An Amber Attractions Production the Golden Days of Australian Bandstand a Musical Look at 60'S Culture An Amber Attractions Production The Golden days of Australian Bandstand A musical look at 60's Culture Australia’s longest running TV pop show ran for 15 years on channel nine and was beamed into, two million Australian loungeroom’s each week. Hosted by the mild mannered Brian Henderson, it featured regular Australian singers who became known as the "Bandstand Family". The show popularised the talents of Col Joye, Little Patti, Bryan Davies, Judy Stone, The Seekers, Johnny Farnham and The Bee Gees to name a few. As the program grew in popularity the audience was introduced to many overseas stars such as Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, Tom Jones, Hermans Hermits, Chubby Checker plus many more. While other pop shows presented screaming fans and long-haired beat groups, Bandstand somehow seemed to ignore the extreme trends in music that happened in the mid and late 1960s. Although it showcased a range of pop performers, it shied away from the brash and the scruffy, becoming a more family orientated programme than a show strictly for teenagers. Each episode featured the "Bandstand Ballet" who kept the audience up to date with the latest dance trends. The Audience will RE-LIVE those swinging days of BANDSTAND. Be transported back to their loungeroom's with memorable Film clips BOP along with the DANCERS on screen and sing their heart's out to those unforgettable songs. Produced and Presented by Australia's favourite entertainers, Eddie Daniels and Suzie Lee. CAST : Eddie Daniels: Eddie Daniels started his Cabaret career in the 80's. At this time he was crowned the “King of Cabaret” and labelled as a “Master Performer” by the Sydney entertainment critics, a well earned accolade from hard critics in a very competitive market. As a perfectionist, near enough was never good enough as he created his first full production show “Legends in Concert “. The show was a huge success and set the standard for future shows. His amazing stage presence captures his audience as soon as he walks on stage. With an incredible vocal range of over 3 octaves and the ability to re-create the vocal sounds of the greatest singers from the 60’s, Eddie Daniels is unique ! Quote: Entertainment Magazine “Eddie Daniels is a vocal impressionist and is very good at it. His greatest attribute is his natural stage presence and easy communication with the audience. His professionalism feels as though he was born on stage. With a voice ranging from good to excellent Eddie is very entertaining. Like all good artists vocal and otherwise Eddie has matured and improved, he has discovered and discarded all the devices that don’t work and found or created ones that do, this dedication coupled with his inherent vocal ability have resulted in his deserved recognition”……… Encore magazine Sydney Suzie Lee: Developed her career as a successful session and back up singer but It wasn’t long before her talent bought her to the front where she featured with Eddie Daniels in “Legends in Concert” as Cher in the “Sonny and Cher” segment of the show She developed the character so well that “Cher” became her forte, resulting in the lead role of her own shows – “Turn Back Time” and “The Cher Experience“. Suzie headlined at venues across the nation and supported the Drifters for their Australian Tour. Suzie was selected as one of the “Top 6“ Australian Tribute acts to be featured on “The Big E” TV program in the UK along with Bjorn again and the Beatnix and was voted Europe’s most popular Cher tribute act. It wasn't long before other Diva's of the day were added to her repertoire - Cilla Black, Lulu, Petula Clark ect COMMENTS: "Thanks Eddie and Suzie for entertaining us with such an enjoyable and fun night. It was great to see so many people singing along as you took us on a journey to a golden era of music". Hope to see you back in WA soon. 8 – 9 OCTOBER –A– –B– “The most important journey is the one of the spirit, for your internal peace relies on it.” Olivia Newton-John AC, OBE Acknowledgement of Country Australian Women in Music Awards acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which we meet, celebrate, dance and sing. We pay respect to their Elders past, present and emerging. MESSAGES Premier of Queensland & Minister Welcome to the 2019 Australian Women in Music Awards. The Queensland Government is proud to support this showcase event for a second year. It is a fabulous way to pay tribute to the many talented women who are creating music or working behind the scenes to support Australia’s Annastacia Palaszczuk MP flourishing music industry. PREMIER OF QUEENSLAND MINISTER FOR TRADE We are delighted the Awards have returned to Queensland, home to some of this country’s finest female musicians. We recognise however, that while they have found success and been embraced by audiences the world over, there are many other gifted women just like them, right across Australia, who are struggling to break through because of gender barriers. Female artists tend to earn less than male performers, receive less airplay on Australian radio and hold little more than one-quarter of senior and strategic roles in key music industry associations. Shining a dedicated spotlight on these issues and recognising the exceptional work of female artists and industry professionals, is a vital step in creating greater visibility and opportunities for all Australian women in music. This is what these Awards are about. We congratulate this year’s winners, cheer on all those who are following MINISTERDi FOR Farmer CHILD SAFETY,MP YOUTH in their rhythmic footsteps, and wish everyone a memorable time AND WOMEN AND MINISTER FOR celebrating outstanding female talent.

