon reflection, the enormity of these achievements cannot be singled out to this season alone as the club has been building towards an exciting era for some time, and there was much anticipation following last year’s finals campaign. Well done to the captains, Tim, Ian, Steve & Mick, all the players, committee and volunteers for their commitment. I would also like to acknowledge our coaching team of Steve Rimer, Robbie Hughes and Blake Clancy. Your contribution both on and off the training track has certainly steered our club in a direction to achieve our ultimate success, a job well done in your second season at the club. We again welcomed some new recruits, Lahiru Silva on loan from Sri Lanka, Matt Jones, Ash Lamba, Chris Watt, Josh Quinlan and the Irish Family, with Scott Carroll and the Gemenis brothers all returning to the club. Combined with our established playing group the depth was complete, ensuring spots were eagerly

Pete has been central to this club for as long as I've been associated with it and I was thrilled that the Club was able to formally acknowledge Pete's many year contribution with the unveiling this year of the 'Peter Filmer Honour Board'. One of our driving values at the Club remains 'Increasing Participation in Cricket' and to this extent, season 2009/10 exceeded our expectations of success (even for Springwood Cricket) both on and off the field.

This approach to our game starts from our Milo Have-A Go program co-ordinated by Adam Thomas through to our Under 8’s a to Under 16 competitions right through to our seniors. In addition, as with all years, there is much that also goes on behind the scenes by many people to enable our cricketers to take the field and I’m very grateful for these ever passionate volunteers for their time and energies.

  • It's 40 Years Since World Series Cricket Changed Everything, From
The towering figure of Tony Greig. It’s 40 years since World Series Cricket changed everything, from the way the game was played to the way it was televised – the way, in fact, sport was televised. It introduced coloured apparel, lights, day-night Tests and one-dayers – the list is endless. People look back now with fondness at the WSC revolt, suggested at first by Dennis Lillee, instigated by some of the world’s best players, funded by Kerry Packer. Two of our interviewees, Clive Rice and Tony Greig, are now sadly departed, but our intrepid correspondent, CRISPIN ANDREWS, had long-ago managed to get their thoughts on the Packer revolution. He managed to track down many of the other protagonists recently. Here are their memories of one of the biggest upheavals ever witnessed in world sport. INSIDE CRICKET 51 DECEMBER 2017 Packer faces some of the music he helped create, after the news of WSC broke. n December 2, 1977, an Australian and didn’t hesitate to sign, and then sign up as team captained by Ian Chappell faced “I’D PUT IT ON THE much talent as he could, for Packer’s “circus”, Clive Lloyd’s West Indians at as it was dubbed then.
