1960 to 1969 SECTION 2: BREED DEVELOPMENT 2.8 – 1960 to 1969 Around the World No doubt the baby boomers will remember the sixties for the musical revolution which evolved over the period. For those of us who lived through them, it was a wonderful time in our lives. So many legends, the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Big O(Roy Orbison), Cliff Richard, Peter Paul and Mary. In Australia we had Normie Rowe and The Seekers. And of course there was the Twist and the Go-Go dancing. Memorable songs of the period included The Twist, Run Around Sue, Moon River, Crying, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, I Want to Hold Your Hand, Oh Pretty Woman, Respect, Dock of the Bay, Stand by Your Man, Crazy, Strangers in the Night, The Carnival is Over. Television really took off in a gigantic way. After school children tuned into shows such as Gilligan’s Island, Andy Griffiths Show, Bewitched, The Addams Family, The Flintstones, Batman, I Dream of Jeannie, Lost in Space, The Man from Uncle, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and Coronation Street. We met up with friends at the local cinema, rolled jaffas down the aisles while watching movies such as Pollyanna, Swiss Family Robinson and The Parent Trap. Other family movies which come to mind are The Sound of Music with Julie Andrews and My Fair Lady with Audrey Hepburn. The drive-in movie (with our parents) was a real treat. At school the children would be given milk every morning before recess and in several parts of the world they were still dipping pens in ink wells. All dark heavy wooden furniture gave way to Retro furniture. The corner shop was important for ice-creams, milk shakes and bags of mixed lollies (sweets/candy). We had swap cards, yo-yos, knucklebones(jacks) and marbles and in the schoolyard, we had hula hoops and played hop scotch and elastics. No-one wore a helmet when riding a bike and there were certainly no seatbelts in cars. The mini skirt and bikinis became the norm. Very few mothers went out to work. No shops opened on Sundays and the meals were very simple (in OZ anyway) with meat and three vegetables for dinner each night. Everyone got dressed up to go into town, the ladies always wearing hats and gloves in the trains. Gloves were even worn by ladies in the show ring, hats too! The young girls enjoyed wearing knee high boots. They used pale lipstick, black eyeliner and false eyelashes to get “the look”. The Average Wage in the USA in the 1960s was USD $5315, the median house price $12700, the average price of a car $2600 and the average price of bread was twenty two cents. • An Amber Attractions Production the Golden Days of Australian Bandstand a Musical Look at 60'S Culture
An Amber Attractions Production The Golden days of Australian Bandstand A musical look at 60's Culture Australia’s longest running TV pop show ran for 15 years on channel nine and was beamed into, two million Australian loungeroom’s each week. Hosted by the mild mannered Brian Henderson, it featured regular Australian singers who became known as the "Bandstand Family". The show popularised the talents of Col Joye, Little Patti, Bryan Davies, Judy Stone, The Seekers, Johnny Farnham and The Bee Gees to name a few. As the program grew in popularity the audience was introduced to many overseas stars such as Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, Tom Jones, Hermans Hermits, Chubby Checker plus many more. While other pop shows presented screaming fans and long-haired beat groups, Bandstand somehow seemed to ignore the extreme trends in music that happened in the mid and late 1960s. Although it showcased a range of pop performers, it shied away from the brash and the scruffy, becoming a more family orientated programme than a show strictly for teenagers. Each episode featured the "Bandstand Ballet" who kept the audience up to date with the latest dance trends. The Audience will RE-LIVE those swinging days of BANDSTAND. Be transported back to their loungeroom's with memorable Film clips BOP along with the DANCERS on screen and sing their heart's out to those unforgettable songs. Produced and Presented by Australia's favourite entertainers, Eddie Daniels and Suzie Lee. BANDSTAND Playlist examples Happy Together - The Turtles Boom bang a Bang - Lulu Do

