More often than not a change creates adversity and uncertainty, consequently adoption becomes a criterion for failure. After the success of the 2011/12 season where all senior sides made the finals and two premierships were won, some would argue why change. Paul Perry and Tim McCann direction through the senior group have been major contributors before and during their coaching tenure of the Heathmont Cricket Club. Consequently replacing them was not an easy decision. The opportunity to employ a professional cricket coach, Lal Jayasinghe, with international experience became a priority to the club’s change of direction. A non-playing coach is not a common approach amongst clubs at our level and I believe it is the first time our club has undertaken this approach. Through the support of both Paul and Tim the transition to Lal was uncomplicated and a precursor towards another successful season. Their input to the new arrangement is testament to their commitment to the Heathmont Cricket Club. Lal’s acceptance and work within the club was beyond expectations. The objectives of setting new challenges, developing the younger plays and providing support for our junior coaches were achieved. The work is not finished and Lal will continue as the Club Coach and Tim will continue in the Club Captain role. The challenge is not for these two

Pete has been central to this club for as long as I've been associated with it and I was thrilled that the Club was able to formally acknowledge Pete's many year contribution with the unveiling this year of the 'Peter Filmer Honour Board'. One of our driving values at the Club remains 'Increasing Participation in Cricket' and to this extent, season 2009/10 exceeded our expectations of success (even for Springwood Cricket) both on and off the field.

This approach to our game starts from our Milo Have-A Go program co-ordinated by Adam Thomas through to our Under 8’s a to Under 16 competitions right through to our seniors. In addition, as with all years, there is much that also goes on behind the scenes by many people to enable our cricketers to take the field and I’m very grateful for these ever passionate volunteers for their time and energies.

The towering figure of Tony Greig. It’s 40 years since World Series Cricket changed everything, from the way the game was played to the way it was televised – the way, in fact, sport was televised. It introduced coloured apparel, lights, day-night Tests and one-dayers – the list is endless. People look back now with fondness at the WSC revolt, suggested at first by Dennis Lillee, instigated by some of the world’s best players, funded by Kerry Packer. Two of our interviewees, Clive Rice and Tony Greig, are now sadly departed, but our intrepid correspondent, CRISPIN ANDREWS, had long-ago managed to get their thoughts on the Packer revolution. He managed to track down many of the other protagonists recently. Here are their memories of one of the biggest upheavals ever witnessed in world sport.
