  • Fine Art Letterhead Copy
432 W. Pender Vancouver BC Independently Owned & Operated. The following guide is meant to give you an idea of how to put together a resume that you can use to apply for bartending jobs. The restaurant & bar industry is not a very formal industry. A lot of the rules you would learn about in university etc.. about putting together a resume don't apply. For example; if you were applying to a law firm to be a lawyer, you would expect your potential employer to read every word of your 3 page CV, call all your references, etc.. Obviously you wouldn't trim your accomplishments down to 1 page, but thats whats expected of you in the bar industry. Your goal when writing a resume for the bar industry is to make your points quickly. Bar managers spend 5 - 10 seconds skimming over your resume, and call references less than 50% of the time. Many managers would rather you come in and work 1 night and see how you do, than spend 10 minutes calling your references. Point being, the restaurant world is much different than most when it comes to building a resume. We hope our 5 tips will give you a good idea of how to get started. 1 The Basics How many pages do you think a resume should be? In the hospitality world, the correct answer is 1. In my own experience going through hundreds of resumes over the years, I found myself looking at a resume for about 5-10 seconds before deciding if I should invite someone in for an interview, or toss it in the trash.

  • INTRODUCTION “So a Guy Walks Into a Bar and Asks the Bartender…..”
Bartender Tips, Tricks and Drink Recipes INTRODUCTION “So a guy walks into a bar and asks the bartender…..” How many jokes have you heard start out that way. The bartender is the main focus of any commercial bar. Forget about the waitresses. Sure they bring the drinks, but the bartender has to make them. Forget about the fry cooks serving up greasy fries. It‟s the bartender who has made you crave them. Bartenders have enjoyed a long and storied history. They are the psychiatrists that you don‟t have to have an appointment for. They are the ones you hear all the best jokes from. They are the ones who show you the neatest bar tricks to impress your friends. The bartender, for some people, is the best friend they never had. Tending bar is more than just pouring a cold draught beer or mixing up a mean screwdriver. With all the new drink combinations out these days, bartenders must be up on all the new terminology not to mention having the ability to mix up an Alabama Slammer without looking in the recipe book. Bartending schools are popping up all over the country. Lured by the enticement of cash tips for serving the drunken public, bartending has been elevated to an art form. When the movie “Cocktail” came out, bartenders sought out the ability to twirl bottles and throw them up in the air as the bottle pours a perfect shot before it lands softly in their hand. Few can argue this is something not the everyday Joe can do.

Global invasive plants in Thailand and its status and a case study of Hydrocotyle umbellata L. Siriporn Zungsontiporn Weed Science Group, Plant Protection Research and Development Office, Department of Agriculture, Bangkok, Thailand 10900 Email: [email protected] Summary Global invasive plant may invade in some countries, but it is not invasive plant in its native country or in range of distribution. Those plants are utilized in some means, such as vegetable, fruit, ornamental plant or medicinal plant in it native country or even it was invasive plant but people learned how to manage with that plant, they can utilize it. On the contrary way, an invasive plant of any country may not be invasive in any country else. Most of the invasive plants are intentionally introduced to a country for some purpose especially for ornamental plant. Hydrocotyle umbrellata L. was introduced to Thailand as ornamental plant, the plant can grow well and with some habit of invasive plant of this plant, nowadays the plant was found in many natural areas as weed. Introduction Most of invasive plant in an area is alien plant which was introduced from different habitat within a country or other country across geographic barrier. Well development of transportation stimulates traveling and international trading which cause of increasing introduction of alien species. Some of introduced alien plants can establish and spread out if it can adapt itself to survive in the new habitat well. If the environment of new habitat is suitable for it growth, the plant may express it invasiveness and compete for space and nutrient with native plant which it may complete over native plants due to lack of it natural enemy in new habitat.

  • From Lower Canadian Colonists to Bermudan Convicts – Political Slavery and the Politics of Unfreedom
“By What Authority Do You Chain Us Like Felons?”: From Lower Canadian Colonists to Bermudan Convicts – Political Slavery and the Politics of Unfreedom Jarett Henderson, Mount Royal University At 3:00 PM on 2 July 1838, Wolfred Nelson stepped, for the first time since his arrest in December 1837, outside the stone walls of the newly built Montreal Gaol. Iron shackles hung from his wrists and ankles. Heavy chains bound him to Robert Bouchette, who, like 515 other Lower Canadian reformers, had been arrested under the auspices of leading an insurrection against the British empire. That July day Nelson, Bouchette, and six other white British subjects – often identified as patriots – began a journey that took them from Montreal to Quebec to Hamilton, the capital of the British penal colony of Bermuda. Their procession from the gaol to the Canada steamer moored in the St. Lawrence provided these eight men one final opportunity to demonstrate their frustration with irresponsible colonial government. The rhetoric of political enslavement once used by Nelson to agitate for reform had been replaced with iron shackles. This symbol of unfreedom was both personal and political. Furthermore, it provides a vivid example of how Nelson, Bouchette, and their fellow compatriots Rodolphe DesRivières, Henri Gauvin, Siméon Marchesseault, Luc Masson, Touissant Goddu, and Bonaventure Viger’s ideas about the reach of empire had encouraged their political engagement and transformed them from loyal to disloyal, from free to unfree, and from civil to uncivil subjects. Though there is little record of the removal of these men from Lower Canada, we must not take this as an indication that their transportation to Bermuda went unnoticed.