  • Sporting Group Study Guide Naturally Active and Alert, Sporting Dogs Make Likeable, Well-Rounded Companions
Sporting Group Study Guide Naturally active and alert, Sporting dogs make likeable, well-rounded companions. Remarkable for their instincts in water and woods, many of these breeds actively continue to participate in hunting and other field activities. Potential owners of Sporting dogs need to realize that most require regular, invigorating exercise. The breeds of the AKC Sporting Group were all developed to assist hunters of feathered game. These “sporting dogs” (also referred to as gundogs or bird dogs) are subdivided by function—that is, how they hunt. They are spaniels, pointers, setters, retrievers, and the European utility breeds. Of these, spaniels are generally considered the oldest. Early authorities divided the spaniels not by breed but by type: either water spaniels or land spaniels. The land spaniels came to be subdivided by size. The larger types were the “springing spaniel” and the “field spaniel,” and the smaller, which specialized on flushing woodcock, was known as a “cocking spaniel.” ~~How many breeds are in this group? 31~~ 1. American Water Spaniel a. Country of origin: USA (lake country of the upper Midwest) b. Original purpose: retrieve from skiff or canoes and work ground c. Other Names: N/A d. Very Brief History: European immigrants who settled near the great lakes depended on the region’s plentiful waterfowl for sustenance. The Irish Water Spaniel, the Curly-Coated Retriever, and the now extinct English Water Spaniel have been mentioned in histories as possible component breeds. e. Coat color/type: solid liver, brown or dark chocolate. A little white on toes and chest is permissible.

We pay respect to their Elders past, present and emerging. MESSAGES Premier of Queensland & Minister Welcome to the 2019 Australian Women in Music Awards. The Queensland Government is proud to support this showcase event for a second year. It is a fabulous way to pay tribute to the many talented women who are creating music or working behind the scenes to support Australia’s Annastacia Palaszczuk MP flourishing music industry. PREMIER OF QUEENSLAND MINISTER FOR TRADE We are delighted the Awards have returned to Queensland, home to some of this country’s finest female musicians. We recognise however, that while they have found success and been embraced by audiences the world over, there are many other gifted women just like them, right across Australia, who are struggling to break through because of gender barriers. Female artists tend to earn less than male performers, receive less airplay on Australian radio and hold little more than one-quarter of senior and strategic roles in key music industry associations. Shining a dedicated spotlight on these issues and recognising the exceptional work of female artists and industry professionals, is a vital step in creating greater visibility and opportunities for all Australian women in music. This is what these Awards are about. We congratulate this year’s winners, cheer on all those who are following MINISTERDi FOR Farmer CHILD SAFETY,MP YOUTH in their rhythmic footsteps, and wish everyone a memorable time AND WOMEN AND MINISTER FOR celebrating outstanding female talent.

  • A BRIEF HISTORY of the GOLDEN RETRIEVER © Golden Retriever Club of America
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE GOLDEN RETRIEVER © Golden Retriever Club of America In the 1800s in Scotland and England, hunting was both sport and a practical way of obtaining food. Retrievers became popular when the breechloading shotgun demanded an efficient retrieving dog for both waterfowl and upland game. All retriever breeds can trace back to the waterloving St Johns dog of Newfoundland, ancestor of the wavycoated retriever which contributed to both the FlatCoat and the Golden. The most complete records of the origin of the Golden Retriever are included in the record book kept from about 1840 until 1890 by Dudley Marjoribanks, first Lord Tweedmouth, at his Guisachan estate in the Scottish Highlands. These records were made public in 1952 by Lord Tweedmouth's greatnephew, the sixth Lord Ilchester. Further information and additional pedigree research was published by Elma Stonex. In 1865 Dudley Marjoribanks bought "Nous", the single yellow pup in a litter of black wavycoated retrievers. Photos of Nous show a handsome, sturdy dog with a wavy coat, quite recognizably a Golden. Nous was bred with Belle, a Tweed Water Spaniel, resulting in four yellow pups that became the foundation of the breed. Through several generations of clever breeding, Marjoribanks created a consistent line of exceptional working retrievers. To the main line from Nous and Belle, he added another Tweed Water Spaniel, a couple of black wavycoated retrievers, and a red setter, retaining primarily the yellow pups. Working ability and retrieving aptitude were paramount, requiring a strong, biddable dog that could withstand cold and cope with the demanding terrain of the Highlands.