  • The Vietnam War
11 The Vietnam War Noah Riseman ‘There was a lot of things that were done that shouldn’t be done and all that business, but when you’re there and that, you’ve got to put that out of your mind and all that business to stay alive and the idea is to keep one another alive and look after one another.’ – Roy Mundine The Vietnam War was one of Australia’s longest and most divisive conflicts, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were as involved as non-Indigenous people were. Australia sent its first group of 30 military advisors to South Vietnam in 1962, as the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam. A major escalation of Australia’s commitment came in June 1965 when, at the request of the US government, Australia sent the 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) to support the US 173rd Airborne Brigade. In March 1966 Australia moved its enlarged Vietnam taskforce to the newly constructed Nui Dat base in Phuoc Tuy Province, south-west of Saigon. It was here that the majority of Australian soldiers served, although medical units and smaller contingents of RAAF and Navy personnel were based in the coastal town of Vung Tau. This town would also be the site of Australian soldiers’ rest and convalescence leave and the accompanying drinking, brawls and sexual encounters with local women (not to mention with other American and Australian men). As the US slowly withdrew its forces under the auspices of Vietnamisation, so too did Australia begin to draw down its troops from late 1970.

  • Countdown and Cult Music Television Programmes
Giuffre, Liz Countdown and Cult Music Television Programmes Countdown and cult music television programmes: an Australian case study Liz Giuffre Abstract Music television programs, programs that focus on music for their core content, have been produced all over the world for all types of markets. However there remains little sustained work on them beyond studies of key production periods, franchise waves or biography-like narratives. This article shows that theories of Cult TV can be applied to music television programs to help explore this neglected form, as well as helping to expand Cult TV’s theoretical reach beyond its traditional fare of narrative driven, fiction series. This article offers 1970s and ‘80s Australian music television program Countdown as a prime example of Cult TV, first in the context of its initial production and consumption in 1970s and ‘80s Australia, and also in terms of its subsequent influence on contemporary audiences from a historical perspective. The Cult TV frame extends to the program itself in its original incarnation, as well as additional recontextualisations in new music television programs, and the continued work of its former host, Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum. Introduction1 Music television is an unusual type of programming. It provides both regular entertainment that is watched intensely while on air, and produces key moments that survive well in audience collective memory. ‘Live’ music performance and interview series Countdown remains an icon of the Australian television and music industries.2 Created by the national public service broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC),3 the show was broadcast from 1974 to 1987 on Sunday evenings and was highly influential with television audiences and the broader music industry.4 Countdown provided opportunities for music artists and audiences to engage with each other in a way that had not previously been possible.

SYNOPSIS Based on a true story: DANGER CLOSE begins with Major Harry Smith [Travis Fimmel], the strict and highly motivated commander of Delta Company, 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, on operation in Nui Dat, Phuoc Tuy Province, Vietnam. Delta Company is made up four platoons; 10, 11 and 12 platoons and a Company HQ, a total of 108 men. Harry is a career officer and he has no time to ‘coddle’ or befriend the men in his company. He feels that ‘babysitting’ these young men - half of which are conscripts - is beneath his special forces skills and previous combat experience. But with a point to prove, Harry is keen to show what his men, and importantly, he can do to make the best of a harrowing situation.
