This tour begins with a spectacular flight from Kathmandu or train journey from mainland China and the first some days of adventure trip will be spent in the old city of Lhasa. This time will allow for excellent sightseeing and proper acclimatization. After a while, the trip departs in four-wheel drive along the amazing Friendship Highway towards northern base camp of Mt. Lhasa to Kathmandu Everest Base Camp/Itinerary Day 1: Arrival at Lhasa [3,595m] Arrive at Lhasa from Kathmandu, Nepal. While flying from Kathmandu, enjoy the amazing views of the Himalaya, including Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga and the Tibetan valleys. Upon arrival at Gonggar Airport or train station, meet our Tibetan guide who will escort to Lhasa. After 1.5 hours scenic drive along the Brahmaputra River and Lhasa River finally reach wonder city, Lhasa. If going Lhasa by train, it takes around 20 minutes’ drive to reach the hotel in Lhasa city. Check into hotel. Take it easy today and have a good rest to acclimatize the high altitude. Overnight in Lhasa. Day 2: Lhasa City sightseeing, visit Potola Palace & Jokhang Temple After breakfast, have an easy visit to Potala Palace- highest palace in the world and is Lhasa’s cardinal landmark which offers an awesome view of entire city. It is the ideal example of architectural work and is mostly renowned as residence of the Dalai Lama lineages. After then visit Jokhang Monastery and Barkhor Market- Jokhang Monastery is the most revered and sacred shrine in all of Tibet and is constantly bustling with devotees. Barkhor Market is a very ancient round street surrounding the Jokhang Monastery and is a good place to purchase souvenirs. Overnight at Lhasa. Day 3: Lhasa City sightseeing, visit Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery & Norbulingka Summer Palace Today tour begins with a visit to Drepung Monastery- the largest monastery among the great three Gelugpa university monasteries which was used to be the residence of the Dalai Lamas until the Great Fifth Dalai Lama constructed the Potala Palace. Finally, visit Norbulingka- the summer palace of the Dalai Lama. Overnight in Lhasa. Day 4: Sightseeing in Lhasa (3650 m): Tibet Museum and afternoon free In the morning, visit Tibet Museum. Officially inaugurated in October of 1999, the museum houses a rich collection of prehistoric cultural relics including Buddha statues in different postures, imperial jade seals, gold albums, gifts granted by emperors, colorful Thankas, and various printed Sanskrit and Tibetan scriptures. We can further see variety of folk art such as unique Tibetan handicrafts, costumes, jewelry, and adornments made of gold, silver, and jade, as well as fine Chinese pottery. Despite the collections, the museum holds the museum building complex with its ornamented beams, pillars, lintels, banners and wall hangings exhibit traditional Tibetan architectural styles. At noon, free for shopping. Overnight in Lhasa. Day 5: Lhasa to Gyantse (3,980m) via Yamdrok Lake (4,441m): 265 km, 5 hrs Today, start journey by jeep along the Friendship Highway crossing the Kampala pass [4794m], from where enjoy the fabulous view of Yamdrok Lake which is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet and one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. After then drive westwards over another high pass Karo la pass (5,045 m) from where have a amazing spectacle of Mt. Nyenchen Khangsar Glacier standing proudly at 7252m. The unforgettable view of fan-shaped turquoise water of the lake and Nyenchen Khangsar Glacier is the wonder of day. Passing through beautiful valleys and colourful Tibetan villages arrive in the town of Gyantse houses beautifully landscaped Tibetan Villages. Overnight in Gyantse Day 6: Gyantse to Shigatse (3,900m) via Shalu Monastery: 90 km, 2 hrs After breakfast visit the Gyantse Dzong, Gyantse Kumbum and Palkhor Chod Monastery. Gyantse Dzong- one of the best preserved dzongs in Tibet, situated high above the town of Gyantse on a huge grey brown rock, Gyantse Kumbum- an extraordinary architectural masterpiece with a large gold-domed stupa and its nine levels rise in the manner of a step pyramid made it one of the most distinctive temples in the world. and Palkhor Chode Monastery which houses Sakyapa, Kadampa and Gelugpa sects together and has combined characters of Han, Tibetan and Nepali architecture. After sightseeing drive towards Shigatse the second largest city in Tibet. En-route visit Shalu Monastery which is architecturally distinctive with the perfect combination of Han and Tibet architectural styles. Finally arrive in Shigatse and after exploring the local market visit to the Tashilhunpo Monastery one of the six big monasteries of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism and the home of the Panchen Lama, which is located on the hillside overlooking Shigatse northwest of the town. The main structures found here are the Maitreya Chapel and Kelsang Temple. Overnight in Shigatse. www.blackdiamondexpedition.com [email protected] BLACK DIAMOND EXPEDITION Day 7: Shigatse to New Tingri (Shegar, 4,150m) via Sakya (4,280m): 290 km, 5hrs After breakfast drive towards Shegar (New Tingri). On the way visit Natang Monastery which contains oldest printing house and collection of Tibetan printing blocks and hand-copied Buddhist scriptures. After then drive to Sakya Monastery- one of the largest monasteries in Tibet and is home to the Sakya sect of Buddhism. It contains thousands of statues, paintings, murals, stupas, mandalas, and other holy objects, as well as libraries of scriptures in Tibetan, Chinese, Mongolian, and Sanskrit piled from floor to ceiling. Then drive along the Friendship passing small town of Lhatse and Gyamtso La pass at 5220m enjoying the view of spectacular Himalayan ranges from Mt. Makalu to Mt. Shishapama. Finally reach Shegar in the evening. Overnight in Shegar. Day 8: Tingri to Rongbuk Monastery (4,900m) and visit Everest Base Camp (5,150m), 100 km, 3 - 4 hrs Early morning drive towards Rongbuk crossing Pang La pass (5150m/16890ft). Enjoy the majestic view of snow capped peaks throughout the drive. Climbing up and down through numbers of switchback bends lead to the dry valley of Tashi Zom and then to the Rongbuk. It is the highest monastery in Tibet and consist both monks and nuns, it is a good point to see Mt.Everest. Enjoy the marvelous, unique and face to face view of Mt. Everest with the famous Rongbuk Glacier (one of the largest glaciers) nearby, which would be definitely the great lifetime experience. After then drive 16 km round trip by local bus to the Everest Base Camp or can do trekking from the Tent guesthouses community to Everest Base Camp, which will take about 2 hours (6km). The dream of travel enthusiasts comes true while reached in a truly awe-inspiring place with the sheer north face of the highest mountain in the world towering to the sky. In the evening drive back to Rongbuk and overnight. Day 9: Rongbuk to Old Tingri (4,250m) to Zhangmu (2,250m), 280 km, 6-7 hrs Morning enjoy the sunrise view over Mt. Everest (if weather is clear). After breakfast drive towards Zhangmu via Old Tingri & Nyalam, crossing Thongla [5300m] pass, savoring the enchanting views of the surrounding peaks of Shishapangma, Cho Oyu, Menlungtse and Gauri Shankar. The road driving over the pass of Tongla is surrounded by the snow-capped peaks and it is like a road to the sky. Overnight at Zhangmu. Day 10: Zhangmu to Kodari (Nepal Boarder) to Kathmandu, 122km, 5hrs After breakfast clear the customs and cross the Friendship Bridge at the Nepal-China border across Bhote Koshi River.
